Living in the Netherlands, I don't find myself at McDonald's very often, especially for breakfast. But on a recent morning heading out toward the tulip fields near Lisse, we decided to stop in and give it a try. This location was clean, well maintained, and surprisingly relaxing for a quick breakfast stop. The staff were friendly, service was efficient, and as is common throughout the Netherlands, everyone we interacted with spoke excellent English. The coffee was better than I expected, and our breakfast sandwiches were exactly what you want from McDonald's: hot, fresh, and familiar. There's something comforting about knowing an Egg McMuffin tastes pretty much the same whether you're in California, Canada, or the Dutch countryside. Was it a life-changing culinary experience? Of course not. But for a quick breakfast before a day of tulip viewing, it hit the spot. Clean restaurant, good coffee, friendly staff, and an easy stop before exploring one of the most beautiful parts of the Netherlands. A solid choice if you're in the area and looking for a dependable breakfast or coffee before hitting the road.

First of all, McDonald's in Holland/Netherlands are different. If you didn't see the arches sign, you'd probably not know that they were McD restaurants. They're brown, wood-looking. This particular one was off the main road and you had to drive down a road that had different stores on it to get to the place. How to get there is not really evident until you pay closer attention. First of all the coffee was really tasty. Actually I thik it was Segafredda brand, which is good although I do like McD's brand back in the USA. We ordered a couple of Egg McMuffins although I was also tempted to have the pancakes. The place had the typical breakfast menu. And one thing abaout McD's, the food pretty much tastes the same whichever restaurant you go to - if you're lucky. Nice clean place and a smiling staff and like most places in Holland, the staff speaks English.

Good thing I ate it because it was actually some of the better coleslaw I've had in Amsterdam. In other restaurants in Amsterdam when several people in the party order fries frequently the fries are combined into one large serving. I really don't care for this but oh well. The place has a great atmosphere, fun and lively. It got very busy while I was there and the busier it got the louder the music got. The service was friendly and actually quite good considering how busy they were. In addition I ordered the fried chicken on the menu for take away. They appear to be fillets of chicken battered and deep fried. Nothing special though it seems they have some spice to them. Still I had to try them. I'll have to go back for another go round because I wanted to also try their milk shakes.

I ordered my food, paid for it and proceeded to head to the bathroom to wash my hands before eating. The bathroom attendant thought he was the potty police as he tried to deny me entrance after I showed him my paid receipt for food. He still wanted me to pay as if I had not ordered anything. I pretty much ignored him and went on in where I encountered a man (co-ed facility) who would not stop drinking water from the sink that I need to wash my hands in. Once he moved on, I washed my hands and exited as quickly as I entered. McDonalds is nothing special in the US and definitely in the Netherlands it is the same. Skip it for some authentic Dutch fast food.

They've got a nice inventive burger menu plus a big menu of optional toppings and sides. The place itself is not super cozy to sit in, just a few tables (including two long ones for sharing), all rather uncomfortable. But the service is friendly and fast, and the food is good! Surprisingly, the croquette was hot, as if it had just been cooked and served. The creamy filling was delicious, and the breadcrumb coating was very crunchy. It was really good! I wish we had this type of vending machine in our hometown. It was a unique experience, and I would love to go back and try different items.
