It seems that every street in London advertises that they have the world's best hamburgers or pancakes. Well, tonight we tested out this aggressive statement to see if it was true or just a marketing scheme. The front of the Burger Bar was illuminated in big red bold letters and the giant wedge fries were proudly positioned in the window for customers to salivate over. We pondered the wall menu for a bit then ordered the Classic Burger with fries and a soft drink combo. The chef tossed a big beef patty onto the flat grill and waited at a wooden table out front impatiantly about fifteen minutes. OMG, it was big, juicy and spiced perfectly with bacon and caramelized onions (see pic). The oversized seasoned fries went well with the burger. I'm hoping that every burger joint in Amsterdam will be as tasty as this great find today. read more

My husband and I stopped here our first night in Amsterdam and the burgers were some of the best we've ever had. We've both lived in NYC, the Bay Area and now Portland, OR, all of which are excellent food cities. We've eaten some delicious burgers and the burgers from Burger Bar are at the top of the list. The fries were excellent too, and come with a choice of a variety of homemade sauces. It's a very small place, with just a few tiny tables for two and some seats at the bar. Probably one of the top 5 Burgers I've ever had in my entire life! I ordered a 200 Angus beef with over easy "no flip" fried egg. With cheese. Wow! The taste of fresh meat seasoned to perfection. I got the sticky jalapeño fries well done. And it was the perfect combo. I had to come back for more the next day, but unfortunately they did not have sticky fries the next day. I was impressed with the number of times I saw them changing gloves out. The angus burger was very good. Next time I will try the waygu. Burger bar Wow, what a delicious fresh cooked burger. Expectations were low because this place is located in a very touristy part of the city but inside it was very crowded. There are about 10 bar style seats and 2 tables outside. It was rainy so everyone was crowded inside. Our orders were taken by a quite friendly girl. There was another girl who was doing the cooking. No bathrooms, just countertop dining. Food takes about 10 minutes to cook because your burger is not formed until it is ordered. Literally, the girl reached into the cooler and grabbed a hunk of fresh beef. She mashes it into a formed metal ring and swirls it around for a few times to make it patty shapped and then onto the grill it goes. You can see your burger being cooked from start to finish. The girl that takes the order assembles the plate with the bun and the fries or whatever you order. Efficiency at its best and an incredible tasting meal. The fries were good but not very hot. I was on an 18 hour stopover in transit to Vienna back in mid-August 2017. When I was here in November 2016, I tried the Burger Bar on Reguliersbreestraat with the light rail outer shop. That was a solid 4.5 experience because I ordered the burger loaded and ate at the counter. This time around at this location, I ordered a basic burger with fries to go since the Kimpton De Witt hotel was right around the corner. This is in an alley by some noodles/wok to-go places like the ones you find on Cranbourn St. (SOHO) in London. The burger was decent along the fries but not as great as the time I had it in 2016. It was more a 3.5 experience but I did find the customers order at 3AM after the coffee shops quite amusing. I love this city and hope to return soon. read more

The best damn burger and fries I have ever had. They make all their burgers fresh and you will wait for about 10 minutes. But the burger is sooo worth the wait. They double fry their fries and they are utterly perfect. You can order various sauces to dip your fries (we got the samurai and garlic). The garlic was powerfully seasoned but not overwhelming. The samurai had a slight spice to it (but I ultimately liked the garlic better). The smallest burger is 200g (and they weigh all their burgers on an electric scale), so you should not leave hungry. I went out of my way to visit Burger Bar, and was surprised and disappointed that my experience diverged so much from other Yelpers' praise. I don't eat beef, but they have chicken and mushroom sandwiches, as well, so I opted for the chicken. Some initial impressions while waiting for my order; it was disheartening to see a whole trough of electric yellow fries behind the counter, waiting to be re-warmed (or refried?). I know that this is probably how it's often done in the fast casual restaurant biz, but it was a bit of a buzzkill to see the massive heap of cold potatoes just hanging out like that. How fresh can they really be? Also, as others have noted, they charge extra for a small cup of ketchup, which is just plain inhospitable and chintzy in a burger joint. Given that this is a fast food place, I was surprised at how long my chicken burger took to come out--around 20 minutes, even without many other customers in the restaurant. Upon finally tucking in, I found the chicken to be improperly trimmed--extremely fatty and chewy, with lots of inedible connective tissue. Tourist trap. My 11 year old son found this place before we got to Amsterdam and it was his top priority to visit based on Yelp's reviews. He ordered a build your own Wagyu burger with cheese and bacon. When he got his burger it had letters, tomato, pickle and was covered in sauce. When he complained that this is not what he ordered he was told that this is what he ordered and there is nothing they can do. They refused to remake it and were just plain rude. The receipt that we got clearly said bacon and cheese and nothing else. Only after I made a scene with other customers watching they gave us a refund. Man oh man. I've been to another Burger Bar location (I think in De Pijp) and while it's spacious, the burgers were not the same as the one at this location. So yes, in the case of Burger Bar, location matters. This is a hole in the wall (but I heard they have seating downstairs?!). I was in Amsterdam a couple weeks ago with my sister, visiting from NYC (we love Amsterdam + we love burgers), and ended up at Burger Bar for dinner...obvi. It was SO. GOOD. Again, like Burgerlijk, one of the best burgers I've had everrrr. Juicy + cooked to perfection. I think about this burger once a week easily. I got the 200g Irish beef patty (my favorite kind + 100% satiating) with caramelized onions and cheddar cheese and it was BANGIN'. Fries + mayo...also hit the spot. So into all of it.
