First meal in Amsterdam went to Burger Bar, and it was quite good. We were actually kind of forced to eat here due to a lack of other options, as it was quite late by the time we checked in to our hotel and finished enjoying a couple drinks at a nearby bar. That being said, Burger Bar far exceeded expectations for a late night meal. I'm very glad it was open. I don't know if it was because I was starving or what, but I'd put this as one of my Top 5 burgers of all time. I ordered a plain burger with ketchup and was blown away by the meat quality. Cooked to perfection, my burger came out big, juicy, and flavorful. It more than satisfied my hunger, and gave me plenty of energy to charge into the night. If in the area, definitely give Burger Bar a try. It will not disappoint!

Great food! Just a great all around burger! The onion rings were equally delicious, although we did have to send them back because they weren't fried crispy enough. Kinda think they may like them that way. They were just darker than blonde and were very concerned that they were being overlooked hahaha "uhhhhh could you please leave them in the grease a tab bit more" Sooo, do you know that feeling you have when you go to a burger place and you have to build your burger and when you finish the burger is like a million dollars and they just put a dab of condiments on the burger....take a look at the Slice of blue cheese, it was easily a 1/4" thick! That's the way you should add on a topping!!!

I think they mean venison.. It's like saying "cow burger" :P

If I am in the city and I want a burger and Hard Rock Cafe is either packed or too far away and I'm on a time limit, this would be where I'd go! The burgers are good and handmade. Nothing wrong with them at all. A whole different class from the chemical crap mcdonalds or bk dishes out. Don't do that to yourself and just go to the Burger-Bar. The execution of making the burger and fries is very good. I Just miss that popping flavor and certain coherence of certain ingredients that just comes together in gloriously greasy harmony like at the HRC. Is this place my first choice for burgers? As a burger whore, no. Is it my last? Definitely no! This place is indeed A-OK!

Dutch Burger Discovery.... I would like to say I did lots of research and hunted this place out before my trip to Amsterdam, but instead I am going to be honest and admit I stumbled on it totally by accident. I was in "the Dam" for work and was wandering about on my own looking for somewhere decent to eat. I spotted the burger sign and the cool set up inside and decided to give it a go. It is a pay in advance place, so you get your menu at your table, pick what you want and then go up and pay at the counter. Very quickly afterwards they bring out your food which you have been able to watch getting prepared as the kitchen is completely open plan. I went for the mid-range burger which is the large Black Angus with fries and some Mayo on the side...... and a pint of Heinieken on the side of that. I had been traveling that day so this meal was exactly what I needed, the food was brilliant. I loved my burger and I managed to get a seat at the window, which meant I could spend my time watching the world go by. There are 3 standards of burger, so it has something for every budget. If you want to go all out and pay a bit more you can have the Wagyu beef, but I didn't and the burger was still great. I highly recommend this place - but as a tip it is just a burger bar, there is no frills about it, but it is cool and provides exactly what it should. I am going back to Amsterdam this summer and will definitely be returning for some lunch or dinner.

Great place for a casual and quick meal that is also delicious. I got the chicken hot dog with cheese and onions and my husband had a grilled chicken burger with mushrooms and cheese. We had an order of French fries to share and it was more than enough food for us. The service was great and the staff was friendly. We walked by this place a couple of times on our vacation but didn't get to eat her until our third time walking by because it was difficult to find a place to sit. However, it was one of our favorite lunches here just because it was simply delicious! The different dipping sauces give this burger place a unique touch-we weren't shy and ordered up a storm of sauces!

I don't give out full-blown burger accolades often, but the Wagyu beef burger is a thing of absolute beauty. You know you're in the right place when you see them place the fresh, ground meat on a scale that displays the weight up on the wall menu. Lightly packed and a mouthwatering medium rare, this burger hits all the right notes. No cheese is necessary; the default lettuce, tomato, pickle and house sauce are all you need. The bun is toasted and adds a nice bit of char to an already well charred piece of meat. Yes, it's €9.95 for 200 grams, but it's worth every single cent. If you're not willing to part with that many Euros for a burger there are cheaper options, but why order anything other than perfection?

A vegetarian rating a place with the name of Burger-Bar is always going to raise some suspicions. After all, it's next to impossible to get a vegetarian burger right, and frankly, Burger-Bar doesn't even try to do that. But, instead of the staple bean or potato veggie burger, they have a large portobello mushroom as their patty. With the right toppings, you can, generally, achieve the same level of culinary delight as the meaty version of the international dish called a burger. The fries, they are magical. Do not get your burger without a serving of their house fries. Not the best in Amsterdam, but definitely not to be missed. Burger-Bar is open until very late, and what better food to eat when you're drunk and happy than a greasy burger? The sanitation is top notch, and they even have a sink for you to wash your hands before and after getting into your meal. The seating is quite nice, and even groups can enjoy. Of course, since it's in a busy area, be vary of the suspicious crowd around you, although nothing untoward has ever happened to me, personally. Oh, and try the wheat bun!

At this point in my Europe trip, I was tired of eating at sit down restaurants for every meal. I was just walking around the Kalverstraat area by myself one day and just wanted a place to grab a quick bite. I passed by Burger Bar and from the outside it looked pretty packed, so it must've been pretty good. It's more of the fast casual style place where you order at the counter and then just grab a seat and they'll bring your food when it's ready. The place isn't that big, so all the tables were already full. Since I was by myself I just decided to get my order to go, but they actually did have 3 or 4 stools up front right next to the cash register where I could've easily eaten solo. It was super close to Rembrandtplein square so I just ended up eating outside on a bench. Food: The menu was pretty straightforward. You your meat blend for your burger (irish beef, black angus, wagyu beef, or chicken), then your toppings, and finally dipping sauces for your fries. I'm not used to this level of customization, so it's awesome you can build the exact burger that you want. Obviously I ended up just getting an Irish beef burger with bacon and then fries with garlic sauce (which I definitely put on the burger too). If I saw the fried egg option when I was ordering I would've definitely threw that on there too. The burger was pretty tasty, definitely better than fast food quality. It's probably similar to the in between burger chains like Five Guys and Smashburger. The bacon was nice and crisp and had a good amount of fat to it. The fries were similar to frites in Belgium with a thicker cut and just a slight crispness on the outside. While I thought it could've had a stronger garlic flavor, the garlic sauce was creamy and added a nice extra flavor boost to the burger and fries. Overall, Burger Bar is a nice fast casual spot where you can get in and out quickly while eating a quality burger for around 10EU.

Probably the best burger I've had. Tried wagyu beef for the first time and it's everything people say it is. Juicy and a true melt in mouth sensation. Make sure you stop by if you're in town.

Irish beef with old Amsterdam cheese and bacon
    Emily B.

A really nice burger, much better quality than you would expect from a burger bar. By no means the best burger I've had but it was a great lunch choice after wandering around the city. You can essentially build your own burger through choosing your meat, cheese and toppings. I went for Irish beef, Old Amsterdam cheese, and grilled bacon. Perhaps if I'd sprung for the Wagyu beef (€11.45 for a 200 gram patty) I would have had the best burger experience of my life. However it was a very nice burger, well cooked and very meaty, and not so overloaded with toppings that you can't taste any individual elements. I wasn't very impressed with the fries, mostly because they just weren't the skinny crispy salty things I was expecting, but I guess the Dutch do love their fat chips. I also wasn't hugely impressed at having to pay extra for some mayonnaise. If the chips had been better and if there had been some more interesting soft drink choices it might have been 5 stars but it's a 4. I did really enjoy it here though and I'd recommend it as a pit stop when exploring Amsterdam!

I ended a little bit disappointed after reading some great reviews here on Yelp. I know I'm a hard judge when reviewing burger joints but even though the patty was really good all the rest was mediocre at best. Cheese on the burger and the fries were forgettable and quite bad by dutch standards. Also, the bread was awful.

A late night burger craving is about to be satisfied!

This place is incredible. Perfectly cooked luxury burgers at a price that beats anything - I don't understand how Burger King next door is still in business! Interiors are nice but not too stylish. Tables are very sturdy and there's huge vases with flowers on the tables (!). Staff is super friendly, and open hours are very generous - this makes sense because I imagine the central address (close to many pubs around Rembrandtplein) makes it the go-to place for late-night comfort food binge visits.

    Burger time!

Busy lunch hours seemed to be dropping off around 13:30, about when I was there. It's possible there's an upstairs, but it was roped off on my visit. I decided to go with a unique combination, an unconventional choice, with the "Silence of the Lambs" burger, a patty made out of lamb, topped with goats cheese and sautéed onion. There was just one guy manning the register, and one lady cooking in the back. The first bite was divine, but towards the end I found it to mellow out to a rather neutral impression. I'd like to have tried a beef burger, and was contemplating the Dragon, but when in Ams. Worth a try, if convenient to do so.

We realized this just be the difference between American beef and grass fed Dutch beef! And the potatoes were to die for! I do not typically like roasted potatoes, but these were perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked so they were slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The service was spot on! As soon as other patrons finished their meal, the staff called us in from outside to come and take our seats. Minutes later, our meal was delivered! Shredded lettuce would have been better. The problem was the hockey puck burger sat high in the middle of the bun. When you bite into it, you get a mouthful of bun, and the hockey puck gushes out the side. If you bite into the hockey puck the rest of the ingredients gush out the side and down your hand, and you're left with disintegrated stale bun pieces. Sweet potato fries were ok, and the truffle sauce sent it over the top. But honestly, it's middle of the road in Southern California Burger Land.
