Stopped by The Grind House on my way through from Bar Harbor to Boston Logan International…read more I was excited to see an impossible breakfast sandwich on the menu as well as a peanut butter mocha. Seriously, two of my favorite things to see on a coffee house menu. That said the execution was a bit off for me. The Impossible breakfast sandwich was served on an insubstantial bun (the type that is more air than anything) and was overall pretty basic. Their signature sauce mentioned in several dishes, seems to be thousand island or maybe tartar sauce? Either way, it wasn't my favorite. The peanut butter mocha was also a bit of a miss for me. I wasn't a fan of either their chocolate or their espresso (or the peanut butter flavor they used, for that matter). The shop itself is quirky and comfortable. We were able to get a spot by the windows, which was nice and the service was lovely. It would definitely be a good and comfortable spot for working and it could be that had I ordered differently, it may have been more my cup of tea (or coffee, as they case may be). But for what I ordered, it was a bit of a swing and a miss.

I chose a egg and cheese on a croissant bun and a caramel turtle latte. I came here because it had been highly recommended, but I have to say, I expected more, but depends on what you like, right?? Plenty of seating, centrally located in the city, easy parking, and plenty of coffee concoctions to try out. My coffee was missing the whipped cream, but oh well. The froth for the latte was odd, it deflated super quickly, not sure what happened there. And the sweetness was sweet, but it was missing that caramel turtle flavor I thought I was going to get. For me, this was meh. I expected something more decadent. My egg sandwich was good. Basic. Not a real croissant either. It was a croissant bun of some sort. It seemed, well, basic, or economical. But it was filling and the egg was good. I also have to say that when I departed, I smelled like a convenience store that sells those hotdogs on rollers... I smelled all day, I had to wash my hair to get the smell out. I also have to mention the heavy music that was playing. It was obscene and it was loud. So loud it made it challenging to order and I did eat my meal quickly and leave. It was a Tuesday morning around 9 am. But hey I am getting older so this may not have been a good choice for me.

It was crispy, perfectly sized pieces, very flavorful (I think it was teriyaki) and the portion was generous. We had the pizza special of the day (elote) with vegan cheese and it was decent. The breaded cauliflower app would have been better with some salt/flavoring in the breading and the brussel sprouts had great flavor and texture but they burnt them a bit and it took away from making them a 10/10. The environment was a little loud but the view of the river was nice and the server was pleasant even if a little busy and absent at times.

Maybe that's because of the duck fat? The strawberry margarita was great except for the rim, I ordered a sugar rim and the rim tasted fully of citric acid, and personally I don't like citric acid with my margs. The screwdriver was okay, it's a screwdriver for sure. The blackberry martini was delicious and went down really smoothly. It's pretty expensive too, over $100 for two entrees and three drinks. Decent spot.

The temperature in the dining room was about the same and despite a large number of customers wearing their coats at the tables, the staff did nothing to remedy the situation. The place was clean and cute, dog-themed and decorated for Halloween, and the menu is basically all burgers, salads and sandwiches. We split a classic naan breadsticks, which turned out to be a naan flatbread pizza that tasted and looked like a crappy frozen pizza from a gas station. We also shared a classic cheeseburger that was pretty good; definitely above average and comparable in taste and size to Smashburger. The men's room was clean, service was okay, and that's about it. Prices were comparable to other places in the area, but given the uncomfortable HVAC, waitress upsell, and lousy, inauthentic naan we won't be going back.

It is a narrow space, but it seemed like a larger one. The food was excellent. I got a gouda burger and ended up taking half of it home. The app filled me up--four nice sized egg rolls stuffed with reuben ingredients. Yummy! The only sticking point I had was the unfriendly service. When I thank a person for every little thing they do, I kind of expect at least a smile. Not happening. Perhaps if I had bought alcohol it would have been friendlier? That kind of is off-putting. Nonetheless, great food.

We started with brussel sprouts, which were very tasty, just a bit salty. I usually get the salmon or halibut-I went for pan seared scallops. Excellent choice! I do not use a lot of salt at home, so again, a bit salty. My friends enjoyed the fish tacos and grilled shrimp. More fish on the tacos and a little less salt would have made this a five star review. Overall, still my favorite spot. The bar, the restaurant, the dragonfly decor -- nothing but love! Maybe I'll secure the old bank vault room when I graduate with my Master's degree in May 2025.
