Let's start out with the positive, which was almost all of it. The food is excellent! My Old Hickory burger was a generous size, so the $10 cost didn't seem outrageous. There was a nice thick strip of bacon, not some paper thin sliver, and the BBQ sauce was good. My husband and I skipped the combos in favor of ordering a side of fried mushrooms, and they are hands down, the best I have had in years. Perfectly golden and crisp on the outside, soft and mushroomy on the inside, and not greasy at all! We were a large party (8 people) and all our food came out together, fresh and hot, not easy to do. Not one person had a complaint about the food. The restaurant itself is cute with a retro 50's diner vibe. My only negative experience was my observation on one of the servers. Another table was notably rude to her for what appeared to be no reason, however, her F-bomb comments to the cashier as she walked back into the kitchen were not something the rest of the customers should have had to hear. I'm an adult, I've certainly heard it before, but there were some younger kids dining, and I felt it was really inappropriate. I have come here twice now. The first time ordered the Award Texas Monthly with onion rings. The second time I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak with fries. Both were very good. I look forward to trying more delicious items from their menu. Each time I wanted to try a dessert but did not leave room. I'll have to come again just to have a banana split next time! Burger Fresh was named as having the 13th best burger in Texas (2009)....at least according to Texas Monthly. I've been a few times ever since they first opened, but it's usually so long in between each time, I forget each time why I tell myself to never come back. They are currently running a December special which is the 1/3lb version of the signature Texas Monthly burger combo for $10.99. Basically, they can get pricy when you start adding on things. The burgers are decent, but they are pre-formed Angus patties. Maybe fresh beef, but still pre-formed and taste like several other burger places in the Houston area. For my money, I'd rather have hand-formed burgers, they just have a different taste, texture and I love patties that fall apart when eating them, that's a good sign! I asked for my burger medium - medium rare and the lady at the counter was very hesitant about catering to my request. This happens frequently in small towns since they prefer to cook burgers well done. The onion rings are homemade and decent, but you will need to add your own salt as they come pretty much unseasoned. To summarize, if you're a burger connesieur you can do yourself a favor and skip this one. I kept telling myself the whole time during my latest visit that I'd rather be at Fuddruckers. read more

On yelp, my to go place for looking at restaurants, checking out pictures of the food and reading reviews, I came across Burger Fresh and More. So glad we went. The onion rings shown in the pics were just as they showed, large and crispy. The burger looked delicious and I assure you it was. I should have ordered the double burger and cheese but because the wife and I were grilling steak tonight I thought smaller would be better this time. Burger Fresh was ranked #13 in the state of Texas by Texas Monthly magazine, and we'd been meaning to check them out and see how they live up to the hype. So on a recent voyage to Conroe, we stopped in. Burger Fresh is easy to find. It's located in a strip center a couple of blocks off I-45, right in the heart of town. Immediately you can tell that this isn't part of a big chain; the front of the store has a funky style all its own. Upon entering the store, we were immediately met by the rich aroma of fried beef - not an unwelcome scent in a hamburger joint. Looking around the medium-sized dining room, we saw a space filled with folks of all ages and from all walks of life devouring burgers. Our kind of place. Looking at the counter, we were overwhelmed by the huge variety of menu options. Burgers of all kinds, from a half pound all the way up to an insane triple of half-pound patties. Yes, if you're so inclined, you can order a burger with a pound and a half of beef. We weren't so inclined. They also offer a wide range of exotic meats, including alligator and ostrich. Thanks, Crocodile Hunter, but we're hear for a cheeseburger, and that requires beef. We decided on a #5 burger: A half pound of certified Angus beef with a single half-pound patty, double American cheese, and bacon. It was offered in a basket with sides, and the friendly counterman recommended the onion rings. We grabbed a table, and waited for our order to come out. After about five minutes, a soft-spoken waitress brought us our burger. What appeared was a nicely griddled half-pound patty, which was unfortunately machine formed. The American cheese was moderately melty, and the bacon atop was good quality, but very mild in flavor. The egg bun wasn't griddled in any way. It was a prime example of a pretty good traditional burger. We enjoyed the burger, but weren't blown away. The hamburger patty was dry and overcooked; all of the ooze present came from the cheese. And the bacon, while considerably higher quality than you'd find at any of the large fast food chains, wasn't as flavorful as we would have liked. We'd rate the burger in the "Better Burger" category - better than the best offerings at conventional fast food chains, similar to what you'd get at the Five Guys chain. But it doesn't approach the rich flavor found at the best chains, like Beck's Prime or SmashBurger. What did impress us were the handmade onion rings. Large, sweet onion slices, hand breaded and deep fried in a crispy, flaky batter. Not greasy at all, and very tasty. Some of the best onion rings we can remember trying. All in all, we can easily recommend Burger Fresh. A good burger (with an amazing variety of options) and outstanding onion rings make for an enjoyable lunch in Conroe. We'll be back. read more

My wife and I checked out and tried Burger Fresh for the first time today. We got there around 1 PM. (It was a Friday.) The place was not crowded but they had a steady flow of customers for both sit in and take out orders. The place is very clean and the size of the place is not small but also not super large. There were plenty of tables available and they also have a fairly large attached over-flow room when needed. It's kind of a 50s place. We both ordered the standard burger with fries and a soft drink. (They also serve a variety of burgers, hot dogs, Philly sandwich plus much more. They also have a large dairy fair too such as ice cream and shakes.) We both thought the burger was really good and my wife said she loved the french fries. Two gals took turns behind the order counter and I found the one waiting on us very friendly. The food was delivered by a backroom person and was brought to us in a very short period of time. Everything we encountered during our visit was a plus. Nothing negative to say. Good- They have a wide selection of delicious burgers, milkshakes, and awesome onion rings! We knew we had made a good choice because it was packed with people. The one in Conroe is conveniently located close to I45 on Gladstell. It's perfect for families and casual dinners with friends. Bad- Only one bathroom for women this could be kind tricky when it's super busy because it wasn't that clean. We were enjoying - really enjoying - the cooked-to-order 1/3-pound burgers here. About four months ago, while my dad was staying in a nearby physical therapy rehab facility, we were getting them once or twice a week. We went back today, and I'm guessing they've made more changes than just painting the walls. Anyway, the employee at the counter said to expect the burgers to be well done; that they try to cook them all well done; that they are not able to cook burgers to order, (in terms of rare, medium rare, medium, etc.) At that point, we decided to eat lunch elsewhere, so I'm not even sure if they still offer a 1/3-pound burger, (though I hope not - what's the point of serving a burger larger than a 1/4-pound if it is going to be cooked well done). In my circle of friends and family, I am aware of only one person (a cousin of mine) who orders a burger well-done. That sounded like a low percentage, so a quick web search turned up a poll that 36% of Americans order their burgers well done. So, my apologies (for my one-star review) to those of you who enjoy their burgers cooked well-done, but my rating seems to represent the rest of us who would prefer a different choice. read more

They have gone through a few owners in the last year and it has progressively gone down hill and the prices are climbing up hill. We ordered 3 burger meals and our total was $50...OUTRAGEOUS. ordered the mushroom swiss burger on the sourdough bun first burger came out well, piping hot, cheese oozing out, first bite was delicious!...then i found a long black hair cooked into the cheese... no big deal second burger came out quickly, the staff politely made me a new one after i brought the first to their attention... except it didn't have the correct bun on the burger and tasted bland, like it hadnt gotten seasoned. maybe the hair in the first one spiced it up because the second burger was sub par...however the staff is courteous, and the fries were perfect. ill probably come back for fries, not a burger. read more
