The special Fush n' Chups burger.
James W.

I've been to the burger burger in ponsonby a couple of times & I have to say they make a tasty burger. So I had to see if the Newmarket one was just as good. Well there are definitely more seats. So that was already a positive. The only gripe I will have is that there is no clear management structure. I walked in looked for a seat (which there were plenty of) but couldn't find someone willing to seat me. I basically had to seat myself.... I can manage. That isn't dire straights. Food. Probably the single most important part. The sole reason for getting fours stars. I had the special. I always check out the specials & they never fail to be amazing. This was no exception. The Fush n' Chup burger. It had the deep fried fish, the fries with tomato sauce, a little lettuce slaw & some vinegary pickle. The balance of flavours was epic. Also I had the potato skins. They are spritzed with truffle oil & served with aioli. There needed to be another dimension to this. Truffle is pungent but also soft & round, as much as it is earthy. Aioli is also full of the same aromas. It leaves a coating on the roof of the mouth that is hard to contend with. Maybe a truffle salt or a vinegary note might cut against the competing richness. Also don't bother getting a thickshake, it has the same consistency & thickness as the regular shake. Still super yummy.... But you'll save yourself a dollar.

Spectacular burgers!!! Came here for dinner with some friends and had a delicious burger and tasty fries. Liked it so much, I came back again! Great, fun restaurant atmosphere, a place you can have a nice dinner at or hangout. Prices are also quite affordable for a gourmet burger. After we were seated our orders were quickly taken and a short wait later our food came out. The burgers are well cooked, taste great (grass fed meat), and are definitely worth a try. Definitely a contender for best burger in Auckland!

Inside the Beef Burger

I really enjoyed coming here for lunch one weekday, we arrived just before twelve and the restaurant was quite empty, but there was plenty of staff around and we got a table really quickly. Having not been here before it was really nice for the staff to take us through the menu and specials and explain a few things that they do differently to other burger joints. We ordered two burgers and two sides. The special of the week was a Marty McFly (great name) which had chicken, bacon, cheese, lettuce and dressings. It looked amazing and HUGE. The other burger was their beef burger ordered as it comes - which is medium rare, with no extras like cheese or bacon. Not realising how big the sides of fries were we ordered some shoestring potatos and kumara chips to share - don't do this unless you are a hungry beast! The servings of both of these are massive, delicious and come with a big blob of aioli which is great to see as normally you get quite a small amount for lots of chips. Everything tasted fresh and was full of flavour. I also ordered a house made honey cola which was really delicious - highly recommend this as the flavour was amazing! Can't wait to come back and try their broccoli, thickshakes and to see what types of special burgers they have!

EAT THE CHICKEN BURGER- you won't regret it

5 star burger! If there was a 6th star, this burger joint would deserve it. I ordered the chicken and I was not disappointed. Cajun grilled chicken thigh, red pepper, tomato jam, aged cheddar and aioli paired perfectly together on a delicious bun. This burger turned to sloppy joe and I had now qualms with licking the juice off from running down my arms. The peanut butter and chocolate shake was another delicious treat this place had to offer. Served in a cute old fashioned milk jar with extra chocolate and crushed peanuts on top! I will definitely be returning to try the beef burger and potato wedges on my next trip!

The Big Mat - burger special from Burger Burger

I had been to Burger Burger in Ponsonby Central and had been thoroughly impressed with the food and the service, though the wait for a table was always a little long. When I heard they'd opened a much larger restaurant in Newmarket I was very keen to go. As expected the burgers were spectacular and delicious, and the truffle oil potato skins are to die for. I also got to taste the charred broccoli side (if you enjoy partaking in vegetables these were a real hit out our table) and the peanut butter thick shake was a thing made from heaven. The size and ambiance of the restaurant is also great, with neon signs and the same chilled out feeling you get from the Pomsonby restaurant, with just a lot more room. I was also disaapointed there was no room in my stomach for a custom ice cream sandwich dessert. My only complaint and the reason I am giving it 4/5 stars is the service was pretty horrendous. When we arrived there were at least four staff just standing and loitering out the front, and we had to ask for service twice before someone even came to see us to give us water. Not sure how long it's been open so perhaps it's just teething problems and the staff working out which area of the restaurant they were responsible for. Once they remembered we existed (even after being reminded twice) the service was good and swift and friendly.

Shoestring fries!

I would highly recommend coming here for a cheap & cheerful dinner especially if you are after a delicious burger & a wine/bubbles/beer. Everything is made from fresh local produce daily & is ethically sourced when possible. They also do a range of desserts including an ice cream bar ! I would never go past a good burger & some sides this is your place !!!

During the week I generally eat pretty healthy , but come the weekend this is thrown out the window and my old friend junk comes to play . These burgers are far from junk though , and I wouldn't compare these burgers to some other generic burgers we all may be familiar with . The pillowy soft buns , the juiciness of the beef pattie and the mustard , mayo and gherkins all melded together to create one of the best burgers I've ever tasted . The waiter asked if I wanted the beef patty cooked medium rare and this is a first for me as your quite often told this isn't "food safe " but caution to wind and I said yes , I'm glad I did as it made it soo much juicer ! I also ordered a side of the charred broccoli with garlic and almonds and a Negroni cocktail . I left feeling pleasantly saited without that food coma feeling that some other burgers might give you . With its Snappy service , great background tunes Burger Burger is onto a winner . The server checked that I was happy with my order and drink which I really liked . Lots of families on the day I was there and from what I saw with the kids meal it looked like a good size burger for little hands . I'm already planning ways to come back .

Much bigger space here than at the Ponsonby one. And, more importantly, there's a dessert bar for icecream sundaes and cookie sandwiches. With Little & Friday cookies and Kohu Road icecream, you are spoilt for choice. Desserts aside, the menu offers lots of burger choices and a bunch of sides so you don't forget your veggies. Think we may have ordered almost all of them. The carrots, broccoli, cabbage with bacon, kumara fries and potato skins. All were really good, even the humble carrot held it's own. I like the cool vibe here, a great place to meet friends. With attentive service and good food, I'm making plans for a revisit soon. Maybe to try the thick shakes, they look amazing.

Melting moment

If you can't get a seat at Burger Burger's Ponsonby branch, then try their new outpost in Newmarket. You won't regret it. From the efficient text based waiting system to the drinks, food and service, this restaurant gets it just right. A casual atmosphere and the scent of great burgers waft down Osborne lane to greet you as you enter. The menu consists of US staples such as beef, fish and cheeseburgers and specials with a twist. The milkshakes and thick-shakes (especially the chocolate thick-shake) are as good as any that you'd find in New York. Special mention needs to be made about the beautifully soft buns and fries, both of which complement the high quality of the meat. Attention to detail makes Burger Burger what it is. Even if it's not the cheapest burger in town, it just might be the best!

That kiwi nz burger gotta try
David V.

This Kiwi NZ burger is One of the best burgers I ever had due to the grass fed NZ beef, it's perfectly charred served with fresh veggies and ono cheese. Seriously, that New Zealand dairy tho. Gotta step it up America. Not saying that just cuz I'm on vacation. The dairy and beef really is that good. Go catch a plane, it's only 8hrs away from Hawaii, people. Trust. The place is hopping, filled with young adults since the area is around the university and shopping district of new market in Auckland. Very clean, friendly staff and hopping music. Oh and try their charred broccoli, it's so good too!

Ice Cream looks yummy!

Most of the food stands didn't open up for another 20mins, so we wandered around reading all of the menus and deciding what we wanted. The last stand we came across was Burg'z. Whom I believe was the owner said "we are cooking up a beef and a chicken burger for a photo shoot. Would you like them after, since we're just going to toss them?". I already had my eye on this place and free dinner sounded like something we couldn't say no to, so we accepted. We purchased some awesome fries and beers to accompany our meals. Let me say that this review has nothing to do with the fact that our burgers were free. They were fantastic! Large, flavorful, fresh and filling! We shared as we both like chicken and beef and were beyond satisfied. The owner (I think) and his coworker were very sweet and we had the best experience. I wish we had room for the list of amazing milkshakes on their menu, but unfortunately we did not. We thanked them with a gracious tip and went on our way. I'm not sure who was taking photos but my guess is the NZ Urbanlist or something similar on Instagram. Can't wait to see them as I am sure they represent the taste well!

You can build up hype about a eatery quite easily these days through social media and such. But to…read morebuild a reputation of quality requires much more. And when you only sell one item, you better make it the best thing ever to stay around. I have heard about Better burgers through friends, colleagues and everyone was going on about how good the burgers were or how busy it is that they make you wait ages. With much expectation I came over for lunch today. I read all the reviews on yelp about it, some good some really bad. So I wanted to make up my own mind, since they only have essentially one burger on the menu. I chose to order the standard hamburger and a double cheese burger. Forgive me if I have discounted the veggie burger as an option. To me, a good burger has to have a number of qualities. 1. The buns should be toasted slightly, and not soggy. 2. The meat pattie has to be juicy and not dry. 3. Everything should be seasoned properly. And 4. The burger has to have the correct meat to bread ratio. To my surprise. Better burger failed to impress today. I have taken photos for this review. As you can see, the double cheese has the perfect meat to bread ratio while the hamburger with the lonely pattie does not. That's not really a biggie to some. Because they might not be able to finish a double. I do sense that's a marketing play though, since the difference between the two burgers is quite minimal. But what's unforgivable is that my buns were stone cold, and soggy from the tomato and wet lettuce. Don't get me wrong, the patties were hot. It's just the buns were cold, it's such a big contrast in temperature. It made the eating experience unpleasant. And flavour wise, the burger was poorly seasoned, bordering bland. It screamed for more sauce. The Chips were over seasoned. Now, last thing I have to be fair about is that the prices are very reasonable for a burger. $6.50 is not expensive by any means. And I do like the soft buns, they would be much better if they were warm though. Overall, I think I would revisit them in a while to review my review. As for now, you can have better burgers at any place else but here.

A "healthier", fresher, hyped, well marketed and more thought through version of a normal McDeeeeees burger. I've also read a few of the yelp reviews of this place and it's true, the more simple the dish the harder it is to execute. If you only have 4 or 5 ingredients in there... You better be careful how you prepare each and every one of them (MKR has taught me a lot hahahahaha) However, the buns are delightfully crispy on the outside and super soft and fluffy on the inside. The patty was seasoned, juicy and oily. Tomato and lettuce were fresh. Pickles were pickled. Fries were a tad too salty but nice and crispy with the skin on (plus the machine they make it with is mesmerizing haha I want one!) but that vanilla milkshake, bro.... So thick it felt like my brain was gna explode from the pressure to suck the milkshake out of the straw. I think the milkshake was the most filling part of the meal. So much so that I felt bloated after haha. Is it sad that I find the fries and shake better than the better burger? Hahaha okok I'll stop. Would I come here again? only if I'm drunk and hungry in town... That would really hit the spot.. (And then run across the road for some gooey mozzarella sticks...)

The White Lady is a food truck serving a variety of burgers and sandwiches, as well as chips. There is no seating, so they offer take away only. I was a little uncomfortable, as there was a group of homeless people sitting and laying down right next to the food truck. Because of this, I just wanted to grab my food and go. The food took about 15 mins to finish and we were out of there. They did have tomato sauce, as well as garlic aoli sauce, free to take as much as you want. I ordered the White Lady, which is one of their signature burgers. It had a beef patties, Scotch steak, Colby cheese, bacon, fried egg, grilled pineapple, fried onions, lettuce, and tomato. It sounded like a ton of ingredients, but I figured I had to try their namesake burger. I had taken my food back to my hotel, which was only about a 10-15 minute walk back. Understandably, the burger was a bit soggy. That wasn't the worst part though. My main gripe with this burger though, was the Scotch steak. It was probably my fault for not entirely knowing what a Scotch steak was. The steak was chewy and I was NOT able to bite it off each time I took a bite of the burger. After a couple bites struggling to separate the steak from the rest of the burger, I ended up just taking the steak out and eating it with a fork and knife. I cannot understand why you would put something on a burger if it cannot be bitten off solely with your teeth. It goes against the point of having something handheld. On top of that, the steak was very bland. The burger patties itself was okay, nothing amazing. I come from the United States, the home of fatty foods and the best burgers, so maybe I just have high standards. For me, this place was a one and done just to see what the hype was about.
