Black dog was tucked away beside the Empire Tavern. Look for the wooden sign with the paw print. Our trio had the Beef Smash Burger, the Brisket burger and the Chicken Sandwich. You can add fries and a beer for $11NZD. There was only one beer available (a hazy IPA which was *mwah* so good!) the fries were more of a Dutch cut than shoestring, but they were also very very good! The pickle chips were sweet pickles; also tasty. It's a small place, with three tables and a long counter. There is an interior connection to the tavern next door. Service was great. There seemed to be two people working this lunch. Front of house takes orders, pours beers and grills the burgers, and operates the fryer. Back of house does the dishes and restocks. Efficient and delicious. If time allows or if we ever come back, I'll be back.

I sat on a table outside waiting for my food I noticed there was a cool little bar next door too, some fairly lights strung between the buildings which was a very hipstery addition (tick!) and if you look up you see the Skytower - cool for someone from out of town... don't laugh at me guys ;-) Recommendation - Go the spicy burger - it was delicious. That's seriously amazing considering the burger is pretty massive. If it wasn't for the fun I had watching my skinny mate trying not to throw up during the challenge, then I would have only given velvet a 4 stars. There is nothing wrong with the burger itself, it just feels like its lacking that something special. Then again, I suppose they make it special by setting up a eating challenge so that you can laugh at the demise of your mates or them laughing at you if you are partaking in the challenge.

The White Lady is a food truck serving a variety of burgers and sandwiches, as well as chips. There is no seating, so they offer take away only. I was a little uncomfortable, as there was a group of homeless people sitting and laying down right next to the food truck. Because of this, I just wanted to grab my food and go. The food took about 15 mins to finish and we were out of there. They did have tomato sauce, as well as garlic aoli sauce, free to take as much as you want. I ordered the White Lady, which is one of their signature burgers. It had a beef patties, Scotch steak, Colby cheese, bacon, fried egg, grilled pineapple, fried onions, lettuce, and tomato. It sounded like a ton of ingredients, but I figured I had to try their namesake burger. I had taken my food back to my hotel, which was only about a 10-15 minute walk back. Understandably, the burger was a bit soggy. That wasn't the worst part though. My main gripe with this burger though, was the Scotch steak. It was probably my fault for not entirely knowing what a Scotch steak was. The steak was chewy and I was NOT able to bite it off each time I took a bite of the burger. After a couple bites struggling to separate the steak from the rest of the burger, I ended up just taking the steak out and eating it with a fork and knife. I cannot understand why you would put something on a burger if it cannot be bitten off solely with your teeth. It goes against the point of having something handheld. On top of that, the steak was very bland. The burger patties itself was okay, nothing amazing. I come from the United States, the home of fatty foods and the best burgers, so maybe I just have high standards. For me, this place was a one and done just to see what the hype was about.

Coming to New Zealand, I didn't anticipate on having a burger at all, but I was so hungry and didn't know my way around Newmarket, I think coming here was actually fate. I cannot tell you how fantastic the Lamb Burger was--the meat was so tender, the burger literally melted in my mouth. I'm not much of a beetroot eater (and I'm told this is a common topping in Australian and New Zealand burgers), but it was different in a good way. The bun was also really good, so no complains about the burger at all. We also got the Potato Skins with Truffle Aioli--amaaazing! They were hot and fresh when it came to our table and the chunky portions were more than generous. It's such a shame I'm almost 9,000 miles away because I'm craving a meal from this place at this very moment. The staff were a fun bunch, especially our waiter, Liam, who was full of laughs. Great place away to eat from the shopping madness on Broadway--Osborne Lane is a super cute and nice place to hang out.

The burgers aren't huge but the sides are so good that this works in your favour. The potato skins are a must as is the charred broccoli, which promises to convert any leafy green skeptic. Drinks-wise I've always gone for their house-made sodas but on my last visit I did sneak a sip of my brothers Lewis Road Milkshakes - seriously good! A final word of warning - Burger Burger is super popular so be prepared to wait or have a drink else where first!

Whom I believe was the owner said "we are cooking up a beef and a chicken burger for a photo shoot. Would you like them after, since we're just going to toss them?". I already had my eye on this place and free dinner sounded like something we couldn't say no to, so we accepted. We purchased some awesome fries and beers to accompany our meals. Let me say that this review has nothing to do with the fact that our burgers were free. They were fantastic! Large, flavorful, fresh and filling! We shared as we both like chicken and beef and were beyond satisfied. The owner (I think) and his coworker were very sweet and we had the best experience. I wish we had room for the list of amazing milkshakes on their menu, but unfortunately we did not. We thanked them with a gracious tip and went on our way. I'm not sure who was taking photos but my guess is the NZ Urbanlist or something similar on Instagram. Can't wait to see them as I am sure they represent the taste well!

I ordered what sounded like a simple burger and some fries. I loved the packaging; cardboard wrapper that opened to hold it together. The beef quality was just okay; there was way too much sauce and mayo. The fries were too salty so I couldn't finish them. I had much better burgers later on my trip, this one isn't really worth the visit.
