When looking for a date night spot on our trip to NZ, we came across Chargrill. I am seriously upset we haven't come every time we've been! The food was delicious. My partner got one of their pizzas and it honestly was so nicely cooked, the crust was perfect, and there was a generous amount of toppings but not overwhelming. I had one of their pasta dishes and loved it. The portion size was just perfect and the flavour was great. The service was excellent. The woman that took our orders made small talk with us and even joked with us. She was lovely. There is limited seating inside so keep that in mind if you're visiting during peak hours. There is seating outside, but it is next to a street (not much traffic but the occasional car). Overall we had a lovely experience and it was one of the most affordable meals we had while visiting. On this particular visit their "kiwi burger" and kumara fries w/ garlic aioli hit the spot. The burger and fries were huge, and we easily split it between 2 people. We arrived late in Auckland and wanted something to eat, Chargrill was perfect. It is open 24 hours, it is clean, and the food was pretty delicious and very cheap. We got a mixed rice plate (basically hummus, chicken and lamb over rice) and a lamb rice plate. If your looking for a decent takeway provider close to the central city that open 24/7 then look no further. Char Grill has it all, burgers, kebabs, pizzs's and even delicious salads. they also do a pretty rocking trade with their Breakfast menu too, the Big Brekkie meal is really good value. Be prepared to almost dislocate your jaw trying to wrap your mouth around the gigantic burgers they make here! Unfortunately there are not many places in Auckland that are open 24 hours, but thankfully Chargrill is. It is clean and they get your food to you fast. Their pizza - mediocre, or maybe it was the pizza I decided to order. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't mind blowing either. I've had their chicken salad and chicken platter and i thoroughly enjoyed both. Prices and portions are also pretty good. read more

Chargrill left me with an unpleasant experience I am directing this review to the chargrill on Hobson street We had a communication problem there I'm not sure if the lady wasn't paying attention or what, however she didn't seem to understand what I was trying to say! I specifically asked for a falafel kebab !!!Being a vegetarian and received a lamb kebab ? Not sure how that sounds like a falafel kebab? In Auckland for a few days and wife was craving pizza so decided to go to Chargrill and take it back to the hotel. We tried the meat lovers pizza and the chicken and beef over rice. The pizza was not what we are used to in the US but was good. The large is probably good for 2 people that are semi-hungry. The bread was really yeasty and doughy which wasn't a bad thing. Pizza sauce was good and the pizza was pretty cheesy. The chicken and beef over rice was solid and came with hummus, tomatoes, and lettuce. Overall, pretty good food. I suppose I am partly to blame for not paying closer attention to what the other reviewers of Char Grill actually keyed in on (e.g. "clean," "open late," "free wifi"), but there is no way in hell this is a 4 1/2 star spot. Most convenience stores are open late, and are clean, that doesn't make me want to eat their 8 hour old hot dogs or chicken fries. Char Grill is open late (24 hours), and it is "clean," however, its food is terrible. Even (drunk) at 5 AM, this would only be a 2 star spot. Chargrill it all depends about what you choose. While i am not a big fan of their burgers, surely big, but the steak is so thin that you cannot barely see it. I am a big fan of their pizzas and also their Pita Kebabs which are really nice and filling. If you re there, dont hesiate go for them. Vegetables absolutely no taste, the bread/tortilla was not toasted and therefore not delicious, there was ketchup on the kebab (why?) and the lamb meat was a mince Patty that had absolutely no taste. Finally a place that does a vegetarian burger properly! This was the most delicious burger I have ever had, the size was huge and I could really sink my teeth into it.
