Steak Burger
Sharon T.

It was 9 pm on Christmas Eve and after circling most of the CBD, I was this close to eating packaged ramen for dinner after an hour of aimlessly searching for food, because just about every kitchen was closed (yes, even the almighty Mickey D's). Not exactly what I anticipated on from traveling almost 9,000 miles for but I have to say...Thank God I did not give up! When I asked the man working the convenience store on Fort Street if he knew of any options, another lovely man in the store suggested there might be food opened on Commerce Street. Sure enough, there was a white food truck the size of a school bus that resembled an old school diner. Little did I know that this has been an Auckland staple for over 60 years! Some drunk European backpackers sat in front of the truck, so my first thought was that this was only good for a hangover. It probably is and people are probably unaware of how much they're paying, but I'm sure this is great hungover food. I went with the Steak Burger and the meat was really delicious! Lots of slices of steak and the burger was kind of huge, but price was a little steep for a food truck ($13 NZD). I mean, to think that at one point, I almost had to resort to packaged ramen after getting shut out by McDonald's and Subway, this was a miracle. Good things do happen if you wait. I am a food truck enthusiast back home, but the thought of eating from a food truck in Auckland didn't cross my mind. I'm not very familiar with the food truck scene in Auckland, but I do think this place is worth trying for street food. Friendly people and a nice spot to eat and chat at late hours when everything else is closed.

The white lady, baby come to me!

can this possibly be my first ever review for Auckland???!!! forgive me alex, for i know not what i do. now, who hasn't heard of the white lady? shame on you! the white lady is world famous.............in NZ! just like L&P!! just bring your big mouth and a twenty, you'll need it. no need to be sober, it will taste all the better. get ready, your hands and quite possibly your face will get greasy! it was so greasy, in a good way, my hands let slip my sony Z3(which cracked from the fall) whilst trying to get that perfect shot of my white lady burger!:( a burger compacted with 100g scotch fillet, beef pattie, bacon, egg, cheese, pineapple, fried onions, lettuce and tomato between two hold all, firm but not hard buns, now selling for $20(was $17.50)! this is what i would recommend all burger aficionados. but if you like pure steak then go with the aucklander, as that will give you 300g of juicy scotch fillet fillers! this is after all a food truck, lying off the somewhat glitzy queens street, so stand, eat and lick, as required. then wash it all down with a L&P soda, so good coca cola bought them! oh, don't forget to check in as there is free wifi, in the form of spark, from the nearby telephone booth! Hey little brother what have you done? Hey little brother who's the only one? Hey little brother who's your favourite bun? Hey little brother who's the one you want? Hey little brother big mouth! It's a nice day to start again. It's a nice day for a white lady! It's a nice day to start again. Hey little brother who is it you're with? Hey little brother what's your vice and wish? Hey little brother big mouth (oh yeah) Hey little brother who's your favourite bun? Hey little brother big mouth! It's a nice day to start again (come on) It's a nice day for a white lady! It's a nice day to start again.

Being from Christchurch originally, I was pretty excited to try an Authentic taste of Auckland: a white lady burger! My first night out, I hunted this icon down and I was definately not disappointed. Huge towering behemoths these burgers are! Filled with all sorts of juicy assorted fillings, that tend to run down your chin in a rather unladylike fashion, a burger from this truck really is an experience in itself. While it is more pricier than an ordinary McDonalds or Burger King burger, you get a lot more bang for your buck in my opinion. If you want to track down this truck look no further than the long line of bedraggled partygoers on a Friday or Saturday night waiting for their fix.

Egg burger

After touching down in Auckland past midnight, this is the only decent place that is still open. I got the egg burger, which had a fried egg and a beef pattie, along with the usual veg. It was so good, I can't even. This is the Five Guys burger of Auckland. Edit: I got the old school burger the next day. It came with beets, and what I tasted to be a slightly different sauce. A slightly sweeter and it had a little curry taste to it. I also had the chocolate milkshake, which was a good old milkshake.

The burger's size is really huge, I can't finish it unless I m really hungry. But the best thing is, they use the real beef steak in a burger instead of burger patties. Thumbs up for the juicy and huge burger.

Nice spot

I read some time on buzzfeed that the White lady's burgers are one of the best in New Zealand and I must say I agree with it. We had the king burger and it was amazing. All the melted cheese and the perfectly cooked egg and what a tasteful burger patty ! Amazing customer service, super fast. Really great! Also their chips are yummy and best part is you can help yourself with salt/chicken salt and tomato sauce/aioli. Highly recommend.

Reminiscent of "In N Out Burger". Lots of chunks of iceberg lettuce (not shredded). Nice chips too. A proper burger!

Lol The goal is to finish the Goneburger within 3 mins to score yourself a free Goneburger on your next visit. The current record holder polished off the burger in 1 minute and 10 seconds. That's seriously amazing considering the burger is pretty massive. If it wasn't for the fun I had watching my skinny mate trying not to throw up during the challenge, then I would have only given velvet a 4 stars. There is nothing wrong with the burger itself, it just feels like its lacking that something special. Then again, I suppose they make it special by setting up a eating challenge so that you can laugh at the demise of your mates or them laughing at you if you are partaking in the challenge.

We've eaten here 3 times and each visit resulted in something they missed. My issue is the service...I ordered my burger with fries - burger came no fries no sauce . Waited a bit then they came but only after I I went to see why it was taking long. Unacceptable - how do you bring the Nigeria with no fries??? No bueno!! Second time around they forget my fries ---again! Okay they were busy with the lunch crowd but really? So here's my suggestion: admirer you place your order ask that they don't bring your food until it's all there

Most of the food stands didn't open up for another 20mins, so we wandered around reading all of the menus and deciding what we wanted. The last stand we came across was Burg'z. Whom I believe was the owner said "we are cooking up a beef and a chicken burger for a photo shoot. Would you like them after, since we're just going to toss them?". I already had my eye on this place and free dinner sounded like something we couldn't say no to, so we accepted. We purchased some awesome fries and beers to accompany our meals. Let me say that this review has nothing to do with the fact that our burgers were free. They were fantastic! Large, flavorful, fresh and filling! We shared as we both like chicken and beef and were beyond satisfied. The owner (I think) and his coworker were very sweet and we had the best experience. I wish we had room for the list of amazing milkshakes on their menu, but unfortunately we did not. We thanked them with a gracious tip and went on our way. I'm not sure who was taking photos but my guess is the NZ Urbanlist or something similar on Instagram. Can't wait to see them as I am sure they represent the taste well!
