When a menu says "1/2 pound burger" I expect a huge 1" thick burger like the one pictured on the banner out front of the establishment, not two thin overcooked patty's that were more like 1/4 lb. Fries were overcooked and onion rings were unremarkable. Entertainment was good as all through lunch we watched a fly hop back and forth on the shake mixer blades which weren't being wiped down between shakes. Decided to try something new in our neighborhood and "Burger Barn" came up on the map... took a look at the menu, and was like, "Sure! Let's try it!" Easy to locate and right off the highway- a cute little place with indoor and outdoor seating- guessing about 8 tables inside and 8 outside. Staff was super attentive, friendly and even sat down at the table with us to take our order, made ya feel right at home. Now, let's talk about the important stuff... the food. Husband and I each ordered a burger and fries, and the burgers come in four different sizes from Jr. to MEGA... we asked about the mega size and apparently it's FOUR patties for a total of 1lb. of meat! BAM! Didn't think we could handle that so I got the Western Bacon Burger in a double size, and my husband got the Bacon Bleu in a double size. We also ordered beer battered fries which were super scrumptious. So... the burger you ask? How was it? Hella flavorful and huge! My burger was exceptional with bacon not just on top, but IN-BETWEEN the patties too. It was a ménage-a-meat party in a bun! Mmmmm... I don't think I could have handled the mega, could BARELY fit the double in my mouth. Husband's was just as big and just as exceptional. So... we left with happy tummies, and thanks to some crazy low prices, a happy wallet as well. You could pay more somewhere else for a similar burger, but I promise you it doesn't have the love and flavor that these bad boys do... nor does it have that hometown feel. Stop in, grab a bite. Super bummed. Eaten here quite a few times. Had the best food and has recently declined in the quality of food. I inquired about the size of the burgers due to the burgers being about a third of the size previously served and was told by the cook that was the normal size it just shrinks when cooked. I had the pleasure of eating lunch today on the way home from Lake Tahoe. Super busy and super good. There was a sign warning good fresh food takes time. The wait was well worth it. We both had cheese burgers with French fries. The burger was the best I had in a long time. Not a frozen patty on a bun, but a well seasoned burger moist and flavorful. Pretty good, but nothing to write home about...or drive too far for. I had the Hawaiian chicken sando, and it was tasty and satisfying. Beer-battered fries are awesome. Shakes are just OK, I think they sacrificed a little quality for the ridiculous amount of flavors offered. And service was just average. The gluten free bun on my burger was delicious and toasted to perfection. I will be back to try different burgers. I had a regular bacon cheddar with mushrooms. This is becoming our regular stop on our way back from Tahoe to Sacramento. The burgers are good. The milkshakes are mediocre. The service is what you would expect from a small mom and pop burger joint. But like I said before, if you have kids and you need a little break from the car ride back from Tahoe. I had the spicy jalapeño burger and my brother had the regular jalapeño burger, the difference being the habanero sauce added to the spicy version. Both were tasty, the meat fresh and perfectly cooked. We split a salad and a basket of the beer battered fries. There was plenty of food for the two of us. Went with my boyfriend for lunch I had the western he had the chili burger...mine was a bit messy and their napkins were very thin. Other than that it was a very good burger. Stayed in Pollock Pines for one night and decided to check out this place. Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, burgers were actually COOKED on the spot so it took a little more time but I'm ok with that. The food was tasty and hot once it arrived. Very reasonable prices!!! Overall very good. read more
