After searching for a food and drink spot that rivals the city, yet located in the suburbs, this place more than measures up. The first experience was great and the second try surpassed expectations. Each time I got the special and it was phenomenal. Hot, fresh, great flavor combinations, and an extensive drink selection with beer, wine, and specialty cocktails. Save room for appetizers and dessert. The ambiance is edgy yet inviting. Metal rock playing with funky art on the walls. They do a good job of appealing to adults while being kid friendly. The service is attentive and the servers give great suggestions because everything on the menu seems delicious. I will definitely bring friends and family here. I don't ever really crave burgers. I feel like there are so many different forms of meat, starch, and veg that surpass it in terms of creativity and flavor. But ever since I stumbled upon Burger Antics' menu of assorted meaty creations, I started to question the integrity of that idea. Tonight we tested its merits. The space is smaller than anticipated, with an open floor area in the front and a small bar by the kitchen. There is a plethora of bottles on the wall, hinting at the wide variety of alcoholic beverages offered. It seems to be fairly popular with families but that doesn't leave you feeling like you're at Chuck E Cheese's when accompanied by the 90s folk punk coursing through the air. After being a bit overwhelmed by the menu, I ordered the slider plate with the PBJ, Hotter than Hell, and Midland. The slider entree doesn't come with fries but my companions ordered full size burgers and were happy to share considering their gargantuan size. (Are you at a gastropub if the burger isn't as large as your head? Really?) The cook on the burgers was consistent, they were well seasoned, and the texture was pleasing, but the additional flavors were a bit underwhelming. The buns are soft with enough girth to hold together amidst the imminent juicy ravaging they will be subject to. They absord the juices very well without breaking apart. Fries are crispy and not too greasy with a great home ketchup that has a taste similar a sweet cooked salsa. I would buy a bottle. The Midland and Hotter than Hell were okay, I think that the caramelized onions in the Midland overpowered the cheese, and the HtH's spice was dulled to a tepid twinge due to the thick avocado slice placed underneath the spicy mayo and jalapeno peppers. Maybe that was intentional, but I like things spicy. The PBJ though.....that PBJ......I don't think I've had a better burger at a restaurant before. I LOVE peanut butter, and it feels like this was made specifically for me. I mean, there was a literal melty blob posed perfectly for consumption, just waiting for me to get my hands and face greasy. I can't sing its praises enough. If you even remotely enjoy peanut butter, get this. Or don't and I'll order another one. My companions were very happy with the extensive selection of alcohol. I don't drink and can't speak to its quality but they recommended it based on their experience. I also ordered the special dessert, tres leches, to go. The portion is generous and it was light and moist, a lovely treat to enjoy after the carnage settled and my food baby stopped kicking. 2nd time here, i'm still speechless! Absolutely the best burgers in our area! Homemade ketchup is delicious.... all of their homemade sauces are mouthwatering!! They offer Gluten free options, vegan options, and cook the burgers perfectly everytime. They have a huge whiskey & beer menu. When I say huge, they're menu is only 4 pages and there are drinks on 2 1/2. Hey at least I got a gluten free zombie killer, which is absolutely amazing! Heavy metal & burgers just goes... kept me nice & calm&chilled the entire time. They've found a way of installing small sound proofing panels though so it doesn't get too loud in this little area. The wait can be long but it's well worth it. I'm almost sad i'm so stuffed.... if I could spend the night with their food I would! Lol Their burgers are too die for! Cooked to perfection, melts in your mouth. We had gotten 3 medium, & 1 medium well, and let me tell you those bad boys didn't disappoint. They have every mix you can imagine with the make your own. Not your basic burger joint! This place has all kinds of creative burgers and a bar besides (my date noted that it's four pages into the menu before you actually get to the food!), with local art on the walls and movies playing on three screens (in our case, "Raiders of the Lost Ark." I have seen it a million times, but that doesn't make the melting-face Nazi scene any more appealing over lunch...). We started out with the 'shrooms stuffed with goat cheese, onion and roasted garlic. Very yummy, but you may not want to fill up because your entree has yet to come... We both got the trio of sliders, which included the Buff N' Stuff, Black N' Blue, Mushroom Swiss and the Peanut Butter, Jelly and Bacon. We both agreed that the Buff N' Stuff (buffalo sauce, blue cheese and bacon) was the most flavorful (but one end of my bacon strip was totally underdone, like not even browned :/) However, you didn't really get the taste of the meat; it was serving more as a vehicle for the toppings. This was rectified in the Black n' Blue, which involved blue cheese, frizzled onions and supposedly cajun spices; the menu warns that it "packs a punch," but I didn't detect any superpowered spices. This one did have a focus on the meat with the other flavors complementing it. I had the Mushroom Swiss, which had the good umami flavors from the grilled white mushrooms, but I couldn't even see any cheese on it? This one was less exciting than I expected. My companion's last slider was the Peanut Butter, Bacon and Jelly; he said that most of the jelly slid out at the beginning, so the structure of this one wasn't really successful. He said that the flavors were interesting but after a while it just seems like piling more stuff on the burger just for the sake of it. If you want something unusual, though, this is it! We also ordered a side of fries to share, expecting a modest pile, but we received a boatload that we couldn't remotely finish! Our waitress was friendly and alert and also gave me an "Antics Revolution" pin since she saw all the buttons on my bag ;) People are definitely in the know about this place, because it was quite crowded and it's not too big! My trusty Yelp app worked yet again!!! I had a business meeting in the area, so that is how I found Burger Antics on the Yelp app. It already has great stars/reviews so that's what drove me there. As well as their partnership with the arts (feature a local artist for the month) and donation for every burger of the week (see their website for deets). And I must say, it was one of the best burgers I've ever had! Check the specialty sodas menu before you order a basic coke or pepsi, please!!! You can get those brands anywhere!!! They have some really fun stuff. I had the sarsaparilla which is basically root beer, but much stronger of a root beer flavor. The burger of the week not only sounded awesome, but I wanted to get that buck donation over to the Exclusive Peaks Foundation (who's mission is to create outdoor classrooms in order to reconnect students to nature and their community by rehabilitating the endangered monarch butterfly population) how cool is that?! Yeah, try ordering that with a male server and two make coworkers, boss included. I didn't care, I just said it. The patty was great, the combination of the havarti and avocado creamy and the pickled onions were absolutely wonderful. The burger I had here was easily in my top 5 (if not top 3) best burgers I have ever had. I know that is a bold statement, but the burger was THAT good. It was the burger of the week and called the "Bite my ass burger" It had the juicest and most flavorful patty topped with pulled pork. I was so excited to eat here, we walked in, the place had a great vibe. A blond waitress welcomed us with the friendliest smile. My daughter ordered a burger with an egg on it , I don't remember the name, she ordered it medium well as I did , brown on the outside pink in the middle. I ordered Buff n Stuff medium well , my burger was red raw I cut it in half. I told the waitress and she said oh maybe I should have explained how burgers are cooked . I let the waitress know that I am aware of the cooking differences and I let her know, that my burger should have been brown on the outside pink in the middle not red. She offered to take the burger back and cook it again. ( Normally you get a new burger, not at Burger Antic) . She brought the same burger back out, one half was cooked better. The waitress asked if it was better ? The half I bit into was cooked better. However when I went to bit into the other half it was still raw. I felt sick to my stomach all night. I was very disappointed how this was handled . We were not offered and apology or a new burger or a discount for giving me raw meat. This can be dangerous. I love B.A., and the husband loves it even more. Yet, with their price point we definitely don't hit it up as much as we want. $29 for two burgers and fries for a pick up is on the high side. At any rate, their veggie burger is still tasty and the husband's 4 cheese is to die for. Or so he says as he clutches his chest midst food heart attack. Where I struggle to recommend this place is the cost. I am all for supporting local businesses and paying a small premium for that. However, let's put things in perspective. Quarter pounder at McD"s is $5, standard bar burger $12, high-end pub burger $16, Gibson Steakhouse premium burger $21. Burger antics $22. Burger Antics has a very good burger. Was hit with a random craving for a juicy burger, and burger antics really delivered! We ordered a mushroom swiss beef burger and built our own black bean burger with pepper jack, frizzled onions (A MUST!), avocado, and chipotle mayo. I can honestly say the black bean burger was the best burger I've ever had! This is particularly surprising to me because I am usually a meat person! It was moist which I like in my black bean burgers, and the patty was very substantial. The beef burger was delicious as well and really rich in flavor. I will say their temperature chart runs a little on the undercooked side as their medium-well is what I would consider a perfect medium! Back in August 2014, I wasn't yet a Yelp Elite and just started my "Yelp career," hubby just finished a service call at a nearby bowling alley in Countryside. I yelped what was around and discovered the original "Burger Antics" attached to a sports bar. I had their "Swiss & Mushroom." It was one of these memorable burgers that I knew that I would have more than once in my lifetime. Fast forward to the year of 2016, "Burger Antics" has found a permanent home in downtown Brookfield. Hubby and I were out and about in Lombard, so we decided to stop by to have some quality burgers. I know many restaurants that serve burgers as their primary specialty don't always offer vegan or vegetarian burger patty option, yet you have a choice to substitute the usual beef patty with the black beans. My "Blue n' Black" burger was just as fantastic as the "Swiss & Mushroom" I had last time. The crumbs of blue cheese drizzled on the medium-cooked thick beef patty...don't tell me that it doesn't sound enticing! Their fries were fresh and crispy. The chef here knows her stuff because one (1) large pickle is included with every burger entree. That's exactly how I like to conclude my burger feast. Even though the burgers here are top-notch, I didn't love the service. It was slightly impersonal and wish it could be more prompt. We were definitely not neglected. The server came to out table asking if we were ready to order "thirty (30) seconds" upon sitting down. We respectfully informed her that we weren't and please gave us some time to peruse the menu. Ten (10) minutes passed and we have made our decisions, she was nowhere to be found and we didn't want to be rude to flag her down. At the end of the meal, the owner came around and greeted everyone in the dining room. I always know that local business owners want to do the best they can and having good feedback from social media is crucial to their business.
