I have to echo some sentiments of other reviewers. While I was happy with Tom, his office is a professional mess. After a few years of getting my taxes done here, I hit a wall this year. I was basically stood up for my 9am appt after rescheduling to accommodate his travel. I left several messages and NO ONE EVER called me back to apologize or re-schedule. He needs a new receptionist/asst ASAP. I will never go back. I was so angry about the run-around, disappearing act, and lack of acknowledgment that I had to wait to write this review. I've been going to Burbank Tax for the past 5 years, ever since I quit my day job and decided to work from home full time. I honestly don't know what I'd do without Thomas. Besides my taxes, he has answered questions regarding business taxes and licensing Ive had before. The best part about him is that, even though he is obviously swamped, he never makes me feel rushed when we meet to do my taxes. When you have client after client for 12 hour days, it can be easy to lose patience, but he never does. His receptionist is great too. The only downside is that since he moved locations, parking can be a tad difficult depending on what time of day you are scheduled. Other than that though, not a single complaint! read more

Sadly, it's a ZERO Star Rating for Tom. I too was a long term client and he's truly is MIA. Last I saw of him was on July 10, 2010 where we signed my returns. That appointment was not easy to schedule! He wouldn't return my calls, but after a few calls from my brother, he finally responded. He acknowledged dropping the ball, but never offered me any discount on his service. Frankly, I was just happy to finish up my taxes. It's been 2 months since he was "sent' my returns to the government, but neither have been received, let alone refunded! I'm left in a pickle and of course, Tom is nowhere to be found, again! I've made one final attempt to reach Tom. Hopefully he'll respond as my next step will be small claims court and a having him investigated by the IRS. read more

Thomas is very smart, however, after going to him for years, I started to just feel like a number, as I think he takes on too many clients, and the wait times became longer and longer. I was just rushed in and out, so I no longer send him referrals. read more

I have to agree with David. I used Tom for many years. In fact, I was one of his original clients when he started his own company. He was nice and helpful. I referred countless people to him and his business grew. Then things changed. He took on way too many clients (in my opinion) and he became VERY difficult to reach and get a hold of. It took countless phone calls and pestering to get my return from him in 2008. When I finally reached him I specifically told him how upset I was at the lack of basic business courtesy. Unfortunately, he thought it was better to lose me as a client than to apologize and fix things. It is a shame. I believe he is a nice guy and a fine tax prep person... but he needs to take some basic business-101. Clients should come first. Now my business goes to Turbotax. At least I can get my answers quickly. read more

I have to agree Tom is a nice guy BUT the office staff is inept and cannot keep his appointments straight or on time. Tom has prepared our taxes for 6 years now but every year he runs late (by 45minute - 1hour). This year I called to change an appointment and they had made the appointment on the wrong day - it's just unbearable. Can anyone recommend a good tax person in the valley - PLEASE? I'm sorry to say that after 5 years of doing my taxes... Tom is MIA. I filed an extension this year - and haven't been able to get my appointment rescheduled since it seems he's disappeared. I've been going to Burbank Tax for 4 years now and have had a good experience each time. Thomas specializes in helping out entertainment professionals and has always maximized my returns while minimizing payouts (yuck). What's more important here is that he's a cool guy with a friendly staff and accurate records...it never feels quite like a tax appointment. I used to liken tax preparation to going to the dentist. No longer. I would recommend Thomas and Burbank Tax to anyone, whether they're in the entertainment industry or not. read more

Not sure why yelp decided not to post my review, but here it is again. People should know the good AND the bad about a business. Shame on you, Yelp. I thought Thomas Olivelle was great until I actually needed some help after filing my taxes. Oh, he did fine just entering all my numbers that I gave him into his computer and printing out a tax return, but after we completed my 2006 taxes we ran into a bit of a problem. I had already sent my taxes in, and when I was cleaning out my desk I came across two 1099's that had been misplaced and not included in my return. I called Tom and left a message asking if I needed to file an amended. Never got a return call. I faxed him the 1099's with a note asking him to call me and asking again if I needed to refile. No call back. Called several times after that...no return call. Had a baby. Called after that...still no call back, then his phone was disconnected. So this year I get a letter from the IRS asking for money, and I call him to get his help, no call back. I email him a scan of the IRS letter, and tell him I need to reply to IRS before April 30th. No call back. No reply to email. This guy is so unprofessional. After paying close to $200 for a simple tax return, I can honestly say that it is better to go with someone else who may be able to help you if there is ever, god forbid, a problem with the IRS or you get audited or something. HE NEVER EVEN RESPONDED TO ME! He's just awful. He should really get 0 stars. read more

The same thing happened to me. I had a very important issue that I needed Tom's help with. I left countless messages and emails and he NEVER responded. I now have no one to turn to and need help. If I had been involved in an audit - this would have been disastrous!!! Stay away from Tom and this company. Very unprofessional and not at all trustworthy. I LOVE THOMAS!! My husband and I have been coming to him for years now, and continue to have him file our taxes even though we moved to San Francisco 4 years ago. We fly down to have him do our taxes every year, he is that good. This guy knows his tax $hi#, is organized as hell, and will help you maximize your refund (or minimize what you owe), is totally up to the latest IRS rules, makes you document everything, and is on top of every little detail. He will help you find deductions you are entitled to - even the ones you didn't know you qualify for. He is VERY busy and his business has grown over the last few years, but that's because he is AWESOME at what he does. Make sure to book your appointment early and show up to your appointment on time and with all your proper paperwork (this is not a "walk-in off the street 2 weeks before taxes are due" kind of place). If you don't come with the right stuff, it will just lead to delays (which is your own fault). Don't be offended if he runs behind schedule on the day of your appointment, because if you can keep your cool and be patient, he will give you his full attention during your appointment and will take good care of you. He explains everything in detail and will answer all your questions. This kind of quality is worth the wait. read more

Do not go to this man to get your taxes done. I saw him last year, and made a follow up appt to finish. He had left his office, didn't return my phonecalls and never did my taxes OR never returned all my documents. i spent months trying to get more documents and went to HR block! Tom Olivelle has been doing my corporate taxes as well as my personal taxes since 1999. And, as others have pointed out, there was an unfortunate time period when his work was impacted by circumstances outside of his business office - but I stayed with him. Why? Because in business as well as our personal lives sometimes extenuating circumstances can define a man, or a business. When Tom came back on the scene from his hiatus he was supercharged to make up to his clients any challenges and problems created by his absence. And, you don't always find that in today's world. My loyalty is not easily given but Tom has continued to be a consummate professional and expert at handling my production company's and personal taxes, even through we consistently through curve balls at him, year after year. I've been going to Tom for more than 10 years now and every year I have a great experience. I know that in the last year or so Tom has been kind of hard to get ahold of, but from the looks of things this year that's all over. He's got a new location and additional staff, everything is much more organized. I've always been highly organized with my receipts and such and so my appoinments is literally no more than an hour from start to finish, and with the deductions I take for being an entertainment professional, it could take a lot more time. Wow ! Burbank Tax really saved the day for me this year. I forgot to file an extension, but their office called & reminded me !! and handled it over the phone !! I mean who does that sort of thing anymore ? Great service and great people. It"s actually fun getting my taxes done over there-very friendly atmosphere. Thomas, the head tax accountant is very knowledgeable about all the ins and outs of preparing taxes. I like his new office-larger, modern and clean with a good, calm mood.
