I couldn't find any personal tax preparer recs so I found this place on Yelp and took a chance (a chance backed by many Yelpers). In fact, I called a couple of places and could tell over the phone that Mady was knowledgeable. I recommend calling and speaking to the EA or CPA or whomever you are planning to use to get an idea of how they can help you with your tax scenario. I made an appointment, spoke to Mady briefly, and then returned a week later to pick up my tax return. My first impression was that Debbie and Mady are both laid back people with good senses of humor and seem to approach their clients and work with friendliness and respect. Debbie who makes the appointments and looks like she helps in many ways, was very nice and managed all the paperwork I emailed. Mady is personable and knowledgeable and I was very happy that he went over my entire tax return with me and answered all my questions. The office has a few different sections so don't be afraid to ask for privacy if you feel more comfortable discussing your taxes (without anyone else in the room waiting). They happily accommodated my request. I got money back and in legit, legal ways. Mady does not seem to cut corners, while still making sure I got all the breaks and benefits I could. Their office also seems organized - important for a tax office. They also always answered the phone when I called. Street parking is easy in the area. Call and make an appointment first. They take checks (or Visa/Mastercard with a $5 service fee). I was charged $250 which I think was reasonable. I was happy with how my return was handled and will definitely be back next year. Don't come here unless you want to be audited by the IRS. I have NO idea how this place gets five stars from anybody. Lord knows, we fell for these reviews and paid the price. Of the three years of taxes he prepared we were audited for one and paid a penalty on another. This is, hands down, the WORST accountant I've ever had, and I once had that guy in Encino who doctored so many of his clients returns he lost his license to practice, and even *then* I didn't get audited. Mady seems clueless and many times would tell us conflicting information while you play twenty questions trying to get an answer out of him. There were times where we really started to wonder whether he was stupid or he had some kind of progressive dementia setting in (Not a joke). The difference in having a conversation from the first year to the third was dramatic and not reassuring when you're overwhelmed with a federal audit. All of which is compounded by his staff who seem to live by the adage 'the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.' So you'll get a request for information and you'll answer it only to have the other person contact you days later requesting the same information. And then you'll show up and get asked if you ever sent that information. Or calling to confirm your appointment after you've already been in to their office and had it. And this just happens over and over and over. While prepping for our audit we realized he'd entered numbers twice in different areas of the form, and in one case, entered half of our payroll expenses. Basically the entire preparation was a mess and we doubted it was double checked before being submitted. So once it went into the system the irregularities got picked up and we got tagged for an audit. At one point we were on the phone with the IRS and the woman we were speaking to just sighed and said, "Your accountant really doesn't know what he's doing." Yikes. Basically everything this company touches is suspect and we're actually coughing up the money to have the other two years redone by our new accountant. *That's* how little trust we have in the competence of SecuriTax. Look, when we Yelped this guy he had, like, 25 reviews, mostly positive, so I can only assume the suddenly pushing 50 positive reviews are the result of a Cambodian clickfarm. Don't take the bait. Absolutely loved the services provided this tax season. The Securitate office is small and you get a very one on one experience. I had my taxes done here this year. It was just a w-4 and a few 1099's and they were very quick. I was given a hand out where of time to guide me through deductions and the actual meeting took about an hour. I had to file my 1099 and my w2. I went to HR Block (across the street from Securitax), and HR block was charging way too much, and I felt like they were just herding cattle in and out.
