I got to try out this gelato place in Capri yesterday and it was absolutely delicious! I got their strawberry gelato and lemon flavor. I have to say this was the best gelato I've had in Italy. There was a long line, but it seemed to move pretty quickly. I also got the gelato on their waffle cone which they make in house and fresh daily. This place has some great gelato and desserts. I went there earlier in the afternoon and ate some of the desserts in the hotel room. It was so good, I had to go back and buy some more. I recommend the Caprilu al Limone, the Ricci Caprise in both chocolate and white chocolate with lemon, and the pinolate. On my second visit there, I also ate a Fantasia de Capri gelato. It was something beyond the usual gelato flavors so I had to try it. It was delicious in the waffle cone they make upon order. The cone was still warm with the creamy gelato inside. So, when that happens you follow the disorganized crowd to the busy spots - like this place. Oh the confusion; especially when it's mad busy. Skip the gelato line and go straight in for the out of this world nothing like it Caprilu Limon Almond Cookies, which happen to be Gluten-Free because they are made with almond flour. I've come back to Capri just for them and have almost got the recipe down at home. Make sure to grab a couple boxes to take home. You'll regret it if you don't. Hands down best gelato place in Italy so far. I was in Capri for two days and came here for gelato both days. They make their waffle cones fresh in front of you - and it is so good! I got a cone with two flavors each time. First time with panna cotta and nocciolata, and second time with caffe and stracciatella. All of the flavors were so good. Can't wait to come back here and try the rest of the flavors. We came by at around 11pm and the line to this place was sooo long. Caprilu al Limone cookies are all you need to know! The pistachio ones are good, too. They are so so so soft in the center and smelled like fresh almonds. I like Capri but compared to the other cities in the South of Italy, I don't really love it. I felt the same way about Gastronomia di Buonocore Raffaele. There is certainly nothing wrong with this shop and the gelato is fine but just like Capri I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be given Capri's splendid reputation and glowing reviews from previous travelers. What we found is that you'll walk around Capri not knowing where to stop for a quick bite and then this shop will grab your attention with the sweet smell of waffle cones being made wafting towards you. Then you'll see many tourists lining up for this and it reels you in. For about 2.5 euros you can get a nicely sized waffle cone with fairly generous scoops of gelato. Here I tried the Stracciatella and the Mango sorbet. Both were nice flavors but not above and beyond anything else we had in Rome or other cities. Still better than gelato in the U.S. without a doubt. In the end, as far as the south of Italy goes, I much prefer Raki for gelato. We also had the mini pizza at 2.5 euros and it definitely was not impressive. It was lukewarm and tasted slightly above microwavable pizza. I'm not trying to be harsh but it really was not up to the Italian standard. Overall, just A-Ok. read more

Amazing amazing amazing!! At home I don't usually consume dairy, but I'm soooo glad I splurged on vacation. This gelato was super fresh. I got the Chocolate Almond (forget the name) and the house flavor with Nutella drizzled in (Fantasia di Capri). It was so light and creamy. The Chocolate Almond had a strong almost liquor like taste - strange at first, then I couldn't stop eating it. The gelato was served in a cone that you saw the woman make right there!!! I usually don't eat my cones if I get them, but this was too delicious not to. My boyfriend and I also enjoyed a cookie with hazelnuts popping out - OMG!! We came early, but later on saw a long line. Okay, we had some GREAT gelato in our 14 days in Italy but the Caprilu flavor here paired with their incredible homemade waffle cones makes this the BEST gelato we had in Italy. It was so good we went back to have it TWICE in our ONE day trip to Capri HAHA... yes.. we had a cone then walked around then had it again (this time 1 cone each) for my husband and I. The first time I tried it, was a little watery for me. I was told though that in Capri, they prefer it this way so its more refreshing in the heat. Perhaps it was just the batch or flavor I got, because it was great the next several times. Here are my two best tips for this place. The line get long, so have someone wait on the line and have another go into the bakeshop for some pastries while you wait. I loved the canolli and the pistashini which were like cake bombs. This will make your wait much easier and flavorful. The next tip, get the panna on the ice cream which is the whipped cream. They have machine behind the counter and its a half euro up charge that is well worth it for that extra creamy taste. read more
