After I saw an island similar to what I wanted on JWAC's facebook page I contacted them and he (Daniel) was quick to reply. I explained what I was looking for and he said he could build it. I gave him measurements, and within an hour and a half I had a detailed drawing of my exact design/description along with a quote. So far, I was impressed. From the time I ordered it (April 20) to the delivery date (July 5), the date/time of when it would be started and then be delivered, changed 10 times. TEN. I can understand being behind a week or two, or even changing the date 2 or 3 times, but this was excessive. I was even told mine would be expedited (which he said he was doing for free), which it was not. My contract stated that construction would begin mid May and would take two weeks (told me in text) and also in text he told me from the point of hire it would be 4 weeks until delivery. When I booked him it was never mentioned that he had other pieces that would slow mine down. When he had not started on my island at all towards the end of June, I asked for a refund, which he would not do. He uses words like aim, possible, estimated, goal, likely, believe, planning, try, and hope which allows him to never give any clients a definite answer, therefor he can take as much time as he wants. Even though his work is custom and takes time, he should plan better and offer better customer service. The poor customer service takes away from the entire experience. If my contract had said delivery to be early June, then there would not have been a problem. Again, my island is GORGEOUS and I am VERY happy with it, but the customer service was very poor.

He also cut the sink opening 1/4 of an inch too big. He recommended a plumber/tile guy who he frequently works with who we used to install the sink. When he asked Pablo to come back and trim down the sink opening he refused unless we paid him an additional charge. Also one end of the top of our bar is rounded and the other end is square. Pablo spouts all this crap about wanting to make the customer happy but when it comes to standing behind his work, he doesn't practice what he preaches!!!! I do not recommend The Master. More like the Master of Disaster!!

I tried contacting a variety of handymen, plumbers, etc.. and they were not able to offer this service. After extensive search, thankfully i found Pablo who was able to perform this service for a very reasonable flat fee. I placed the inquiry on yelp and was able to book next day service. Pablo showed up on time, did and excelled job refitting the sink, and fixing it in place with a strong bracing system to make sure it doesn't come loose again. He cleaned the moldy old caulking and resealed the sink and made sure he left the job site clean. Real professional work and great and easy communication. I am very satisfied and recommend his services.

So..: I'm going to be blunt and completely honest. I had a problem with clear choice…read moreconstruction. Apparently a prior job refused to pay them and it trickled down to my job. I couldn't contact them and I was for sure I got scammed. I went as far as to go to the police and contact an attorney who told me realities of recouping money. But here's the deal. The policeman went and talked to them and came back to me and told me the truth. They had a job fall through and this cascaded through many people. Is it right I couldn't contact them... NO. But he made me see it another way. They were scared. They didn't have our deposits as most contractors use one jobs money for another and it's a house of cards. That's reality of this business. These people made a mistake, but in his words, they weren't trying to commit a crime. And don't kid yourself... almost any mom and pop business is one job away from this happening. So I had 2 choices. Get mad, sue them, keep the police involved or I could work with them. Option 1 might feel good for a minute but option 2 allows me to get my windows and take a little off their plate. So, he had them call me. And with some brutal honesty on both sides we were able to come to an agreement. They could keep my deposit as labor and I'd purchase the windows myself (through them because I'd pay a fortune and don't have a license with manufacturers). And that's what we did. In the end it cost me almost the exact same as originally quoted. 3 weeks later my windows arrived and they promptly put them in. They look wonderful and they did a magnificent job. I have zero complaints and am happy enough to tell this story and try to help them out. Look, I wanted to believe the worst and almost let my anger take me down the option 1 road. But it wouldn't have benefitted anyone. A little compassion and a bit of honesty allowed both of us to win. I recommend you use them. Their workmanship is top notch and they are just trying to recover from a job gone bad.

After reporting this matter to the North Carolina Attorney General, instead of any meaningful…read moreresolution, I was sent a cease-and-desist letter threatening legal action for defamation and libel per se, as shown in the attached letter. I have also attached the emails showing that Patrick Priester twice attempted to require us to sign a release before receiving our deposit refund and site restoration payment. The initial offer included a $1,000 site restoration payment, which was later increased to $1,500 in an effort to obtain our signature on a release. Only after I challenged those terms in writing was my deposit returned unconditionally. I have attached the relevant page of the Project Scope Clarification, which states verbatim: "We will patch the dry wall openings, screwed in place." It does not state that the drywall would simply be screwed back in place, as Mr. Priester now claims. Mr. Priester also claims my review is contradicted by my own photographs because I referenced a cutout "directly against our kitchen cabinetry." My review never stated the cabinetry was damaged. It stated the cutout was directly against the cabinetry, which is exactly what the photographs show. I have also attached the company's correspondence demonstrating the four different explanations provided for canceling this project, depending on the audience. Readers can decide for themselves whether those explanations are consistent. At no point was there any discussion of alternative door sizes or any other possible solution. Instead, the project was terminated after the engineering review had been completed, the additional structural costs had been approved in writing, and Speaks had already cut into our finished walls and window frame during the drywall inspection while representing that the door order would be placed. I have no reason to misrepresent what occurred. That is why I am posting the original emails, photographs, contract documents, repair estimate, and correspondence. They speak for themselves.
