During our week at a cabin at Lake Martin, I made runs to D&S to get butter, eggs, milk, beer, salsa, aloe (for sunburned kids), and quite a few other items. Surprisingly good beer selection, with several local (Alabama) craft breweries represented. There's a hot deli that offers burgers, wings, and pizza. As I said, convenient options are non-existent, so it gets busy during lunch and dinner. Gas pump island is startlingly close to the front door, so have some situational awareness, lest you get run over or run over someone.

These artesian mineral waters are better for us all than all these "purified" waters we find like Dasani and generic off-bands. They do have some staples, I'm guessing because they are in the middle of nowhere and then a few miles beyond ... so they make it so the folks that are in the area don't have to drive forever (plus a little more) to get to a n actual grocery store. It's buried in a downstown-ish strip of The Waters neighborhood. It's got very tall ceilings, great decor, soft, non-offensive background music playing. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The lady serving us explained everything on the menu. We chose two bottomless cups of coffee. They brew Prevail coffee, which is full of flavor, but not over-roasted. Smooth finish, with nice flavors and no strong after-taste. This place is out of the way for us, but worth the drive for a morning coffee date. We sat and chatted uninterrupted, loved looking at the layers of very attractive decor, while sitting in a couple of leather chairs. It's what a coffee shop should be- cozy, airy, smell of java, clean, (99 health rating on the wall), comfy with a great server. I can't answer to their ability to knock something out of the espresso machine, but what we had was very good, and is definitely a nice break from a Starbucks, with a better cup of coffee, in my opinion.
