Lousy customer service rarely surprises me these days. Having a job in retail might have meant…read morecustomer service was important at one time. I'm told that hired help is so hard to find that the only apparent job skill needed is a pulse. I don't actually believe that. But so often I'm finding it to be the only trait I can identify when I'm face to face with many of the front line workers on any given day. This afternoon I entered the auto parts store. One of countless that I've navigated during my life's numerous car issues since 1984 id say. Back as a teenager I wasn't qualified to work at such a place because I was uncomfortable in any position dealing with strangers. Not exactly shy, but not skilled in opening a conversation with strangers. I was good with mechanical stuff and could perform many basic maintenance needs for motorized as well as pedal powered machines. But because I only had a pulse at that time, I wasn't ready to enter the work force for the far distant future of the 21st century job market. Fast forward to 2021. I'm old by the standards of the millennials, old by my standards as I viewed anyone over 30 once upon a time. The 4 young men today at Auto Zone were all up at the front counter, one was at the cash wrap ringing up a paying customer. Two were standing, and talking about something, not busy nor were they completely doing anything of concern. Number four was aware that I was looking for something after I already looked for it and failing to locate it, returned to the front to ask. If you've ever been to any auto parts store in America, the way it works is you A) Go straight to the aisle and track it down yourself. B) Go to the area (for example air, oil, or fuel filters) where they are shelved and you'll see a couple paperback catalogs hanging from a cable or similar. You locate the make model and year of the vehicle you are working on and after learning this method (it's like learning the Dewey decimal system in the library, except the librarian isn't there to teach you, so generally a store employee might show you or, in my case dad did) you find the code and search among the secret number code scheme embedded into this mysterious car repair coven. C) You go to the counter and one of the presumably trained employees does (B) for you, or they use the modem computer system right up on the counter and go fetch your part from the cavernous warehouse behind the door. Today's MENSA applicant did a bit of B and C. He looked up the code on the computer. HE DID THIS BECAUSE THIS STORE DOESN'T Apparently have the catalog. In fact this shitty store only stocks ONE brand of filters period. STP. So he looks up the code, writes it down and hands it to me. At first I walked towards the wall of filters. I KNOW this f'n system. I KNOW how to read the catalog and how to find the parts. I KNOW how to do his job, but I'm NOT going to do it. In the case of auto parts stores not having these catalogs, it's standard practice to look up these scary coded numbers and then GO FETCH the parts for the paying customer. My main store always does this. Often when they're busy I'll happily go get the parts myself, I LIKE the fact that I'm one of the customers that can in fact DIY with absolute confidence AND COMPETENCE, hold my own in their sort of secret club. But when I go into a bozo outfit that employs dimwits that are both INCOMPETENT as well as LAZY, I am not so forgiving. Terrible customer service. I MIGHT be out of line in this review. But I don't believe I am. The manager of that store needs to know that the workers that are lazy should be working at his competitors store, not his. I didn't buy the filter at this store. I'll likely not return to this store. Good customer service brings repeat customers, lousy service brings words such as these.

Outstanding service year after year…read more These guys are on the ball and most of the time very friendly. All are helpful, even the ones who aren't supposed to be. I frequent 3 of the areas stores under this families name. I sometimes see the counter guys at the other locations. While they don't greet me by name, they do acknowledge my being a regular. I truth, although I've been a regular for about 10 years, I don't know I could recollect their names either. But 10:1 they will be spot on when asked to track down a part and have it available often the same day, but usually the next. Or they will call the nearby store and find if it's readily avail NOW, and make sure you are the one who buys it if you make the trip. Auto Zone today failed me in this grievous error and minutes ago I noted their outright miserable customer service performance as I saw appropriate. I bought the filter in question, even though it was a higher price to do so. To make a point. Customer service matters.

At first, I called the shop in order to inquire about some small short fuses for my jeep. Additionally, they told me that the fuse wouldn't fix it, but if I wanted to come in and spend money I could do that anyways. I also brought in samples of the original fuse as well as fuses that I bought from AutoZone. I noticed that there were different volt ratings on each type of fuse, not just the amps. When I had asked about what potentially could happen with the fuse, and if it would fail sooner if it was not rated for a specific voltage, I was not provided a thorough answer. I don't expect all representatives at auto part stores to have some an electrical engineering background, however, I would expect for someone to explain a little bit more, rather than them just selling the product and telling the customer to "make sure you keep the receipt "

My first time with 'Don The Car Care Man' at the University Ave was during the time while I buying…read moremy current car. While all other places either quoted me higher prices or were super busy for a car inspection, Don's price was reasonable as well as was flexible with timings. They gave a detailed report on the car and told me that the serpentine belt ($170) is wearing off and needs to be replaced soon. With this, I was able to bargain a better price before buying my current car. In fact, the serpentine belt broke less than two months of me buying the car as they predicted. I have been getting my oil change here every 3-4 months ever since. Mine is a 11 year old car with 220 k miles, so there are new issues that regularly pops up. They give me estimates for all the repairs, they also tell me which one is necessary for me to drive and which is not (like my car's rattling noise at times which I'm fine with). They also call me if they find new issues while they are working and ask for my decision before moving further. I'm grateful to them for always being honest and kind to me. I strongly recommend the place on the University Ave especially if you work close to the campus. I usually call them to see if I can drop my car off in the morning before going to work at UW and I pick my car back around 5 pm when I head back home. When I called back and challenged they said there was an "error" and they didn't know why she was charged an extra $20. (I'll bet I know why...) Calls to other shops ranged around $20 for install to free if she bought the bulb at the dealer ($15ish). When Don owned it, it was a reputable shop, not any more.

For a gas station, I was very impressed with the modern design of the gas station and each of the…read moreindividual stands. From the road, my boyfriend and I had to turn right into a street before turning into the gas station after going in a little further. Since there's sufficient number of gas station stands, even though all the nearby ones were occupied, we managed to find a spot by the end that allowed for us to fill up gas for the left side of our car. Although, I didn't get to go inside the convenience store, from the outside, it looked very clean and professional. Gas at this station was noticeably cheaper than other nearby locations.
