Named after a Russian noble by Swiss mercenaries, this deep fried glove of Gruyere is one of my favorites. This restaurant is renowned for its malakoff. The dried beef (viande sechee) is amazing too. The whole meal goes best with a white chasselas. The only challenge is getting here without a car. Über will cost about 20- from Nyon. Count on about 30-40 from Geneva. You could always take a train to Gland and Uber from there too. Come out and try this place. You won't be disappointed.

Malakoffs belongs in the holy trinity of cheese dishes with fondue and raclette, and might be my favorite of all. I have only had the Malakoffs here, but there are other offerings including fish and meat dishes. Some of my friends have ordered these and gave them high marks as well, but the Malakoffs to me are what make this place special. You can't get them in other parts of Switzerland, and if you like cheese, these are amazing. I always go with the menu Maison, which comes with a nice variety of dried meats (delicious), salad (simple with a nice dressing), bread, small pickles and onions, ALL YOU CAN EAT Malakoffs, and a choice of dessert. It is a fantastic value for Switzerland, at only 38 CHF. I don't think I would have this much of a gripe if it wasn't for the relatively high cost of the meal. I am ready to pay for good food, but not for the tasteless rubbish they occasionally serve.

The major issue with the evening was the extreme slowness of the kitchen (though the brasserie was less than half full, and for much of our time there not even one-third full). The owners made a business gesture at the end, with an apology and free dessert, so I'll just comment on the quality of the food and the service. The service was by two people who were obviously very inexperienced both in the job and what the brasserie had to offer: the waitress didn't even know whether they had any muscat for my apéritif. However, they did make up for that with their friendly, helpful natures and nice smiles. The food was so-so. We started with prawn cocktail, which was uninspiring and the prawns appeared to have been defrosted. I followed with an entrecôte with forestière sauce, fries and vegetables. The meat was fine, though not exceptional. The sauce was bland and lacking in real mushroom flavour. The vegetables were only four cherry tomatoes and a couple of asparagus tips. So, overall, the food was okay, but nothing to rant about. I could only hope that the restaurant would be better - but it still has the same kitchen.
