We stayed in Room 306 10/2/2023 - 10/5/2023; $132.71 per night. Such an amazing property! The room amenities were excellent, especially considering the age of the hotel - hot strong water and tub drains perfectly. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the room was clean and beautiful. The staff makes you feel like family - probably because there are many families who work there. We seriously didn't want to leave. No fridge or microwave, just coffee. Grade A.

Great place to stay if you want authenticity, to start the elevator was great, room was small but that is how it was back then, we totally felt we we went back in time, and the ghost tour awesome we definitely saw orbs. We will sure stay here again

There are a couple of reasons why I chose to stay at this particular hotel. One reason is that I wanted to stay in a hotel that wasn't part of a chain....something with character. The fact that this hotel is billed as being haunted is the other reason. This hotel has definitely got character. The room we had was pretty and had touches of "old". It was clean and had a great view of the street. The room connected with the room that was said to have been Seth's room, but he didn't appear to be in attendance while we were there. Having said that though I DID hear something that was un-explainable and I felt something too. Shortly after I turned off the light to go to sleep I heard what sounded like pebbles hitting glass (we were up on the 3rd floor) and it could also be described as the sound that an old tube TV makes when cooling off. The room was not furnished with that kind of TV. I was also woken up twice during the night by what felt like the bed heating up under my hip. It was a real weird sensation and it's never happened to me elsewhere. I don't know if anyone else would think that those events were "ghostly" but I can say that they were un-explainable. This hotel is in a great location. Parking is behind the hotel and across the street but we found it to work well. If you want something with character this will work for you. If you want something new and updated you might want to pass on this one and stay down the road.

I did not care for this place at all. Stayed on 5/22/21 Staff was rude. They do not make you feel welcome at All. Room was dirty and dusty. Not worth 220.00 a night. Bathroom was the only thing clean which was nice. Paid $20.00 for the Haunted tour which I could not hear the tour guide half the time. The tour starts in the basement with speakers of music blaring. A lady asked her if she could turn the music down and she said No! She was very rude and I didn't hear most of what she was saying let alone her fast talking and looking at her watch because she had somewhere else to be when she was done.

Best picture of Seth Bullock's hotel ever.

The number 310 will forever be etched in my brain after the night of June 5, 2012. After a long drive through the craggy badlands of Western America, I arrived in Deadwood, South Dakota. Upon signing my name to the ledger I wandered the streets in search of nourishment. Luckily numerous establishments hawked their meals and I was able to find a spot for a peaty scotch and a bloody rare steak before turning in for the evening. Once sated I turned back to my domicile. There I shaved and donned my night garments. Nothing of interest was showing on the electric television. What a great invention from my compatriot, Philo T. Farnsworth. Unfortunately it failed me on this eve. Instead of watching a rousing game of baseball I lit my candle and settled in for an evening of reading my latest dime novel. It wasn't long after that I began to nod off. Morpheus, that wicked maester of dreams, had me in his cold, dark clutches and he had no thoughts of a simple release. A head filled with grog, I leaned to puff out my light but realized the wax was no longer burning. I did not think of leaving the window ajar yet there it was. Open, and a gusting. A wisp of smoke still dangling at an odd upwards angle from the smoldering yellow candle. A most obvious source of my current dark state. Yet... There was no chill in my room. That was to come later. I clutched my bedding to my chest, afraid that an intruder lurked in my domicile. Before I even began scamming the room he appeared at the foot of my bed. Thick handlebar mustached and wearing a 5 gallon hat, there he sat. A silver star pinned upon his chest. He stared into my eyes and even deeper into my soul. "Welcome to Deadwood," he intoned. Before I could respond my candle miraculously flamed again and the man was gone. My eyelids never closed again that night. The next morning I groggily wandered down to the front desk and tried to explain my story. "Well sir, that was Sheriff Seth Bullock and he's been dead for near a hundred years"....

Our room was not ready until 5:30. As we had just flown in from Florida, I really wanted to go to the room and change out of our travel clothing, but that was not an option. Our first afternoon in Deadwood was effectively ruined as there was nowhere to leave our bags and change clothing. The hotel was recently remodeled, so our rooms were very nice, and the mattresses were comfortable. The shower was fine although the water temperature fluctuated, and it was impossible to find the exact point that wasn't either too hot or too cold. The whole hotel vibrated constantly, which made a bunch of appliances in the room rattle or even make weirder noises. I had to leave the microwave door open because closed, the rattling was too loud for the kids to sleep. Breakfasts in the breakfast room were typical Hampton and quite good (for being free). Very friendly staff. Waffle machine with two flavor options and all sorts of different toppings, breakfast sausage, fried eggs, oatmeal, biscuits and gravy, toast and cereal. Juice and coffee. On our last day, there was no breakfast offered at Hampton. We were redirected to the restaurant at the Sheraton Four Points. Of course, that place wasn't open yet. And, once we arrived, they were not expecting us, and they wanted a coupon that had not been provided by the Hampton. Thankfully, it was just a short walk back to get things sorted, and thankfully, we weren't in a rush that morning, but still. Parking is across the street. It's through the casino. You need a new scan code each time you drive through, which comes from the front desk. Because of the delay in our check in, our parking was comped, but I believe it's about $15/day. The lot is long and narrow, and if there are big pick up trucks, it feels cramped and precarious.

Unfortunately, it was very loud as the suite was next to the laundry and housekeeping area. The highway was very loud next to our room. The lighting was poor. The best thing in the room was the comfy bed. The so called air freshener they pumped into the air was awful! I couldn't hang out in the Casino as the air freshener was toxic to my health. Made it hard to breathe or enjoy

The location within Deadwood is nice, in a central location for walking around the area's shops, casinos, and stores. I was able to easily explore the area on foot in the evenings. The hotel lobby looks nice and modern upon arrival (a good first start). Check-in was smooth. I had a room with a window that faced inside towards the lobby, which I was a little skeptical about at first but ended up being great because it reduced the potential for road noise that sometimes plagues hotels. I wasn't in my room much, so not having a window with natural light to the outside wasn't a problem. The room itself was clean and solid, with good space for spreading out belongings. I found it comfortable and quiet, a good place to sleep after a long day. Breakfast was perfect for what I wanted - a hearty meal with a number of options that I could fill up on before heading out for a day of hiking - eggs, sausage, cinnamon rolls, biscuits and gravy, some breads/muffins, oatmeal, pancakes, cereal. Parking is a couple minute walk away, in a parking lot with a gate. I didn't mind it since the weather was nice and I didn't have a lot of items to take back and forth. In other situations I can see how that could be bothersome. The hotel, since it is affiliated with the Gold Dust casino, also had a deal where you could get a coupon at the restaurant across the street along with some slot play for a discount. I expected to lose the money for slots (and I did), but it was a good excuse to check out the casino briefly.

After checking into my room, I grabbed a beer and went down to the sportsbook to make a bet. I took a seat to relax for a minute and put my beer down on the table in front of me. The bartender came over and asked if I wanted to order anything. I told him no. He then picked my beer up and said "We don't serve this beer here. You can't have outside beverages." He then threw the beer in the trash, said "There you go" and left. I was stunned. I couldn't believe that he did that. The proper way would have been, Sir, we don't allow outside beverages. I'd be happy to get you a beer that we serve. Had I have been this employees supervisor and had seen the way he treated a customer, I would have pulled him aside and immediately reprimanded him. This may be the rough and tumble town of Deadwood, but those were the old days. Surly bartenders are no longer the norm. Tourism keeps the town alive. This AL Swearengen wanna-be has singlehandedly succeeded in ruining my stay, and perhaps to the point where I won't stay at this Holiday Inn again. It's my suggestion, that if you stay here, think twice before you patronize the sportsbook bar. You may inadvertently tip someone who couldn't care less about you. Quick Tip: Wear your walking shoes. The way this building is set-up you'll be walking through a maze to find your way around. I had a great plate of Tortellini in the restaurant.

I would have liked for them to leave the TVs out, but I understand that, for hotels, they are basically as necessary as having a bed. I also waited to write this review until we'd stayed at another historical hotel down the road, for an apples to apples comparison. Staff were friendly and excited to share. We were shown to our room & given a small tour of the property, including the gorgeous ballroom, which was being set up for a private even. They've undergone restoration, not renovation. They've stayed period-correct & everything from the style to the furnishings reflect this. Rooms were quiet & clean. Our room was a shower only room. As I'm half mermaid, I like having a tub option but not a deal breaker. There was a tea cart out, which we found to be a nice touch without adding a lot of cost for them. We appreciated the addition of hallway seating nooks & spent time there daily. My favorite was the exit lighting (see pic), absolutely charming! What they did right comparatively: decor & hospitality throughout the stay. Staff were friendly & daily housekeeping was offered. On check-in we were asked where we came in from, what we were here for, with genuine interest and eye contact. The thought put into each furnishing was evident. So quiet, never a slamming door or loud guest. No odd odors! This is HUGE in a property of this age, when the surfaces have soaked up a hundred years of cigarettes & other stenches! Parking lot is attached with guest spots reserved- no 2 block hike to the car lot for any item you've forgotten. What needed improvement comparatively: communication. The pre-arrival info only made sense after checking in. Arrival was a bit odd, nothing to indicate we were in the right place. We roamed the casino a bit, then approached the bar for assistance. The barkeep was also the innkeeper & only one working. My husband drove around d/t no parking signage. At check-in, the cone stystem was explained & it's actually a really good system! I would definitely stay here again.
