I had a late birthday dinner (around 8:00pm) with my family and strolled across from our hotel (the Franklin) to Rocksino. I love seafood and was psyched to see shrimp boil on the menu and ordered it with a side of macaroni and cheese. The shrimp boil consisted of shrimp, potato, sausage, and topped with some Cajun seasoning I believe. It was throughly cooked but lacked the butter, seasoning, and the corn. The macaroni and cheese tasted familiarly like Velvetta cheese which is unfortunate because I love mac and cheese but dislike Velveeta. My son ordered a burger and fries and he said it was good. read more

The staff was very pleasant. The hotel itself is very unique and clean. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because there is no parking and it's difficult to find/navigate the entrance if you've never been there before. Location is great! read more

The room have been remodel and have kept a feel of the original building. High ceilings and 2" thick doors add to a great feel. Large big screen television and a great bathroom make the room complete. Elevators work well and were never over crowded or made for a long wait. Casino is right off the elevator with a great surround bar. Restaurant is outside on the the patio and the chairs are metal and a bit hard to move. Staff were friendly and polite. I do think they need some type of security onsite as all entrances are open to public. read more

I struggle... the old Hickok was the place we always met and had late night pizza... they have become part of Hard Rock... so okay the updated bar is cool and our service from Rob was really good, but the pizza came out luke warm and smaller. We we're on a bus trip and this was recommended by one of our drivers. Evidently he gets quite a kickback from this place. We spent over an hour just waiting to get a sandwich and a cup of soup. We got to see absolutely nothing of Deadwood. Other than the bus tour, we were not able to walk downtown because it took so long to get our lunch. So be very careful about stopping to eat here. It's not the waitstaff's fault. It's management's fault for not having enough workers for the amount of people in a tourist town. Beware after colleges open up again in the Fall because the kids go back to school. Service is very very slow. read more

We stayed two nights at Hickok's hotel and casino in Deadwood, where everyone has capitalized on ole' Wild Bill. Our room in this historic hotel is nicely appointed with high ceilings, dark wood baseboard and trim, and a jetted tub in the bathroom, which my husband enjoyed. Our air conditioner was stuck on 69.4 degrees and could not be changed. The front desk clerk said they've been having trouble with it and new owners in the fall will make changes to the hvac system. Outlaw Square is across the street, where a stage with live music happens all day. You can order pizza in the bar, but there is no restaurant. I went into the gift shop and the clerk followed me around, so I left without purchasing anything. There is no parking area, so you have to park in a lot across the street for $1 an hour between the hours of 8am and 10 pm. I think they forgot to mention that. Restaurants and shops are nearby and walkable. read more

This casino was probably my favorite on our most recent trip to Deadwood. It had a couple of things going for it. Number one, as soon as I sat down I was asked if I wanted a drink. Number two, it had one of my favorite games. We had great service in the morning from Susan and great service from Melody in the evening. The servers at the other casinos need to take lessons from Melody and Susan. They know that a happy customer is a returning customer. read more

Wanted to stay here for the history factor. Room and bathroom both ok and up to date, except for the old TV but we didn't watch it anyway. Two things, the street noise is prominent if your room faces main street like ours did. Also, woke up burning up and turning the air down as low as it would go was useless. My only complaint for this place is that the hostess has no clue about how to seat people. maybe she's just helping out. The restaurant has a mining theme. it's quite unique. portion is quite big. had sautee mushroom as appetizer steak and rib both are very good. steak is cooked right to medium rare and the sauce for the rib is great. come with salad and side dishes. price is reasonable, food comes quickly and service is good. read more

On our 6000 mile road trip, this was one of the highlight surprises. The price and the room are a great match. We had a king suite. Clean, non-smoking room with two sleeping areas. The suite had a fantastic WC with a bathtub and skylight. Room was comfortable in both temperature and decor. Loved the location and the experience. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Wow no wonder gambling is not what it used to be in deadwood. Have never been treated so rudely by multiple casino employees as at hickocks on 9/15/18. Tried putting a 20 in machine and didn't work put service light on waited 45 minutes and then went and asked cashier why no service and told that light means nothing and to go ask girls at pizza counter. Finally got one of the girls to put her cell phone down and come help me and then was called a f%#ing bitch for needing her to come to my slot. What a joke. Will never spend another sent at hickocks. All employees there need some customer service training and this really over all reflects poorly on deadwood. One star only because you have to give star to review read more

Stayed for three nights in room 301. I was surprised how large the room was for a historic hotel. Also it was extremely sound proof for being on the street side. The bathroom is large and has a jetted tub. Towels are softer than normal hotel towels. The mattress did not hurt my back like most hotels do. The room darkening blinds were nice and the entire decor was period correct. Hotel staff are very nice. Pizza looked good but we didn't try. My only criticism is wanting better wi-fi which rarely worked on the top floor. Oh and the tv desperately needs upgraded as it appears to be dying. But the extra usb connectors were very helpful on the nightstand. A couple technical comforts would improve the appeal of this historic hotel. read more

My girlfriend and I meet in Deadwood once a year and have stayed at almost all of the hotels. But from now on we will always stay at the Hickok. Everything was very clean, employees were very nice and helpful, the food was very good, and we appreciated that no one entered our room while we were there. We had a junior suite and the jacuzzi was a real treat. Wish there were more stars to give!!!! read more

Hotel right on Main St in Deadwood, very nicely appointed room for a very low price (under $90). Above the Hickoks Casino, in a very cool historic building with great views of the downtown Deadwood area. Parking is offered two blocks away in a garage, but is covered by the hotel, a nice bonus. Deadwood is not for everyone -- it wasn't for me, I was expecting lots of old west history and got lots of dumpy casinos with some western motifs on the walls -- but my hotel was very nice. read more

This place is darling! Very friendly staff are here to make you feel welcome and relaxed. I mean it; the bartender actually brought our pizza up to our room instead of calling us to come and get it! The room where we stayed was so cozy, pretty and well appointed, giving the place a charming old time feel. It's a great find! read more

The steak was fine, but the portion of the sides were silly. Three forkfuls of corn and a slice of a baked sweet potato?! Normal baked potatoes were served whole to the others in the group. Service was slow at first. Maybe being at 8pm on a Wednesday night had something to do with it. read more

I patronized this casino along with my service dog and was given the third degree by an uneducated employee who claims her boss says I'm required to have identification for my service dog. This is against ADA guidelines. I tried to educate her and she hovered awhile making me feel uncomfortable, I left shortly thereafter. Please educate your employees on federal ADA guidelines. read more

Really good pizza located inside a casino. You can eat there, or take it to go, which we did take a pizza back to our hotel room. A medium pizza- 2 topping is $14, a large-2 topping is $16, additional toppings are $1. This pizza is good! We ordered a large pepperoni with mushrooms and pineapple. My husband and I took a road trip for our honeymoon and really wanted to go to Deadwood for a night. The night we got in, Deadwood (and western SD) was hit with a blizzard and we were snowed in for two more days. Many of the casinos, restaurants and shops were closed because either employees couldn't make it in or there was no power. The staff at Hickok's took amazing care of us and everyone else that was stuck in Deadwood. They were all so friendly and helpful, despite how tired they must have been from working long hours to cover shifts. I was truly impressed by their customer service. The room we stayed in the first night was beautiful. It had two big windows that looked out onto Main Street. We moved into another room for the second and third nights, which had a cozy fireplace and was equally as nice. We plan on making it back out to Deadwood again (in the summertime!) and will be sure to book our stay at Hickok's! read more

We stayed at their hotel above the casino. The rooms were large, for being downtown, and they validate your parking. The staff is friendly and the room has bathrobes with a jetted tub. They even let us check in a little early since we made it in town sooner than expected. We will stay here next year. read more

My husband and I tried this place one night on our vacation and I was really disappointed. It looked great and the menu sounded good. But when my food arrived, just ugh. I ordered a steak and it was actually very good. I like rare meat and it was still mooing, perfectly aged, tender and flavorful. What made me sad was the tiny pile of what was either canned or frozen corn and a tiny way overcooked baked potato. I mean, come on. If you're going to serve a magnificent piece of meat, accompany it with a few steamed veggies - some carrots, broccoli, green beans... anything. I can do them at home. It's easy. I promise. It just felt like a half-assed dinner and I'm only giving it this many stars for the meat. I wouldn't recommend it and I won't return unless they attempt to make a meal, not just a steak. read more

This place was a great way to end our 10 day cross country trip. We stayed 3 nights with our 3 teenagers. We stayed in the executive suite, PERFECT! Much needed break. Very clean and tastefully done to recapture the time period. We could see the gun fight outside of our window. read more
