This review is for the bar area and the food only as I did not stay in the hotel, only enjoyed a couple local beer and better than expected Mexican food. Historically, Deadwood Dick, is a fictional hero type character that appeared in dime store novels around the end of the 19th century. The name became synonymous with the now famous town and several of the residents used it as a moniker. The woman behind the bar was absolutely great, I forget her name, but she was helpful and funny just the way you want bar staff to be. We sat at the bar and she recommended and then let us sample a few localish beer before we made our selection. We tried the fish tacos and a huge burrito (you could literally stand it up like a tower!), I think the Mexican food theme was new, but neither dish disappointed my travel companion and I. They had ice cream available as well. The decor of the bar is kitsch and they were playing this karaoke style music channel on the TV. The music was a mix of old country and 60's-70's rock and the walls were covered in semi-hilarious signs offering advice (sometimes cowboy style) about life or men or how men are terrible at life. The type of stuff you would expect to see at your grand parents cottage, especially at Canadian cottages of that manner. The rest of the first floor is like a giant museum of things for sale, like a pawn shop, and also the traditional tourist grab stuff of Deadwood t-shirts and ton of motorcycle related stuff. I'd stop back in here no problem, loved the hospitality! read more

Great Vintage Hotel right above three floors of antiques and a bar and restaurant. Owned by individual, Mary, not a corporation. She was very polite, attentive and accommodating. Check in is not until 3pm but I showed up at 9am. She stored my luggage in secure area so I could go travel while the room was being readied. Nice fresh of breath air having owner on premise. Best value in lodging in Deadwood. Bar and restaurant staff were very friendly and excellent service. Already planning on being back here next year read more

Sometimes it makes sense to get off of Main Street and see what's going on. We had comfortable outdoor seating with a cordial server. We watched the world (and bikers) go by. The chicken bronco sandwich with a crispy bun was excellent just as the cole slaw, steak fries and BLT was. Also delicious was the chickenwrap, The Stella on tap was fresh and inviting. Loved this place. read more

The rooms are adorable. Not enough outlets but it's an old hotel. Not a bad staff. Friendly. Hotel so far is a four star! Lost a star for food. Ordered philly sandwich and it was dry and meat was burnt. Worst I have ever had! read more

Deadwood Dick's Hotel - Really small cheesesteak sandwich. Caution half the meat falls out the back of sandwich! Rings were good though - Hotels Near Me - Deadwood, South Dakota

Spacious. Comfortable beds. Solid WiFi. Adrenaline-inducing elevator. Everything I need from a hotel.

A very pleasant stay, clean room and priced well. We stayed at the 2 room suite which was very large and almost felt like an apartment - and the kitchenette was a very pleasant surprise! Loved the funky elevator and antique shop below. Overall we were all happy and enjoyed our time in this hotel. read more

What a great nostalgic place to stay! Yes, the rooms are a little run down and the beds aren't the best, but it is a great hotel, down to the original elevator! The staff is helpful and friendly. The BEST burgers too!! read more

Great restaurant - Bob, head chef is a great addition to this place, had a Reuben sandwich and burger, crinkle cut fries and hash browns - the corned beef was the best I've ever had, so tender and flavorful. The marble rye was great! The patty on the burger was hand made, both were $10 each. The atmosphere is a hole in the wall but look past that. Will definitely be back! read more

I think this place has potential, but our visit on July 5th where the bar was essentially empty as I am sure the July 4th party-ers were home nursing hangovers. As I mentioned potential and a ton of character! The antique shop that was adjoining is one a person could have spent a couple hours looking at stuff. The bartender, Jamaican exchange student, greeted us and got beers up right away. We looked over the menu and chose wings, chicken fingers and onion rings. Ahhhh greasy goodness! The food arrived fairly quickly and was anything but gourmet. Nonetheless, I dug in with gusto, since I too was a little hungover! A good spot to stop for a couple beers, have a look around and keep moving. The tab was inexpensive and a pleasant although not surprising, finish to the start of a Sunday pub crawl around Deadwood. Be sure to check it out! read more

My husband wanted something light to eat and instead he ordered the haystack burger. The toothpick which held it together was bigger than our silverware. He said it was great and only shared the fries! I had the pork chop it was also very good. We also took a plain hamburger to go. Grill marks charcoal taste. Nothing better. Thank you. read more

For the value, you really can't beat this place. The rooms were huge, as were the beds. Sure, you have to operate an antique elevator, but the friendly staff show you how to operate the elevator on your way to your room. If you freak out every time you have to learn something new, then this probably isn't a good place. But I thought it was an especially interesting, comfortable and affordable place to stay. I did not have the opportunity to enjoy the bar or any food. read more

We stayed here for one night in the summer while sightseeing in the area. Staff was really nice and friendly. The hotel provided Wi-Fi and the room we stayed in had a lot of character, with a big king sized bed, and a huge picture window overlooking the area. Room also had a TV with cable. The attached antique store was just ok. Did not try the restaurant. Overall a nice enough place to stay. A bit run down, but very nice staff. read more

Man, that chef is really a jerk! Haha, just kidding...the food is awesome and the service is great. Mike and Kat have really done an amazing job bringing some fun and creative food to Deadwood. read more

surprisingly good food, nice selection of beer, attentive staff ... and when you're finished you can wander around looking at the antiques next door. It's a nice change from the places on Main St. read more

Stopped in to check out their antiques. Three stories of antiques! Decided to grab lunch. Our bartender/waitress (Kat) was very attentive, friendly and the food was delicious. Hats off to the chef and we will be going back again. read more

Loved, loved, loved this hotel! My husband and I visited Deadwood recently and decided to try a hotel that wasn't the same as all chain hotels/motels! This definitely fit the bill! It was priced just right, the lady that checked us in was wonderful! The room was clean, and best of all was the elevator to the fourth floor...it was amazing! For an old building, the whole thing was taken care of! If you want something different and full of character...this is it!!! read more

Wow, extremely rude staff. Had a burger was so so. Has a cool store attached, that is worth one star.

Poor service and rude staff ruined our experience. Wish I could say the food and drink were better...but it wasn't.

Don't let the thrift store look turn you off. The food is great and the drinks are cold. Patio seating is a plus. Off of the beaten path by a block or two and worth the visit! read more

We have stayed here 3 times now. It is usually the cheapest room in Deadwood. I like it. OLD building with lots of character, old elevator makes you feel like a Western pioneer! Beds are comfy and nice. Wifi worked well. Nice tv. It is older and does not have some comfort creatures found in other hotels. In room supplemental heaters were great! Could be a little cleaner and better kept but it didn't bother me at all, my wife would disagree! She would prefer a different room in Deadwood next time we go. I would say "give it a try!" if you need a room in Deadwood within easy walking distance to most I town attractions Never ate here so no opinion on the food. read more

I took a friend there, no one was in there. It took a bit to get waited on. The food was later so we took it to go. That was mistake #2, #1 was get a restaurant gift card for there. Went to pay a burrito with gauc and BLT with onion rings. Brought the bill and it was $18.64 still even after taking burrito $9.99 off for restaurant.com coupon. Total was close to $30, can you say OVER CHARGED. $30 WOW I let owner know what happened, they refunded only 18.64 so I had to eat the rest of the money- $8 for gift card. I will not go back. Food was not homemade and if it was I am leaving home. So if I could leave a negative star, I would. Crying shame because I love Mexican food. read more

Polite and fast service. The food was good and the portions are big in my opinion. So your not wasting your money.

This place was horrid. I love historical hotels and this one was definitely "historical". Came to Deadwood for a girls weekend. Checking in the lady Mary was nice and the lady who showed us to the room was nice as well. That was the only nice I can say about the place. We got to our room which was ice cold and was told the heat was in the closet of our 2 bedroom apartment suite. By heat they meant a plug in heater. The room was dirty and bathroom was dirty. The window in the bathroom was missing the top half and had been covered by a sheet of plywood and was blowing cold air into bathroom. The boiler system heat didn't work in one room at all. The plug in heater kept overheating and error messages. There was not a security lock on door and there were chips around latch where room has been broken into before. We were in the 4th floor side past a smoking area. Someone had thrown up right by the entrance to our area and it was dried puke noone bothered to clean up. Our neighbors were obviously smoking pot as the hallway shared with them reeked of skunks. We ended up sleeping together in the same bed for warmth and protection for fear of someone breaking into our room while sleeping. Woke up to several additional guests in our room of the stinging variety. Wasps were dive bombing us as we were trying to escape the room. Breakfast buffet was half price of $5 but not worth the price and was nauseated for hours after eating there. NEVER ever stay there again. read more

Don't stay here. We stayed during ralley week to try and same some money. Will NEVER do that again. Would be significantly better to spend a little or even a lot more and have a better place to stay. The staff was rude and unhelpful at check in. The majority of the plug ins did not work. It's old I get it but it smells so bad that the smell follows you after you leave. Beds were alright but the description lead us to believe there was more than one bathroom, there's not. Not well cleaned before we checked in. Whatever you do run the other way we were miserable. read more

We had to cancel our reservation at another hotel when they wouldn't take our pets. So we drove around a little and stopped at this funky and historical hotel, Deadwood Dick's. Not only did they WELCOME our pit bull and cat, there was no additional charge for our fur kids and THEN they upgraded us to a bigger room with a gorgeous view of the town! Rates were so reasonable and we were so happy there we stayed a night longer. Staff was really courteous and friendly. Deadwood Dick's has tons of unique character, and their pet policy is one of the best I've ever seen. Loved it here!! read more

This place was great! We stumbled upon it during our cross country move with our 2 dogs and 2 cats. Mostly we had been staying in Super8's or Red Roof Inn's as these are the only places that will allow pets. Lucky for us Deadwood Dicks had a room for all 4 of our furry kids, and it was NICE! I'd like to believe that it was haunted, but we didn't see anything and the pets aren't talking. We arrived late, and got a "Late Arrival" email as the staff gets to leave at 7pm (lucky). The instructions were very detailed and easy to follow, and we found our room no problem, after riding up in an old school elevator! I loved the decor of the room, and the A/C pumped out nice and cool. The next morning we went down to the cafe/antique shop, and the guy who helped us was very friendly and helpful. He even gave us a suggestion as to where to stop next along our journey (Rochester, MN). Thank you Deadwood Dicks for letting us have a unique, comfortable, and fun time along our roadtrip! When people ask where we liked best, I've been saying Deadwood! read more

Clean and eclectic, where other hotels had gambling machines on the first floor, they have an antique store. Our room was clean and simple. Be sure to close the 1920s elevator doors or no one else will be able to use it. Interesting place and great location. read more

If you are looking for a place to stay in Deadwood DO NOT stay at Deadwood Dicks! The people who own and run this establishment are extremely rude and money hungry. I recently booked two rooms for two nights. Their policy is that once you book a room you cannot cancel it without paying for one nights cost per room. My boyfriend was in a bad horse accident the weekend before we were supposed to go to Deadwood and ended up having emergency surgery. I called to see what I had to do to cancel our reservation. I was told that I would have to pay the $220 for the cost of the two rooms for one night. After talking to the owner, she said that if I called booking. Com and cancelled my rooms, she would try to fill them so that she could refund my money. After several days I called to see if they had any available rooms and was told that they were full for the weekend. I called the owner (Mary) to see if that was true, excited that I might get my money back. She told me that rooms I had booked had been booked for Saturday, but not Friday so I would still have to pay the $220. I told her that I would just come up and stay Friday since I already had paid for it. (Curious as to what she would say). At this point she became very mad and said that if I came Friday, I would also have to pay for Saturday?? I asked how is that since you have it booked with someone else?? She couldn't answer that, started yelling at me on the phone and eventually hung up on me. Come to find out, they booked my rooms both Friday and Saturday and are still refusing to refund me my money. This means that they are getting paid twice for two of their rooms, once by me and then by whoever they booked them with the second time. It amazes me how people take advantage of others in difficult times. read more

I reserved a room for 2 nights, Sept 5 and 6th of this month. They gave us room 409. On the second day I woke up itching all over. You guessed it, I was bit by bed bugs. Mary, the owner did refund my money for the room but they rented that room the that same night. read more

My husband and I spent Christmas at Deadwood Dick's and loved it. The hotel has a charm that seems to emanate from the town itself. The building is wonderfully old, and the view from our 4th floor room was incomparable. Two windows looked out to the very steep snow-covered hill which flanks the town on one side, and the other window overlooked downtown Deadwood. The windows are huge and seem original to the building- again, more history and magic. Deadwood sits across the street from an excellent, well-appointed museum and is within walking distance to, well, everything. My highest recommendation for adventurers and lovers of architecture and history. read more

Deadwood DICK's certainly lives up to their name. We stayed at the hotel for Labor Day weekend. The first 2 nights were great. BUT, then we received a nasty voicemail from the owner, Mary. She proceeded to accuse us of hiding our dog in the room (which apparently was not pet friendly) and we had to leave immediately. WOW! Really?!? We had already been there 2 nights and our dog's food and water bowls, kennel, etc. had all been left in the room in plain sight when the housekeeper came in the previous day. And, the hotel is advertised as pet friendly on booking.com. The kicker...we would not be refunded the $250.00 we had already paid for the 3rd night, because we didn't follow the pet policy. Staff was extremely rude!! AND even more of a kicker, they re-booked our room that same night. Deadwood DICK's was double dipping. Trying to take our $250.00 and then get another $250.00 by booking the room again after we left. We booked through booking.com and nowhere in the hotel policies was there anything about the pet policy. In fact it was hidden in some other place on the website, which according to booking.com is against their website policy. We were immediately refunded our $250.00 NOT by Deadwood DICK's, but by booking.com. BEWARE, Deadwood DICK's runs a shady business and on top of being shady, Little Ms. Mary and her staff are very rude! DO NOT STAY AT DEADWOOD DICK's, they may call the police on you. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. We were looking forward to a nice trip with our 5 year old who was stoked beyond belief to go to South Dakota for our summer vacation to hunt for gold. Long story short, life happens. The day before the trip we have a family emergency and are all of a sudden staring at the front door of the Mayo Clinic. With all the chaos and panic of the day we space having the reservation until later in the afternoon. When I called to cancel it was about 530pm and the lady that answered was very friendly and willing to try help us out. She said she would have to talk to the owner about letting us cancel the room since it was just a day before the reservation and to call back in a half hour. Well when I called back it was the owner herself that answered. Let me tell ya, she is a real winner. I understand being a small, privately owned business and having to make a living, but fuck lady. She said since its "an event weekend" the room probably wouldn't book and she would be out the money. (Doesn't make sense to me either if it's supposed to be a busy weekend) Anyways, I asked if I could get a refund, I asked if I could get a partial refund, I tried asking if I could rebook for a different weekend and still got the response that she'd be out the money. This lady is like talking to a brick wall. I finally gave up. Enjoy my $450. I'll figure out a way to explain to the kid why our summer vacation has to be at a Minnesota hospital rather than panning for gold and exploring caves because our hotel money is gone. read more
