Really great experience. Received a text message with codes for the front door, room door, and parking information. Didn't have to see a person at all, which is great for someone like me lol Others may not appreciate the impersonal nature of the transaction as much as I did. Room was large, bed was huge and comfortable, linens smelled fresh. Furnishings were suitable for the theme of the Inn. Breakfast was adequate- yogurt, fruit, some packaged muffins, mini bagels, juice and coffee. Perfectly fine. You should be made aware when you book, but there's no elevator so you're carrying your bags up those steps (see my pics). We were here at the end of September during some sort of freak heat wave and the poor little window AC was doing its best to keep up. I was comfortable; my husband was hot. I just appreciated they had AC at all. It's just a very large room with high ceilings to try to cool with a small unit. read more

So far, so good! I just checked in and will update as the day goes on. Very clean - smells great, even with huge amount of antiques. Very sweet check-in with Sue. Quiet little street (I'm a city girl) - can see Mine from window looking out front of 2nd story. If you are from the country, you will think it is a highway out front. I lived by the freeway in MN so this is quiet to me. Room has everything a girl needs, except food - and that is walking distance. On second look, there is coffee and water in the lobby. You can probably find a muffin or tangerine in the fridge if you want a little snack. Cute little park area (very small, think tiny mountain town) across the street to walk dogs. I loved this place! I stayed in the "Vault Room" and absolutely loved how large (super high ceilings and huge floor plan), clean, and cozy (great, personal touches) the room was. This place has all the modern amenities (wifi, tv, etc.). My room had a mini-fridge, microwave, luggage rack, hangers, coffee maker and cups, fan, extra space heater, and many more items. Plus, I have to rave about the bed, wow, this was probably the best sleep I have had all year-- what type of magical bed is that? Is it like part memory foam? I loved the king bed. Additionally, as a single lady in Lead (waiting for my friends to arrive) I felt very safe here. The Town Hall locks their doors at night and gives you a passkey to enter back in, which made me feel extra safe and secure. On top of all this, they offer free breakfast, I never tried it, but I think its awesome that its offered! Uhh... so one thing I will add, something spooky happened to me in my room on my second night alone in Lead. I was laying in my bed, on my phone scrolling ready to fall asleep, when all of a sudden the picture on the wall just randomly fell off at 2AM. I turned the lights on and checked to see what happened. The nail was still in the wall and nothing was wrong with the picture, so I am not sure how it randomly fell off the nail... and it was 2AM, everyone in the building was definitely asleep (nobody slammed a door or anything). To be completely honest, I don't believe in the paranormal and I definitely choose to believe that ghosts are not around me. However, this occurrence left me a changed person and I found myself randomly talking out loud (to whatever) stating things like: "please come back later";"don't scare me as I am alone";"you picked the wrong room, go see someone else" etc. Probably the weirdest thing happened the next morning while I was checking out... the man at the front desk asked if anything "visited me" last night/if there was any occurrences.. and I nearly died. I did tell him about the picture and how I didn't hang it back up because I was too scared it would keep falling back down. Anyways, I'd stay again! Probably a different room because I don't want to be visited by anything or anybody lol. Overall, I loved this place and would encourage everybody to stay here if they are in the area. read more

What a wonderful old restored building. We are a couple of history buffs and love this kind of place. We were only in town for one night. We pulled up and were met by the owner. Quick, friendly check in. Room was very neat and clean. Bathroom was spotless. We arrived past 8:00 pm. Mark suggested a local restaurant which we went to. Great food. So with full bellies we got into a clean comfortable bed and slept like a couple of logs. Air conditioner was ice cold. The Town Hall rates a solid 5 stars. I would stay here again and highly recommend that you also stay here. read more

My husband and I reserved The Vault room for 1 night but we were unaware that the room had no air conditioning nor that we would have to carry our luggage up a enormously long stairway to our room. We got to the room and saw a box fan in the window which was not at all what we expected. We also were not impressed with the single table on the first floor that was to be used for the continental breakfast for the entire inn. We didn't feel the Inn gave a welcoming appearance from either the outside or the first floor entry. We ended up leaving and finding a nice hotel in Deadwood. That was an expensive learning experience! read more

Awesome stay in Lead the other night! Happened upon this little gem on Hotels.com and thought we'd give it a go. It is truly a piece of history and opposite the historic "cut" and close to restaurants and bars! The decor was lovely and the hosts were accommodating! I highly recommend a stay. My only regret? We didn't stay more than one night. read more

Absolutely PERFECT. We stayed in the "Prosecutor's Room" and it as perfect for two people. The place used to be the old town hall, built at the turn of the century, so all the doors say things like "Prosecutor's Room," or "Defense's Room," and so forth with transoms and extremely high ceilings in the rooms. Spotless. The little things are what made it so nice. Plastic cute wine glasses, cute, old retro lamps and Melamac little plates for snacks, simple ceramic mugs for your coffee instead of styrofoam, and the owner, Mark, provided us a corkscrew and knife for our cheese we bought. Cute little retro mini fridge, and our room was right next to a coffee bar that was in the hallway sitting on an old retro Hot Point stove, which was the cutest thing. The place is well insulated, because as the hotel was booked, I never heard a peep from any of the other guests. If you're into boutique hotels, history, and antiques this is for you. If you're just into "new" things or contemporary style, this is not for you. Plus, this hotel is right next to the Stamp Mill, which is fun for a few drinks or trivia, then you can walk up and check out the historic Opera House which is an amazing restoration. Then walk a little further and you can check out a cute Mom and Pop brewery. All of this is so much quainter, quieter, and old world than staying over in gaudy Vegas-style Deadwood, any day. I recommend you drive around the tiny postage stamps homes that are on San Francisco-style grades, whew, so make sure your brakes are in good condition. It's fascinating to see how all the old row houses were built for the Homestake miners back in the day. read more

We spent 3 nights in this lovely, clean, historic Inn. It was a great space to call home base while we explored South Dakota. We stayed in the Auditor's Office/room, which has high ceilings and a full kitchen, although we only used the sink and the fridge. It was convenient having an extra sink in the room. The room is off the main lobby but was very quiet! I wake up early and rarely heard any muffled voices. My husband slept till 9 and didn't wake up even though he's a light sleeper. But even more convincing that the room was sound proof is that the city was doing road construction right outside the Inn. Barely heard the heavy equipment they were using. Again, my husband slept right through it as well as a heavy thunderstorm one morning. Internet is super fast. The best we had on our 2 week road trip. The owner(s) were the best. We talked with Mark all 3 days we were there. Then because of my own forgetfulness, I got to talk to him the next day, too. I realized I forgot a bag in one of the dresser drawers. He immediately sent it to me and I got it the same time I arrived home in California. We'd definitely stay here again if we find ourselves in western South Dakota. read more

We spent three nights at this great historic Inn. Paul, Mark and Eileen made us feel at home the whole time, going above and beyond to make us feel welcome and make our stay a wonderful one. If your going to be spending some time in the Black Hills of SD, don't go to Deadwood, SD (3 miles away), stay at the Town Hall Inn in Lead, SD. My wife and I have covered over 2000 miles on our Harley on this trip, we've stayed in a lot of hotels and this was the best so far and will be hard to beat. read more

It's clean and historic. The rooms are all named by their functions as the town hall so that was kind of fun. There are some nice restaurants in walking distance. They offer some coffee and store bought danish for breakfast. Rooms are quiet. My only complaint was that the windows don't open so we had to run a window unit air conditioner all night (fan noise) and it was in the 40s outside but the heat of the building's interior made the room too hot. read more

We loved our stay at the town hall inn. We stayed in the mayors room, the room was very clean, tidy, very high ceilings and Windows, King bed, and a good working AC on the sweltering weekend that we visited. Matt was a very gracious host and made sure to check in and see if we had everything we needed, he also gave great tips on what to do around town. My boyfriend and I felt the light breakfast of cakes, muffins, Danishes, fresh fruit, optional instant oatmeal, and coffee perfect to start our mornings out as most of our lunches/dinners were huge. We have been back from our vacation to South Dakota for one week and cannot stop thinking about how wonderful it was. We had been wanting to travel to South Dakota after watching Governor Noem's commercials and the trip was so much more than what we expected. Above all, I am so happy that Town Hall Inn popped up on my Google search when searching for lodging. I vividly remember the day we checked in standing beside our car looking up and down the street in Lead and thinking what a sweet little town it is. This little hotel could not have been more perfect for us. We stayed in the Municipal Judges Chambers and looked forward to coming back to our room as much as we looked forward to getting out and sightseeing. We like to travel so I'm not sure that we'll be back in the area again but would without a doubt stay here again. It was perfectly located to make all of our sightseeing within an hour and a half east or west. Jailhouse Taps Is located in the basement area and was a perfect place to unwind at the end of the day. I am so grateful they even had nonalcoholic beer to offer! We enjoyed getting to know the staff in there and they were so helpful in recommending attractions that we should go see in the area. This was a great find in Lead, SD. Mark treated us as if we were family and was very helpful. The Town Hall is a beautifully redone 1900's building and each room is very clean and homey. It made for a very comfortable and quiet night and great sleeping. Mark was very attentive and shared his private cellar of micro brewed beer, which was delicious. My boyfriend and I booked this place on priceline app. They were very generous and called us to make sure if we were checking in. We gave them a heads up on when we were coming (we were the last people to be check in because we were coming In Late). Our truck almost broke down and they tried every possible way to help us. Met Mark and his brother; they were very sweet people. Hotel was nice and clean! It reminded me of a small mini apartment. Sleeping was very comfortable.- although I wished they had hotter showers, but overall the stay was nice :) I would go back again. read more

A charming, historic building that has been nicely restored and refurbished as a small hotel. Location in downtown Lead is quiet and a great base for seeing the Northern Hills. This is a Mom and Pop operation and they couldn't be better hosts with local information or a screwdriver for a quick ski repair. read more

It was so nice to grab a cup of coffee and a roll and sit on the porch on a beautiful September Sunday morning. I don't know why anyone would travel to this historic and naturally beautiful area and opt to stay in a modern, chain hotel when The Town Hall Inn is an option.
