Honestly when I was there, the hotel was ok for the price. Nothing fancy, but ok for a few days as a work trip. I booked through expedia. The reason for my bad rating. When I checked out they said expedia will provide receipt. When I was home expedia said I should ask the hotel. I emailed from two different email addresses- no response. I called twice 2 and 4 days after my stay, and each time they said will do it soon, maybe spam filter, just excuses but no receipt. I checked and had emails from previous stays there. Now they won't provide anything and I am stuck and won't get reimbursed. Update a week later. With the help of expedia support I finally got some pdf. However it is not ítemized, the room charges are not consistent with expedia prices or what I was charged, and what was shown as taxes or property fees is all mixed up together. This new management is far from professional, and if you need to stay for business and rely on their work - STAY AWAY. read more

Showers been cold for 3 days, a Hornets nest in windows frame and they wouldn't move us to another room or give us credit so we could leave. 3 Stars...Average. We stayed a total of 4 nights, and were in a double suite (sleeper sofa). Overall, we enjoyed our stay there. The room was ok, nice and spacious. It had a mini fridge and microwave. The hotel had guest laundry available also. It broke during our stay, but was repaired in a couple of days. The AC was more of a window unit, and when on ran all the time. It was rather loud. The room was either warm or pretty chilly. They do serve a hot breakfast, however, it was the same exact thing everyday. Eggs, sausage and hash browns. To be honest, the food was not great. Thank goodness there was a waffle maker. That's what we primarily ate. Hotel also had a bar/lounge as well. The hotel is in a great location, not to far from many attractions. The rates are very reasonable. We would probably stay again, but just because of location and rates. If you are a person that spends a lot of time at your hotel when traveling, I probably wouldn't recommend. read more

This was one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in, I don't understand why it has so many good reviews. The good things are the location, the service (front desk staff very friendly), and the price. I should have known right there at the $50 price point not to book this hotel. The room however sucked. It had a very low ceiling that was in some areas water stained and looked like the ceiling tiles were about to fall down. The pillows on the bed were disgusting, stained and yellowed. i stayed at the hotel this past weekend, i wasn't going to mention the make up on the hand towels, bathtub being dirty or the ice machine not working all weekend....until i did a little gambling in their bar/casino and they refused to honor my ticket that i won $244! i won @ 12:11am went to bed and went downstairs to cash in my ticket the next morning @ 8am, was told that it could not be validated that it had expired @ 2am. this means that if i had won @ 1:59am went to the desk, i would then have to call to get someone to come to the desk because they are rarely there, that by the time they went to cash it, it would have been after 2am and expired. how is this legal?? how many other guests have they ripped off like this??? i have called the department of revenue and the lottery commission both on them. beware people!!! read more

DO NOT STAY HERE! I booked on Expedia a few months ago for a king room with pets for 2 nights for $160. Upon arriving today, I was told I couldn't have that room because pets were only allowed in a double bed rooms. I said ok that would be fine. The desk clerk said she had to cancel my Expedia reservation and book the new one. Again that was fine. Upon rebooking my cost is $460! I had no other choice as the vacation towns hotels were booked. Once getting into my room, the bathroom has chipped paint, torn screen on windows, splattered paint on the floor and the room in general is tiny and unclean. My room was not cleaned up or restocked while we were out prior to the 2nd night. The included breakfast was only mini bagels, weak coffee and orange juice. read more

Booked this room for 5 days at about 75 bucks a day. It was a great value. Rooms were clean, bed very comfortable. My only knock on the room was the lack of counterspace adjacent to the sink. That and the decor color doesn't blend well. Those are the only things that could use help. I'd stay here again. Staff was great! read more

Arrived there to find black mold, toe nail clippings, a gummy bear, and an old plastic Easter egg. Complained to the front desk where they said they would show us another room. This other room was even dirtier. Asked for a refund as we were in the room for five minutes. No one there was able to process a refund. They gave us the managers number and email. She refuses to answer any of them. The manager is supposedly "Cindy Taylor" who is a made up name. Went there multiple days in a row after we were promised the manager would be there the next day. Third day of going there, the police were called on us. Police officer stated they get a lot of calls about this place and that there were three ongoing cases. Called back as we were told by Sam, the front desk worker she would be able to speak. To our surprise, they told us we weren't getting our refund and violently cussed at us. Department of health, better business bearu, and the federal trades commission called on this place. The family that runs this places are scammers. Don't stay here. Booked an Executive Suite w/ 2 Queen size beds for 2 Adults, were given an Executive Suite w/ 1 King bed. Went back to front desk and was told ghat was not what I had booked, should the female desk clerk my paperwork from Price line and she said that was not what they had received and would not honor it. Explained that we, adults, did not want to sleep in same but and she argued with me as to why we couldn't sleep together, non of her business. Clerk finally put us in a regular room with 2 queen beds but charged me for the Executive Suite "because that is what I had booked". The room had dried mud in the bath, the filter for the air conditioner hadn't been changed in probably a year, wall had been patched due to a leak, and the catch pan was still in the corner. The "mountain view" was no where to be found!!!! The so called restaurant was a sports bar that sold appetizers! The cleaning crew which lived at the Lodge disappeared the second to the last day we were there, no where to be found!!! The desk clerk, third day on the job, called the manager, who was in North Carolina on vacation and he told the clerk to lock them out of their rooms and tell them they were fired, come back when he got back in town to get their stuff. So the desk clerk is also cleaning the rooms!!!! Would not recommend to my worst enemy!!! read more

For $266 a night definitely would not stay here again. Several staff milling around upon arrival one of whom unbeknownst to us was having a cocktail at the bar as we attempted to get a drink said employee did not even look our way. we had to go to the front desk to ask if there was someone to help us and order a drink. Front desk came to bar and thankfully she was able to pry herself away from her cocktail and get up and go behind the bar to grab our drinks. We inquired about grabbing a bite to eat and were encouraged to use a delivery service instead of the bites offered at hotel. I think they were "busy" having their own little happy hour. The room was okay. bathroom area is very small and no where to set stuff down much less maneuver around if there is more than one of you trying to get ready. We did think the hairs we found on a towel and pillow was a nice arrival gift - gross! Breakfast was not good at all. Food was cold and there was NO coffee. Those are some of the "highlights" from our stay. 10 out of 10 do not recommend. read more

Below is my review for the BLACKSTONE LODGE **** Apparently new ownership has done wonders for this place!!! When researching for a place to stay in Lead SD, I found a lot of negative reviews for the previous incarnation of this hotel (Palace Express, I believe...) but found some positive entries for the renovated, re-named Blackstone. So we decided to take a flyer at the Blackstone for a one-night stay in late August and it was great !!! First, to be honest, the building itself isn't much to look at from the outside, and there is no landscaping to speak of -- it's all parking lot. But don't let that deter you. The inside looks completely re-done and is very nice-looking. The staff at the front desk was very welcoming and helpful. They took time to answer our questions about the hotel itself and to recommend some restaurants for a quick evening out in Deadwood (only 4 miles away...). The room itself was clean and roomy, and the bed was very comfortable. It's very obvious that the new owners put a lot of money into the accommodations. The new bar is nicely decked with an attractive wood decor. My wife said a wider variety of darker beers would be a nice touch, and the young man who served us made note of our suggestion, since they are still learning what customers want since the bar is a new addition to the hotel. We didn't get a chance to try any of the THREE (!!) outside hot tubs due to time constraints but the bartender did mention that they had been getting frequent use. The breakfast the next morning was very good: hot biscuits and gravy that tasted better than the usual hotel fare, along with the standard continental breakfast fare. Excellent. It was a great stay for the $85 price we paid for the one night, and the wife and I decided it could be our go-to place for future trips to the area. I hope the traveling public gets the word to ignore the reviews for the old name and give the Blackstone a try. We will definitely be back. read more

This is my first 5 star review of anything. Blackstone Lodge is THE place you want to stay. First off, the price. In my 20 years of travelling for work, I have never stayed at such a wonderful place for the price range, ever! The staff is super friendly and helpful. We were checked in by Chris, who was running the lounge and the front desk simultaneously. He took great care to explain some of the history of the area and the amenities of the hotel. He did not rush us at all, and he was quite busy. Chris is not an average hotel front desk employee, he treats you like a guest in his home. We will return just on customer service alone. Outdoor Hot Tubs, clean towel bins for tub use, lounge with local and national beers and wine. Plenty of televisions and hot "bar" food. Complete remodel with new super comfy beds and just a very nice décor. If you want to spend a few hundred bucks for useless foofy rooms, keep looking. If you want to stop at "home" for the night then you found the right place. read more

BEWARE!! No security at all on back door! Walk in any time day or night they never lock the door even though it states door is locked from 12 - 6 am. False advertising on the website. Pet policy states 25 per pet per stay, but when you check out it will be 25 per pet per day!! They also do not maintain the hot tubs outside unless you complain. Hotel comped room for numerous bad experiences and then called police at 1 am while we were sleeping to demand we either pay for the room they had comped or be arrested for trespassing. We really enjoyed our stay at The Blackstone Lodge--it had clean, nicely decorated rooms...the bed was very very comfortable...and our room had a really big, deep bathtub! Lots of counter space in the bathroom too...the little lounge was lots of fun. The bartender, Debbie made us feel very welcome and she was very accommodating. I must say my favorite part were the hot tubs...there were 3 really nice, newer hot tubs. Perfect temps...and the view was amazing!!! The breakfast was continental, but the biscuits and gravy were DELICIOUS!! It tasted homemade. It's only about 3-4 miles into Deadwood...not a bad drive at all. We will definitely stay there again next trip to the Black Hills. read more
