Had the pleasure of receiving a complimentary tasting of 5 of their drinks so we asked for bartenders' choice. I could tell they really knew their stuff and personally thought 1/4 shot was plenty for 5 tastings in total as I'm not much of a whiskey gal. I will say that many of the flavors are smooth - I especially liked the maple whiskey for its sweeter and more unique flavor. Definitely an equivalent to a port wine or dessert drink in general, it would have been great paired with some ice cream purchased from New Seasons next door. They have a nice array of mixers to purchase if you're like me and need a chaser here and there (yeah, yeah gimme a break I've always liked cocktails over something neat). They also have a small area to purchase items to make cocktails at home. 4 stars for now just because of how intimate their tasting room is, makes it hard to feel comfortableto just chill and enjoy some tastings - felt a little transactional and rushed because of that. Would be interested to see how their renovation comes along. Will make a note to come back when they're at 100%.l amd the tours are up and running again. Glad to have found these folks via a Yelp Event and now they're on my radar for when I'm in need of a locally distilled whiskey. Cheers!

Look. All of us* could use some alcohol right now. We're watching the world low-key fall apart, and those of us who are local minded can't help but think of how devastating this will be to the mom and pop shops that surround us. Thankfully, I found a good way to drink my feelings AND support local: Bull Run Distilling. While their (awesome) tasting room is currently closed, they're doing what they can and providing curbside pickup of their spirits. They have a badass portfolio of whiskeys and bourbons, so if you like dark spirits (booze, not demons), then Bull Run has you covered. Prices are reasonable, too. I'm big into their Straight Bourbon Whiskey Chinato Barrel Aged, which I can make into a highball for the first drink, but usually end up just drinking straight. It's been aged in sweet vermouth barrels, so it definitely has a sweeter complexity than one might expect. And I love it. For those that like clear spirits, they also make vodka. Get you some. Once this coronavirus is over I suggest going in for a tasting. Until then, check their website for details on how they're managing curbside pickup. * Please disregard if you're under 21 or in recovery.

Vodka, whiskey, and bourbon at 11am on a Sunday? Perfect! Only $5 standard flight tasting, or $10 for the premium. Either way its a good deal! If you're a drink-it-all kind of Yelper like me, you're gonna love everything. The whiskey and bourbons were tasty, and the vodka was surprisingly smooth. Bottles were reasonably priced at $25-35. If Alaska Airlines didn't charge $25 to check in luggage, I would've bought a couple bottles.

My group and I really enjoyed the tasting room here. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. It was convenient that they have their own parking lot. We didn't have to spend time searching or have to pay for a spot. Would recommend, come check them out.

Bull Run Distillery makes awesome spirits... Today was birthday celebration AND garage sale. Enjoyed the tour and tastings.

"Dam Good Whiskey!" -- A Beaver's Review of Westward Distillery…read more Well chew my bark and call me industrious--Westward Distillery has crafted a whiskey so fine it made my tail thump like a drum on spring thaw! I waddled in skeptical. After all, we beavers know a thing or two about craftsmanship: sharp teeth, strong wood, steady paws. But the moment those folks poured me a sample of their American Single Malt, I realized I was in the presence of fellow artisans--humans who build with barley the way I build with birch. The aroma? Like sniffing a warm cedar log at sunset, with a hint of orchard fruit drifting downstream. The taste? Smooth as a freshly planed maple branch, with a delicious grain character that made me contemplate abandoning dam construction to pursue professional sipping full-time. The finish? Long, warm, and rich--lingering like the satisfaction of placing the final stick on a perfectly engineered lodge roof. And don't get me started on the place itself. The distillery is polished, welcoming, and smells pleasantly of oak instead of predators. The staff? Delightful! Not one of them tried to trap me, and they spoke about their whiskey with the passion of creatures who truly love their craft. Westward, my whiskered friends, you have built something remarkable. If I had opposable thumbs, I'd raise a glass. Instead, I'll slap my tail in tribute: THWAP THWAP THWAP! That's beaver for "EXQUISITE WORK, KEEP IT UP."

We were not disappointed. I thought maybe we were going to just grabbed my cans and go but no.... The fresh cocktails made with their distillery liquors were gorgeous. Absolutely perfect. My man got a Gold Rush and I got a some delicious concoction of which I can't recall, uncle got a Root beer Float made with their house made vanilla cream. Oh my gah... so good. Auntie got a vodka martini which she adored, partially for the 3 olives and not getting any flack about wanting a vodka martini. Christine our bartender was brilliant. She suggested some of the house made Vanilla Crème and Cinnamon Rum. I've not tasted any liquors so amazing in ages. It made me want to completely forget about any canned cocktails and take bottled spirits home. We also tried the house made Fresh Hop Whiskey. I'm dead. Literally it was so good. I'm not even a hoppy kind of girl but this stuff was gold. If you're going to indulge in spirits this is the place to, and stock up for home cocktails. So delicious and service is stellar.

A real gem on my burgeoning distillery tour of Portland!…read more Burgeoning because it turns out as much as other think I drink a lot (it's not a faze mom!!!) it turns out that I can only really ripple at one distillery a day. Anyway, I love that this tasting room is an easy walk from my place. Plus it's near all the food and other things I like when I take to the fire water and get to walking! I came during a private event and almost thought I wouldn't be able to taste. However they have a back bar area that has tables set up, so I was able to get my sip on. There are bunches and bunches to sip from the Hue Hue coffee rum (dangerous because you can sip this stuff straight, the coffee flavor is that good) to even an eggnog flavored tipple, you will find something interesting to taste! The tasting experience was informative and fun! It wasn't pretentious, and it truly was laid back. You can decide how much you wanted to interact. So if you just wanna sip and be left to your thoughts you're given the option. I bought a couple bottles and I will definitely be back for more. It's really cool to have a decent priced high quality distillery so close by!

The manager enjoys sharing his wealth of knowledge. We tasted our $5 whiskey flight in the lounge area, but you also have your choice of sitting at the pour bar or at small high tables. A bottle of their award winning rye whisky is $79 which seems like a good value. I enjoyed the coffee rum taster and bought a bottle for only $19.95. Their wide selection makes the place look cluttered, somewhat messy. You're somewhat over-stimulated by all the eye candy and making a selection gets confusing. Whatever, if that model works then more power to them. I will definitely return.
