In July 2024, my Jeep broke down in South Lake Tahoe. Built Right 4x4 arranged a tow for gas reimbursement to the driver, Tony, but he later declined payment. Initially, the shop seemed trustworthy, much like the early stages of a toxic relationship in which you're sold on words you want and need to hear.
I approved repairs for the heads, oil cooler, and lifters/rockers based on verbal assurances. Later, more repairs like the exhaust cam and cold air intake were added. I approved them, despite the payment agreement I was soon pressured to pay off the invoice. So I paid it to avoid confrontation.
I picked up my jeep and had to take it back several times. From rough idles, jeep dying at stop lights, jeep not starting, consistent check engine lights and codes etc I was always told there was a fix, it was repaired and sent on my way or to clear codes and just keep driving it. Communication became inconsistent, and the Jeep continued breaking down.
My Jeep also sustained damage, including my rear bumper, mismatched tire PSIs, missing valve caps, and a missing light cover. Trash was left inside, and I found an airbag from another vehicle. I never received my old parts and had to request my engine cover back.
During a road test Kenny admitted to breaking my radiator and blamed it on it being brittle. I rebuilt the entire water system not 2 years prior. As of January 2025 this system is still broken. Coolant is the wrong color and does not flow through the system. It has been since the end of Nov. since my rig has moved out of my driveway. She is currently growing mold.
After weeks of unresolved issues, brought Jeep back to replace coils--again. Upon arrival, I noticed radiator fluid leaking and sent a photo to Kenny, who couldn't explain it. After the work was done, Kenny asked me to sign a paper for the wiring harness and coils, which I'd never been presented with before. When I questioned being charged for coils under warranty, it came out they hadn't replaced all the coils previously as claimed. I reluctantly initialed the paper to avoid further conflict.Kenny drove the Jeep out and insisted I test drive it with him. I declined, explaining I was too upset to have a constructive conversation. He reacted aggressively, turning off my Jeep, unplugging his computer, and slamming my door. He yelled, "Why the f*** don't you want to test drive it with me?" I explained my frustrations, which set him off further. He took my keys, stormed off, and returned to throw them--minus my Jeep key--through my open window, saying Heather would "meet me outside when she had time."Feeling unsafe I called friends for support. When Heather eventually came out, she was calm at first but became hostile when I mentioned others asking about my issues with the shop. Kenny joined in, interjecting aggressively. At one point, he told Heather to "shut the f*** up." I instinctively stepped 2 steps back, crossed my arms and asked what I needed to do to get my key back so that I may leave. A friend of mine arrived, which de-escalated the situation. Kenny handed Heather my jeep key who intern handed it to me and stated they'd "take care of the charge for the coils." My friend and I left. I was not given a copy of the paper I had signed earlier.
From unprofessional behavior, bullying, and safety concerns to incomplete, faulty repairs, Built Right 4x4 is unsafe and unreliable. Avoid this shop at all costs. read more
