You just need to pay BMO an extra 15% over the builder's sale price. It's hit or miss and there's a different selection each time we come. We've purchased flooring and trim in the past. They often call the BMO the "Handyman's Candyland". Since I work as a carpenter, this place is a vital part of my business. I am often asked to solve complex problems and due to the variety of thing one can find here, I can often find a solution. My suggestion is that you need to know enough about what you are doing before buying materials here. If you are a casual DIYer, you can get into some trouble as what you buy is not returnable. Specifically, here is what I love about BMO. I have purchased all of my millwork for several projects and saved a considerable amount of money. I have purchased prehung doors for both interior and exterior applications and have saved quite a bit of money and found just the right thing. My clients were happy and they saved money on their materials. Lately they have begun offering inventoried cabinetry for kitchens and baths. You don't have a great selection of colors and styles however, what they offer is a good quality for the price. read more

Location is great. They have a lot of stuff. It's not organized that well. They have auctions that run all the time. You have to be willing to sift through a lot of stuff. We've been there three times and haven't purchased anything. A lot of one off things from different companies. read more

We are renovating 2 bathrooms. (I know). We are probably going to spend a lot of money, but we want to save where we can. So, we went here to look at vanities. They had a large selection, and we were able to find a couple that were really nice quality - solid wood, dovetailing, well built. We also picked up granite countertops with undermount sinks. I don't remember the total, but the price on the 5' wide hickory vanity was $645. I could have spent a lot more time in this place looking around and finding deals, but I had children at home. Maybe another time. Later in the day, our contractor told us that Building Materials Outlet had called him saying that we had been overcharged, and they were crediting us $200. I was quite pleased! We didn't know, and we wouldn't have known without them telling us. They definitely earned repeat business, and lots of recommendations. So, if you are in the market for some renos, check 'em out. read more

I don't know what is wrong with some of the people leaving these reviews, but BMO is amazing!!! I drove down from northern Wisconsin, and it was worth every mile. Cost: I bought 4 windows and spent as much on all 4 as 1 would have cost me at home (Pelle no less). What I paid for the two exterior doors was far less than one good for would have been at Menards. Service: Excellent! Staff was knowledgeable and helpful, taking one cart to the front while we kept shopping and helping us to load when done. All were very friendly! Stock: Phenomenal!!! Everything sorted, measured, and priced, and far more options than I ever could have dreamed of. The only thing we couldn't find was the weird small windows we needed. I had a good experience here and saved some money several years ago, but not this time. I am across the metro from this store, and since the cabinet I need is a weird size, I called ahead to see if they even had any there. I was told by the woman who answered the phone that they sometimes do, but she didn't know if any are there right now. I said, " You can't even tell me whether or not you have any 24" or smaller vanities there before I drive a long way and potentially expose people to my germs?" She told me that would require them going out into the place and looking, and that they are not willing to "shop for me over the phone," and that I would just "have to come in and see." Huh? With our Covid rate rising exponentially, I can't even get anyone to tell me if you have any available stock for me to purchase? How nuts is this? I'm really happy with the standard-sized vanity I purchased there a few years ago, but I'm not willing to drive a long way just to see if some store even has the correct size of item that will work for me. In addition, they are unwilling to do even minimal things they can to lessen the number of people who can spread the 'Rona. Yuck. Every other business on this planet has figured out how to slow the spread by reducing contact, but this one completely refuses. No thanks. I'd rather pay double than to be treated with such callous disregard for my time, not to mention my life. read more

When I needed windows for my cabin, I went to BMO. I spent as much as I would have for bottom of the line widows, but instead have four brand name windows. I priced one of them on the manufacturer's website and found that I paid 1/8 the retail cost! I returned for a door, which came to less than half the retail price, even with tax and the 12% premium (their margin, I assume). read more

Unethical and dishonest company - buyer beware! Some of their stock is sold via online bid on their website. I bid on a certain brand of siding and won the bid. I went to collect my items only to find that the products they had were NOT the brand they had listed for sale - they were a different and incompatible brand. I brought this mistake to their attention and was told that even though the incorrect listing was their error, I was out of luck and had to purchase the items or be banned from shopping there in the future. "It was my fault for not confirming that the product they listed was what they were actually selling". What?? I was completely shocked by their unethical and dishonest practices. Contractor here- After spending well over $25,000 at this store, the cabinets I bought couldn't get picked up for 6 weeks because my mother had a health emergency and I required a triple heart bypass 5000 miles away and I had to leave the country. I called and explained but when I arrived I was screamed and yelled at in front of all the guys loading and other customers as we were loading the cabinets. I (foolishly) apologized profusely, then went into the store to buy lots of other items I needed as I was now behind on several jobs, HOWEVER I was followed by two members of staff, the manager and the woman at the counter, and harassed and told never to shop at the store again- I was treated like a criminal all because I had to leave my cabinets there longer than they wanted....I have NEVER been so embarrassed, or mistreated by rude and obnoxious staff like this in a store in my entire life....sad they had to lose me as a customer because I spend well over $100k on materials per year, and infact ended up getting my own account with their cabinet supplier because of it. read more

Since I'm high risk for getting Covid I nicely asked if I could send them a list of cabinets we need on their order form and give them my credit card and them come pick them up outside when they were ready. The owner repeatedly told me to "just come inside" even though I'm not comfortable she was totally unwilling to make any accommodations during the virus. I suggested many solutions, like someone quickly grabbing our card outside and running it, which didn't require us coming in, giving the card over the phone, etc and she just said no that's not how they do things and I have to "just come in." Very rude -- don't expect any accommodations to keep their customers safe. read more

Just had an unbelievable horrible experience Building Materials Outlet Midwest Inc. After purchasing an item yesterday and wanting to pick up Wednesday, they called me and said that I could not have the product I paid for, at that price. They would not let me leave with my product that I had paid for "because I paid the wrong price". Extremely poor business practice! I'vred 16 cabinets at a cost of $6500. My contractor made two trips out there to pick them up and we found we only had 15. We called immediately and the guy we talked to was so rude and condescending and basically argued with us for 10 minutes saying we had all our cabinets. My contractor had to make a third trip out there and stand and argue with this guy for 10 more minutes and finally he went and reviewed the video footage and found out that indeed we only received 15 cabinets. I would never do business with this company again. They have horrible customer service! And if you do do business with them make sure you stand there and check off every item they're loading up for you. read more

We went here today, 3/30/17, to Building Materials Outlet off of Sibley Memorial Hwy. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was a sign that said: 1. No cameras or pets allowed in building. 2. Parents w/kids under age 15 have to sign a waiver. and 3. A 12% builders fee (?) is added onto your purchases? We came to look at the scratch & dent bathroom vanities--there were a lot of them. They are all very nicely CLEARLY marked w/Length & Height, which was awesome. They also have hot water heaters, washer/dryers, carpet squares, kitchen cabinets, wood pieces, sinks, large A/c units, faucets. Research your prices and make sure you are getting a deal. The vanity sinks were VERY reasonable.. from basic style ($35+) to Granite (starting at $250). The bathroom vanities--they even had new ones--in sevERAL different sizes and colors/woods. PROS: Very helpful staff. Clean place, Well lit, employees wear blue vests, so they are easily identifiable. Large parking lot w/clear lines. CONS: The faucets weren't clearly marked--as in, no pictures on the box (like you know, how Menards or any other store has them), so you had to open up each box, which I find annoying. I would have LOVED to take pics on the inside, to share on my facebook page, OR even here, to show you all, but couldn't because of their sign at the front. read more

The prices aren't any better than a sale at the major retailers and there is a mystery 12% charge to buy things at the counter. Lots of damaged items for high prices and no warranty. Many items can't be purchased and have to be bid on through the website. Very bizarre. If they lowered the prices, got rid of the mystery fee and provided good customer service then they might hit the mark, otherwise just an expensive junk fest. read more

Bmo cabinets in pensacola is the worst cabinets ever!!! I have paid over$11,000 for custom made cabinets. And I got the worst prefabricated cabinets you can never ever imagined. How about a thrift store for just about everything you could possibly think of for remodeling projects? This place is amazing. I could spend hours & hours perusing the aisles. Vanities, coutnertops, storage, doors, windows, stair parts, cabinets, shelving, capret pieces, door handles & locks... you name it, they've got it! It's nspiration @ a raw level. Units you can purchase & create to beautify your home in your unique style. Whatever you are looking for, do your research & price comparisons. Some items are great deals & some items are priced the same @ Home Depot or Menards. The Buliding Materials Outlet also charge a 12% builders fee. Just good to know. This place is huge! You will need a few hours to go through it, bring your own measure tape. We were looking for an entry door, found a pretty good buy. It's like a building material consignment shop. They add 12% onto your purchase, calling it a 'buyer premium' charge. Buyer beware: I went to "BMO" Building Materials Outlet Midwest Inc. in Eagan, MN. I feel cheated. On the recommendation of my contractor, I went to BMO to get 5 solid pine doors. It was very confusing to find the sizes I needed (they measure and label them differently if there's a door casing, took a while for a shopper to help me with that! ) and when I asked for a little help I was told "we don't really offer help, here. it's totally DIY. " ok...... So I pick out $100 doors, loaded them myself, and asked a nice random customer guy at checkout if he thought they could be trimmed an inch. Both him and owner Angie agreed they could be trimmed. I paid the surprise $50!!!! fee to shop there plus $500 for my doors and left. Once we trimmed them we discovered they were in fact LAMINATE. A very thin layer had been glued over particle board. When I called them regarding this, Angie told me I should have known this, and there was nothing she was willing to do, compensation wise. I get that it's a discount outlet reselling things. But I feel duped and cheated, and want other "every day" buyers to beware. read more

I understand what Bmo should be or is perceived to be, but I don't think it hits the mark..maybe in the beginning it did.. There is absolutely no organization..an example would be doors..randomly packed in slots tall short..who cares...and did I mention packed..so to get a look at one it has to be yanked out..which I am sure is an insurance hazard..plus I don't think any of them has that great of price..especially since there is no one to help in this process.. Flooring..again no great shakes on the price, why fight to buy something when you can go anywhere else and find whatever you are looking for without freezing and working for it? It's like going to cub and standing in line to pay and then bagging your own groceries.. It's too random, too high in price without having sales help..and just too much work. read more

Prices are double what they used to be, and 3/4 of their inventory is dented scratched junk that is non returnable.. the employees clearly hate there job and have no good customer service skills. They need new management maybe i don't know though, but if you're in the area i would recommend just going to mn home outlet down the road they have way better everything, and is way cheaper. I am not feeling BMO...I understand what it should be but really I don't think its worth the trip. You have very little help from anyone who works there..nothing is really organized, ex..looking for an exterior door..sizes are mixed, types are mixed, some don't have dimensions, prices, etc..difficult to look at since you have to actually forcibly pull them out to view them..some are not insulated, yet being sold in Minn.! Hardwood flooring..some nice styles..but really no cheaper then H/Depot or Lowes..in fact none of the prices are really cheaper then other stores! And is this not the point? A door similar to one at BMO is 100. cheaper at H/Depot..and insulated and with brick mould! I am really not a hunter and gather type person so obviously BMO makes me crazy..Other then that, the prices at BMO are not less then other stores, with less service and difficulty.. Had a very poor experience with BMO Ivory Raised panel cabinets. Ordered nearly 5800 worth of cabinets, rented a Penske truck and picked them up. Inspected the cabinets when I picked them up, they looked great. Got them home, started installing them one by one. After removing the cabinet doors and getting them mounted I went to install the shelves- In some of the cabinets the holes for the shelf mounts are up to 3/4 inch off- this makes it impossible for the shelves to be level without drilling new holes. Also, 6 out of 8 of the shelves are bowed and scratched. I've included some pictures. I called BMO, spoke with Kyle the manager (he also says he's the owner). I explained the problem, sent some pictures to angie@bmomn.com and he called me back a few hours later. The first thing he said was, how do I know you didn't install the pins in the wrong hole? I explained that I'd be happy to take more pictures. He said he didn't want to see more pictures, the only way he would look at it was if I bring the defective cabinets in. I explained that they were already installed ;( Now I have to decide if I want to dismantel my cabinets and restart or just drill new holes myself and try to get them to work. We then spoke about the bowed shelves- he explained that he's not willing to do anything for the brand new bowed shelves. At one point he said, "how do I know you didn't bow them?" I said because I picked them up 1 week ago, why would I bow them. I can assure you, they went directly from BMO to inside my house. Upset that I have to deal with issues already on these brand new cabinets. I understand the "all sales are final" policy with used windows and doors and other building materials. But these guys are selling brand new cabinets, and they just don't give a rip about poor quality. Just keep in mind, when you order cabinets. OPEN THEM! TEST FIT THE SHELVES! MAKE SURE THE HOLES LINE UP PROPERLY! MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT SCRATCHED ON THE FRONT FACE OF THE SHELVES! Hope this review helps someone avoid the mistakes I made. Tim read more
