The service when finally able to start the process was nice, the black girl with dreads was super nice and was adaptable. I wish I saw her name tag but she was working today around 1pm. She kept pushing the large Toothless on my daughter, even after she said no a million times even I said no over and over she was sooooo pushy. It pissed me off!! My daughter said that she had enough large plushies and wanted a normal size one and she would not take no for an answer!!! She needs to work on working better with children. read more

My wife took our 2 kids to this location for a birthday Bear. My oldest son, 8 years old, dressed his Bear in a suit and tie and said he was going to be president. Then the build-a-bear employee that was checking us out told him, "anyone's better than the one we've got." And when my son didn't acknowledge her crack, she repeated it again. It was underwhelming. I get it was a Friday early afternoon and the store isn't as staffed, but none of the employees seem happy to be there. We were there because we went to check out Uniqlo or we would of stayed in Sugar Land It was my daughter's first birthday and we went to get her a birthday bear. No one came to assist us in figuring out which bear was part of the birthday promotion but later the employee who was assisting a guest for a 1st birthday as well showed us the bear and gave my baby her happy birthday sticker. We picked a little shirt for her bear and while we were waiting for the birth certificate, the employee came by and with her tone of voice said "Uh you know you can dress the bear right?" We were still picking an outfit for my daughters bear but that attitude we just threw on the shirt we were holding. Check out took a bit because everyone needed to go through the upselling of the birthday bag and now you have to pay for bear condo which use to be free when I was a little girl. Oh well we ended up just carrying the bear and we thankfully paid less then $10 for the experience just for the employee to forget about the birth certificate for the bear. I saw there was a hiring event happening at that store and not only do they desperately need it, but please hire some happier people. I get working at a store with children can be draining, but please at least act like you want to be there. read more

Some of the best customer service I have received in a while. Every staff member was so engaging. Answered all our questions, even asked about the person we were buying a bear for to help us find the perfect one. Today we had an underwhelming and expensive experience to say the least. Our first time experience at Build A Bear was extremely disappointing. We stopped by the store for my daughter's seventh birthday and unfortunately we were not greeted nor did any employee working there bother to explain to us the process of how Build A Bear works. Mind you we came on a Thursday around 11:30am so the store wasn't crowded. Anyway the animals range from $24-$34 dollars then you can choose an animated voice or your own voice (for a price of course) my daughter chose a little short giggle which costs an extra $7. Then they stuff the animal and make the child pick a heart and they say a little spiel which the girl who works there had no enthusiasm at all to be in a place that caters to children. You can also buy clothes for your bear/doll which costs more money. I believe we spent $14 on an outfit. Then you have to pay again for a box or a bag to take your bear in lol Overall the experience and toy just wasn't worth it. It's like we were rushed to just buy our toy and leave. Not the BAB I remember as a kid. Seemed pretty small and empty. We went to use a gift card given as a present and to have a special day to celebrate summer. My daughter immediately wanted to make a Jurassic world dinosaur that roars... however the sound creation machine wouldn't work (even after they rebooted it), which was disappointing. The employee said we could just stuff the dinosaur first and add sound at the end once they could get it working. In the end without confirming, she had us do the heart-wish ceremony and just sewed up the dinosaur, saying it would take too long to get in touch with technical support (I mean maybe we would have waited and come back another time if I had known this before but whatever.) I redirected my 5 year old with the "wash" station and to pick out clothes. FYI after a thorough search hardly any items fit the dinosaurs- we settled on a skirt, ill-fitted bear shirt, and a ear bow (which i have to alter at home to fit as a headband). I then realized the birth certificate area was broken as well - so no naming or getting a printed birth certificate. Sigh When we went to check out, our $25 gift card wasn't scanning for some reason. Thankfully they honored it which i can only assume is because they must be used to their system not working. I would have been over-irritated if we had gone through this for nothing (and let's face it- what monster would make their kid put their new lovey back). At checkout, you discover then that now they charge additional for the classic boxes to take home your new stuffy, so we said forget it (but really?!) I would give this experience 1 star in comparison to the BAB I remember growing up, BUT I gave 3 stars just because the employees were bubbly and nice. Must be frustrating working somewhere where the equipment is broken and you can't get ahold of technical support- But they were still very nice and as helpful as possible. NOT WORTH IT!!!! We took our lil girl on a Wednesday afternoon and not only did we have to wait a half hour, but when it was our turn the lady rushed through the process and told us to finish ourselves!? I mean isn't that part of the experience? Also, there is an up charge for every little item for the bear...the clothes, the shoes, the heartbeat, the smell, even the BOX that you take him home in is an up charge! Never again. read more

Stopped in to pick up a present for my two year old granddaughter. The ladies there were very helpful and helped me select a stuffed dog. We heard about the pay the amount of the birthday for the bear, that's exactly why we stopped by. Not knowing how it really works. We walked in and told the person who first talked to us that it was our first time and we were there for our daughters birthday and told her about the birthday we heard. She told us to pick any bear from the wall and that she would be given a sticker and a bear hat. Once we went to the stuffing party I told the lady there who told us the beating heart was an up charge, no thank you. Well she stuffed it in thinking that came with the birthday bear. Once we got to the register the full price was in. We don't mind that everything has a price. I told her that we were there for the birthday bear deal. The register lady told us it was for a specific bear. So I told her who helped us with the whole process and turns out it was the manager her self who didn't explain the process correctly. So any future customers...... make sure to let them know you are there for the deal and tell them to tell you what best is included. read more

I took one star away because of the uninviting demeanor of Tracy. She was the sales lady behind the register when we came in the store. She was very unfriendly, never smiled and was very dry. I took one star away because of her. Now overall, I have been a build a Bear customer for years. I joe bought clothes for our stuffed toys and voice boxes etc. Every-time to come here I am used to being greeted kindly and the service being above average. The previous sales people have offered to re stitch a bow, add stuffing and give a light cleaning once over for free. Would I recommend this place, of course. But the above mentioned associate needs some training on how to be a little more friendly and helpful to customers coming in with there children to spend money. read more

If you've never been to Build-A-Bear but you love stuffed animals, this is a perfect place to come and check out. For anywhere from $10-30, you can pick out a "hide" (unstuffed bear or animal), and an employee will walk you through the process of stuffing it to a level you like, sewing it up, cleaning it off, naming it, and so on. It's a fun experience for kids, or for those ladies in your life who still love stuffed animals. Aside from gifts for kids, I've brought two different girlfriends here and they both loved the experience. Service really depends on the employee you have on hand and when you come in. If you catch someone on a good day, they are cheery and they really make the building experience something fun for the person building the bear. If you end up with a grumpy or lazy person, they mumble their way through their story and I can see where it's nowhere near as fun. My one major knock on this place is that they have a ton of add-ons that can absolutely blow your budget if you include them. The initial bears (or dogs, or whatever) are reasonably priced relative to other high-quality stuffed animals, but once you're done dressing and accessorizing them, the tab can come to upwards of $50. My last trip cost over $70 because-- because the dogs have four feet and need four shoes, of course. read more

Came in the other day to purchase a bear for my daughter and I was greeted by a bunch of friendly workers. My daughter absolutely loved iris at the stuffer. I had so much fun watching them do the little dance. Iris took the time to get to know her and wish her a very special birthday, she also took the time to help us dress my daughters bear, would definitely bring my son next time. read more

I came in and was severely disappointed at first that I could not in fact Frankenstein together my own abomination out of different species of real bears. I wanted the body of a sun bear, the legs of a polar bear, the arms of a brown bear, and the head of a pizzly(which is a hybrid polar bear and grizzly bear.) I wanted it's arms outstretched and standing tall to place outside my shack to ward off predators and also solicitors. They only let you build stuffed teddy bears here. So I built one, put a tiara on it, a tutu, and added a magic wand and took that home with me. I named her Princess Bubble fart. Had to come here to write a review because of one person I interacted with, FRANKIE! Frankie was fun, bubbly, nice and really really good with all the kids I saw him interact with. Quite honestly, a week later he has me wanting to go back and get my own bear built (seriously!). It's rare to find anyone, in any profession, that is GREAT at what they do and so excited to be at work!! Don't get me wrong, everyone else here is great too. However, Frankie stood out because of his beyond and above attitude. If only more people in retail were the same! As for price, you know what it is from the gate...if you want a bear that has any licensed affiliation, expect an up charge. But there are some cute bears available in a very affordable price range. So the beginning was all good we enjoyed it. It was towards the end we ended up with a problem. We payed with a full 100, the cashier that was ringing us up didn't have change. She turned to the cashier next to her and asked for some change. That lady (Rosalina) was so rude to her co worker in front of a customer because she took a 100 bill and had no change, And now she had to go get change. One of my good friend had her 3 years old daughter's birthday party at Build a Bear (Memorial City Mall) on a Saturday during the Memorial weekend. 40 kids. When she book this party event, she specifically ask the Manager if parents can upgrade the teddy if their child did not want it. The Manager said,"YES". (Why wouldn't a manger say YES, they get to make more money.) I have also been to another birthday party at Build a Bear in First Colony Mall and they allow upgrades. When the party guests and I arrived at Build a Bear. Kids were excited and already wanted to grab the stuff animal they wanted. The Manager that was on duty (older lady with glasses late 50's or early 60's) said, " We can NOT upgrade because it will be to difficult to calculate the difference. I was shocked to hear that. Obviously this store does not want to make the extra money from parents that wants to upgrade. The Manager could not calculate the $18 per kid difference. (In my mind, how are you the manager if you cant calculate the difference). If that was the case. I told the mother that was throwing the party to buy 40 gift cards, $18 each and pass it out. She did NOT want to make thing complicated and neither did I. The party was unorganized. The staff (African American girl that was stuffing the bear) was NOT aware that there was a party coming today. At the end I and couple of parents wanted to assist the 2 employees that was being extremely helpful. Unfortunately I did not get there name. One girl was an African American girl in a wheel chair and the other was a Caucasian (maybe Hispanic) with brown hair. They were extremely nice, helpful, great customer service for 40 kids. They contentiously had a smile on their face at all times. Couple of the kids were upset not able to get the stuff animal that they wanted. I was planning to have my son birthday party here. After this unorganized party and the bad experience with NO upgrades. I decided NOT too. I am shock that a manger does not know how to handle a big parties. She seem overwhelmed. It's 5:15 am and I just downloaded yelp to give this place a terrible review. For some reason, they say they're closed- but they were open- and not happy- yesterday at 7pm. Upon walking in- I got a very sweatshopy vibe because no one was smiling, it was 80° in the store- and the only African employee was working the cotton wheel. Nice build a bear. Real nice. To continue, THEY DIDNT LET ME STEP ON THE PUMP AT THE COTTON WHEEL. They made the poor underpaid African do all the labor! Unbelievable! It's 2017 and you guys are still in 1860. Next time I want to drop 3 grand on a product I'll buy a bag of popcorn from the theatre. But overall, I left with two of the best friends I've ever had and I am BEARY happy to have them read more

We just finished our first birthday party at this store. Christoffe (sp?) the store manager was awesome. We did not realize today being the day before Valentine's Day, the store was as busy as if it was Dec 24. The store was full of people, so was the mall. Yet since we booked a party, undivided attention was given to us, 6 kids and their parents. The whole party lasted about one hour, with Christoffe warming up the children before he presented the bears ( 3 choices, since we picked the least expensive package of $17pp) so that the kids were all excited about it. He took them around the store in a choo choo train formation, shouting some slogans. They got red hearts to put inside the bears. When it came time to fluff the bears, we had our own line and avoided the then mile long line of everyone else. The kids then go and choose the outfits and name their own bears. There was a huge frame where all the kids stood behind to take a picture. The 2 birthday kids, 5 yo and 3 yo were given a "cupcake" with a "candle" to blow. The stuffed cupcake with a lighted "candle" was so cute! Everybody had a great time. We really wanted to tip Christoffe, but he declined, since the store does not allow it. Christoffe has the sunniest disposition and a most cheerful personality. My grandson, the birthday boy, named his build a bear after Christoffe. read more
