My daughter turned 1 yesterday so we decided to take her to build a birthday bear. We were greeted, but we really were not given a lot of instructions on what to do next. We eventually picked out all of her bear's accessories and got in line to have the bear filled. The employee did not do the little heart ceremony thing with us, which was disappointing. However, the employees were overall nice. There was a birthday bundle, which was not expensive. We spent around $38 on everything, which was a less than I was expecting. Would I do it again? Maybe. We were so excited about the Birthday Build a Bear experience with our soon to be 1 yr old. I call, goes straight to an answering machine that tells you no appointments are needed, just head into the store and here are our hours. I sign up, sign up our little girl online. This nearest build-a-bear is about an hour half from us so we plan to stop by as we drive through Birmingham headed to another city up further north for the weekend. Kill an hour before the store opens only to walk in and find out they are out of the birthday bears and not sure when they will be restocked. (Sounds like this program may be a scam). We were not the only ones there for this birthday bear either. First timers so we didn't really know what to expect. We drove all that way and waited around so we decided to go ahead and let her pick an animal out and enjoy the experience (which may be how they get a lot of ppls money, entice them in on this unicorn of a plan and get them to pay more money) There was one lady working with a handful of customers and she was in no, none, zero, natta rush to get ANYTHING done. We sat in line for over 40 min to fill this best because she was so slow, she had only filled 4 bears in this timeframe. THEN she proceeded to make everyone wait again to check us out. When it was our turn, no joke, Regan decided to check her phone!!!! I was about ready to loose it when I decided it would make no difference to her speed and decided to take out little one out in the walkway and let my husband finish waiting around for her to get off her phone and finish checking the remaining people out (about 10 people behind us). Sad that build-a-bear set Regan up for failure, being the only employee against 20+ guests. But also Regans work ethic needs major improvement. read more

Never in a million years did I think I'd be writing a review for Build a Bear, but here I am! So for those that don't know, you can get a bear for the cost of how old you are during your birthday month! My baby just turned one so what a steal, right? Now where they get you is in all the accessories, but thankfully she doesn't care about that at this age. We walked in and no one assisted us on telling us which bear to pick, showing us the process, etc. it was only until we got to the stuffing part that we interacted with our first employee. I can see us coming back here for birthdays, but can see where this can get really expensive for normal occurrences. read more

We recently heard about Build-A-Bear's birthday program, where for the child's birthday, you can build a bear for the same cost as the age they are turning - that's a steal! We decided we wanted to take our daughter here and get her a bear. The employees were very friendly and interactive with the children. The computers where you printed your bear's "birth certificate" could use some updating, or some better software, but we got it to work after a little while. They have tons of accessories, outfits, and different types of bears to choose from. I can see the allure of this place for kids. Our daughter loves her bear, and we were very happy to take her there. We'll be back, I'm sure! read more

This place was a brilliant plan. Promote specials that if you stick to your guns and don't do any extras are a pretty good deal. But it's hard to pass up a dollar hear and a dollar there to enhance your perfectly built buddy. They have tons of selection from all sorts of pop culture, including star wars (who wouldn't want a baby yoda) to Pokemon to Harry Potter to Girl Scouts ... you name it they've thought of it. Starting price points in the $15 range really aren't bad. But, by the time you add clothes, sounds, scents and accessories you can rack up $60 ... $70 ... $80 real quick. My recommendation, when you go to Build-A-Bear is to go in with a budget and stick to that budget. Also, do some online shopping at their website and kind of predetermine what you're thinking. In the end it is a really cool idea and it can be a ton of fun for kids to be able to build their own stuffed animal. read more

We've been here several times. We went today for my daughter's birthday. The staff were all so nice and just great with my kids. They interacted with them so well and made sure they had a great experience. The store was super clean, well organized, and well stocked. Definitely a furry friend for everyone! read more

Build a Bear is a nice place if you ignore the misery the bear builders have to endure every day. They're as friendly as can be but man, the customers that come in range from ready to blow to already too far gone. My girlfriend is a big collector of the bears and so we stop by pretty often for whatever new has come out, and these poor employees could have fought at Normandy with the war stories they have. For anyone reading: just get what you came for and leave. Don't hold the line up because you have to recount the tale of your life from birth to death to explain the importance behind this bear you're getting for your brothers sisters third cousin from the divorce. Don't record some insane phrase to put into the bear and then be surprised when a store marketed to kids won't let you swear. I promise you'll have a much better time just coming in and going out without talking at all, in fact. read more

God this place is so disorganized. The two people stuffing the bears were so slow and taking forever especially when the line was so long. There was also only one cashier to check people out when I saw 3 other workers on the floor just wondering around. They could at least open up another register to get the line going. It was just so frustrating. read more

It's build a bear! You build a bear! It's an amazing store to take your young ones to. They take part in building their new friend from adding the heart to picking out clothes. It's not exclusive to bears only. They have all types of little critter like dogs, cats, the sanrio crew. And also many think it's more for girls but there are many things there for boys as in jerseys and suits and all. It's enjoyable for the parents to watch their little ones create something of their very own and the kids really get into it; changing their new friend at the changing stations and creating their birth certificate. The store can be expensive to if you're looking to save you should establish an amount that each child can spend on their bear. It's fun at any age so parents can partake in making their own bears if they like. read more

To me it doesn't make sense that stuff animals cost so much they had a deal where you could get 2 stuff animals for 35 dollars and that's not a good deal at all.you can get 1 stuff animal for about 25 dollars and to me that's to much as well.
