i usually always enjoy the food here, I wanted to try the pistachio cake but didn't get to(or rather I cancelled it). Staff friendly and they try their best. I sat outside on this visit which was comfortable (they have new furniture) it took a while(10m) before the waiter came to take the order. When he did, the wait was approx. 10m before the tea was served. I decided to place my order immediately when he brought the tea or else the wait would be longer. After having the truffel omelette (eating time 10min), he was this time quick to return to ask if I required additional items...at that point it was getting busy so I'm sure he wanted to turn the table. I then asked just for a hot water refill as I drink my tea very weak and a pistachio cake. He said OK and promptly returned that it was not allowed, I thought that was weird but said if you want 1eur for the water fine but I won't pay for the teabag. He said it wasn't allowed, I said OK, then please cancel the drink. I decided to wait for the pistachio cake, it never came...after 10m I decided to go inside and pay my bill (which had the pistachio cake on it). The cashier is just at the front at the entrance so meanwhile I could overhear the waitress coming back in and said 'the client left'. I said no, I am here but waiting for 10m is a bit much. Cashier then asked if i wanted it to go. I said no thank you. The owner was there and she smiled, she is a friendly person. I wanted to ask her what the problem was with asking for hot water even if I am paying for it... BUT not tea. I decided to leave it go it was a nice Sunday after the movies and gym and didn't want to ruin my day. I have been a customer there for +10years (old locations - when the owner was still in the kitchen cooking herself). Its nice to see an establishment grow, but on the other hand its also disappointing to see how they then run a business with situations like this. Perhaps the little fame and clientele they have they feel its just and righteous but at the same time in the weekends a real Amsterdammer doesn't want to hang in places where too many tourists are and then on top treated as if my willingness to return is not appreciated. I will definitely not have them in my top list for brunch anymore. Besides there are many others now in Amsterdam to go too where return customers are valued and its not invaded by tourists. And most importantly not stingy on a cup of hot water. I wondered if I ask for a cup of hot water and lemon how much they would charge for that ? I will test that out and let you know...coincidentally my friend just apped me to meet there today...if I decide to go I will leave a note behind as a PS. read more
