Came in the off season and had a wonderful experience. Real grilled steak and veggies with it to me and a great price.

My wife ordered the Chicken Primavera with gluten free penne, featuring grilled chicken, pesto, and carrots. It was excellent and easily the standout dish of the evening. I had the grilled salmon, which was cooked well and was also very good. As always, we put restaurants through a bit of a stress test. My wife has gluten and dairy allergies, while I manage Alpha Gal syndrome, a tree nut allergy, and diabetes. The kitchen was able to accommodate the gluten free pasta request, which we appreciated. The atmosphere is one of the restaurant's biggest strengths. The historic building and the old photographs covering the walls make for a fun dining experience and really add to the character of the place. Service was just okay. Nothing was wrong, but it also wasn't particularly memorable. One thing worth knowing before you go: the restaurant adds a 4% surcharge for credit card payments, so if you'd rather avoid the extra fee, bring cash. Overall, we will probably pick something else a try if we return to Deadwood. Worth it if you are heading there just for the historic atmosphere. It's a great stop if you're spending time in Deadwood.

We made reservations at the deadwood Social Club and when you walk in, it's as advertised. You walk into Saloon 10 and then take an elevator to the 2nd floor to get to the Social Club. While in SD I figured this was the perfect time to try and real bison steak and I did. You can tell it was not beef but it was delicious. The loaded baked potato was also delicious. Their signature cocktail menu included many different options. If you're ever in Deadwood, I highly suggest stopping by there. The service is also amazing.

Upon entering the place wasn't very busy for 2 pm and we were sat down immediately. Our waitress was excellent. We were advised to try the Trash Can Nachos which were recommended by some locals and even though they were an appetizer my wife ordered them as a meal. They were excellent. I ordered the Wall- Eye Fish and Chips which I also thought was very good. Our waitress came by the table on several occasions to refill our drinks. Only small complaint no Coca-Cola only Pepsi products. Everything else was perfect.

Another very average meal in an understaffed restaurant. We arrived, and there was no one to greet us at the hostess station. I had to go to the back to the restaurant to alert them that there was now a queue of people waiting to be seated (others arrived after us). Our waitress was very nice. I think she was the only person for the whole restaurant. Thankfully we weren't in a rush, but service was slow. We ordered a couple beers and sodas for the kids. One of the beers was not available, so I switched up my order. The beers were locally made and pretty unremarkable. We started with the game sausage sampler. They were fine but not great. Then my kids had their kids meals, and I had the game burger, and my husband had a regular cheeseburger. I thought the game burger was fine, although I couldn't really tell that it was made of any meat other than beef. So not gamy, but not really remarkable either? This is a sports bar in a casino. Strangely enough, two of the screens were showing a pickleball game. I guess that's a sport, but really?

Fun place for a burger and beer…read more Food in Deadwood is not for gourmands, so save yourself the time and money and go to Mustang Sally's for a straightforward meal. They even have a full bar! This is a sports bar, and they have the cool option to have a half portion of an appetizer instead of fries for a $3 upcharge. My husband was delighted to be able to have fried mushrooms as his side. The kids and husband had milkshakes, and they were made quickly, and everyone loved them. They have a bunch of local beers. I enjoyed my Rapid City made beer and enjoyed a sip of my husband's Spearfish beer. I had a burger, which was perfect. The fries were good. I also had some of my daughter's hot wings. They were meaty and spicy. I loved them, although I wish they had come with celery sticks. Not a big deal, though. The restaurant is decorated with old slot machines, which were fun for the kids to look at while we waited for our food.

After a long day of traveling, we called to place a takeout order about 30 minutes before closing. The employee who took our order, a woman in a green shirt, listened while my sister and I ordered, then let out a loud, frustrated sigh and said, "Ugh... is that it then?" Her tone made it very clear that our order was an inconvenience. When I arrived to pick up and pay, I stood at the counter much longer than I should have, and it became obvious I was being ignored. The woman in the green shirt who had taken our order made eye contact with me multiple times but continued to act as if I wasn't standing there. There were three employees behind the counter, yet none of them acknowledged me. The only person who finally came over to help was a kind woman who had been sweeping on the other side of the restaurant. She stopped what she was doing because no one else would. I have 13 years of waitressing experience, so I completely understand how frustrating last-minute orders before closing can be. However, that's never an excuse to treat paying customers with disrespect. We called before closing, were polite throughout the interaction, and simply expected basic customer service. If taking an order 30 minutes before closing and acknowledging a customer at the counter is too much to ask, then maybe customer service isn't the right fit. Being busy is understandable. Being rude and pretending customers don't exist isn't. Needless to say, we won't be back.

We were looking forward to eating a good Indian Taco while driving the Spearfish Canyon Loop, but…read moreour first choice was closed when we got there. Frantically searching for another place, we found that Horseshoe Restaurant, located inside the First Gold Gaming Resort, had made-to-order Indian Tacos. We decided to stop in for dinner. Hot Cheese Bites ($5.50) - I wasn't sure what these were when I ordered them, but hey, fried cheese is never bad. It turns out that these are pretty similar to fried cheese curds, with a very soft interior with barely any chew. Commercial frozen curds perhaps? Still, they are fried perfectly with a light crisp on the exterior and served piping hot. According to the menu, the cheese bites are supposed to come with hot honey but the server was confused and asked what dressing we wanted, of which we selected ranch. (4/5) Indian Taco ($14.95) - The base frybread is a five inch diameter puck that's quite thick. It doesn't have the traditional frybread texture - instead of being fluffy and airy like a donut, it's quite dense, reminding me of the texture of a soft pretzel. The frybread has distinctive docking holes on the bottom, which prevents rising, hence the denseness. I wonder why they do that? It does taste freshly fried and is topped with seasoned beef, shredded iceberg lettuce, cheese, olives, and pico. The seasoned beef is ground into small particles and reminded me of a Taco Bell-esque extruded meat. It's quite salty but seasoned well. (2.5/5) Everything seemed to be made fresh to order - it took around 15 minutes to receive our food even though the restaurant wasn't that full. Also, unlike reviews on other platforms, we had no issues with the service whatsoever. Bathrooms: Larger ones. You can also go in the casino for more bathrooms.

However, after visiting this location every two years for the last eight years, I have officially reached "Strike Three." Before addressing the failures, I must commend Mitch, the bartender/cocktail server. He was absolutely amazing, providing the quickest service of the night and doing everything in his power to accommodate the mounting issues. The staff, in general, were apologetic, but they clearly lack the operational support needed to succeed. Despite the hotel being "dead" for a Saturday night, the food service was a catastrophe: They were out of almost every standard side, including baked potatoes and vegetables. I ordered the King Prime Rib. It arrived gray, cold to the touch, and completely flavorless. It came with a side salad and I was told they were out of side salads, only to later discover they simply didn't want to chop the heads of lettuce. When a salad finally arrived, the lettuce hadn't been washed and tasted like dirt. My salad was replaced with baked beans without my consent, further complicating a simple order. Moving dining to just eight tables in a gaming room was a significant tactical error that killed the atmosphere and flow. I was blown away to see table caddies and cutting utensils stored directly on the floor under the cash register on the gaming floor. This is a fundamental health code failure. The Room The room was "fine" but unremarkable. While it smelled clean, the decor is dated (as expected for an older property). However, the chair in our room was heavily stained, which dampened the "clean" impression. I only come home every few years, and I keep hoping this place will improve. Instead, it has consistently declined. To management: You have good people like Mitch, but your operations, kitchen standards, and basic sanitary protocols are failing them--and your guests.
