Buffalo Exchange is a staple name for me in the thrift world. We have one in RVA. It feels like they're usually near cities with colleges. People who work here are always super sweet. The cashier who checked me out was extra kind by complimenting the shirt I bought. I was in town for a work event and realized I under packed. I needed a shirt for a work dinner and this was right next to my hotel. I was so happy I could walk over. I also love checking out thrift shops in different cities because each city has their own fashion. Their shoe selection here was incredible. That's where they shined for sure. A lot of the items I loved were a bit too big, but so it goes with thrifting. I loved that you're able to try on about 10 items in the fitting room (I pick up a lot when thrifting). And I was able to find a shirt for that evening. Do know that the pricing on a lot of items are closer to "new clothes" pricing like $20-30. I luckily found a shirt on sale for $15. A lot of the options were a bit outdated for my taste, but overall I had a great experience and found what I was looking for. read more

I've been selling gently used clothes and buying clothes from Buffalo exchange for YEARS. Today, I hopped on the online waitlist, and was told I would wait 30-35 minutes. I waited in my car until I got the text saying I was next, and ended up waiting an additional 45 minutes from then. I brought in BRAND NEW sorrel's, excellent condition Vans, a brand new free people jumpsuit, and brands like Madewell and Allbird. The buyer took nothing, and said it was because they already had those styles... I went and looked and didn't find one thing similar to what I brought in. To have waited 90 minutes, pay for parking, and to bring all of these really really nice clothes in for nothing, was really frustrating. I was really excited to visit this Buffalo Exchange location. I was expecting plenty of western wear and vintage, given the location in Nashville. I suppose I should've known that those items would be in highest demand, so there wasn't actually any for me to take home. I was bummed about the selection. It felt more like weird rave clothes and lots of modern trends I don't understand. I'm sure plenty of people enjoy the selection but it wasn't for me, unfortunately. I had 3 prom dresses I wanted to sell. One brand new w/ tags and 2 that had only been worn once. I called the store several times a week before I planned to visit and the phone was never answered. I called the morning of my visit again and still no answer. I wanted to inquire if they even took formal wear before I made the long trip to the store. As I traveled to the store I called 2 times, no one answered. I got to the store and checked in. There was a 2 hour wait. I waited patiently and once my name was called I was told they do not take formal wear. I was sooo upset! The store representative that "helped" me basically waved me away and uttered something under her breath I did not hear. It was not worth asking her to repeat it. I was so mad at having to wait so long and then being told they don't accept formal wear. No where on their website does it say that. One of the most happening hip places to sell your clothes and do some fashion perusing. This place was popping when I came in to sell my stuff. People everywhere, walk in to sell wasn't too bad. The customer service is kind. Their variety is tremendous! Latest fashion and colorful of all kinds! Saw a pair of dansko like new for $30, should have gotten it. The reviews about "putting customers in their place" are accurate. Several employees there were unnecessarily judgmental, giggling as certain people walked through the door and making comments such as, "I thought these shorts would be better quality than THIS" when I attempted to sell name brand clothes that aren't even 3 months old... Huh? That was a bit rude. Not only that, but the brand new clothes that they did accept (3 pieces, £65 worth, $85 with exchange rate, tag still on) only left me with $24 in store credit... The clothing was from a European streetwear brand, and could have easily sold for more online. Period. I only gave you all 2 stars, instead of 1, because there was an employee who was kind enough to let a guy borrow a pen so he could cash his check at the bank down the street. Hopefully he was treated with respect and was able to get his money's worth. My advice to potential customers? 1) Bring your own water, 2) grey rocking poor behavior is your friend, and 3) "Polly" and "Ester" are all over the racks (and could disrupt your endocrine system, so look out). read more

"Seller" BEWARE! While going through my items the two women, one was a Manager, would reference numbers such as 18, 12, 20 etc. so it was quite MISLEADING. I was assuming that was the "$$" they were going to pay me so I was agreeing to sell. Then at the end the total was like $50. I realize I could not sell but they already had the items tagged for sale. I was so dumbfounded. I just took the money and left. I would like to know what they were "referencing" if it wasn't purchasing price!!! What is 18 or 20???? Regardless, I will DONATE my items rather than selling to them!!! Their purchasing process is MISLEADING and UNETHICAL! They are RIPPING people off, I may report them to the Better Business Bureau. I'll take a donation "write off" on my taxes vs. selling to them. This place sucks. It's overpriced and smells like cigarettes. No idea why it's hyped up online. Bought a few items for a ridiculous price and then had to re-donate them somewhere else because I absolutely could not get the smell of cigarette smoke out of the items. Waste of time, gas & money. I had a such a great experience here! Everyone was so nice and prompt with getting my clothes sorted without much of a wait. I was happy to be able to truly cash in. I came here in twice in 2 days while in the process of purging my closet. They bought a good amount of my items. You either get 30% in cash of what they resell it for or you get 50% store credit. First day I took the cash and second day took store credit where I got this amazing flapper dress (see picture) I will wear next month to a Roaring 20's event. The process is really easy and they have some awesome buys! It is way better than Plato's Closet while catering to more a mixed crowd than just younger crowd. I have more reason to keep coming by since it is pretty conveniently located to my place. I haven't even purged my dresser yet, so that is next on the list. I pretty rarely write negative reviews, but this was truly one of the worst retail experiences I've ever had. I made an appointment online to sell (super easy) and brought in 1 bag of shoes and 3 bags of higher-end clothing in excellent condition with a few lower-quality brand items and 1 old t shirt thrown in. I arrived 10 min early to find the new location. First, their new entrance was difficult to find if you parked in the garage. The sign out front wasn't super obvious to me, either. After lugging all my stuff to their back entrance, I called to ask how to get in and they made me walk all the way back around to their front. Immediately upon entering, the girls, harassed me about wearing a mask as soon as I entered (I had taken it off to lug all the clothes around the building in the heat and was planning to put it back on when I entered the store. Also, I'm fully vaccinated.) The girl up front could tell I was annoyed about having to walk around the building with all this stuff and gave me a $5 coupon to the store and decided that continually addressing me as "babe" would smooth over my experience (spoiler alert: it really annoyed me.) I decided to look around a bit while I waited for them to review my stuff, but mostly saw a lot of old t shirts and the kind of clothing I can only describe I would have worn to a costume party in college. I went to wait up front and after about 10 min, they called me back. Out of all ALL of the nice stuff I brought, they ended up taking only 3 items: a madewell shirt, a super old forever 21 dress, and the lone old t shirt I had included. I literally would have laughed had I not been in public. I asked her why some of the shoes hadn't gotten selected and she said that only sneakers tend to move here. She tacked on at least 10 more opportunities to call me babe as I got my 25% cash value (I was not about to get 50% value in store credit here.) At the end of the process, I asked for some hand sanitizer (it was hidden from customers, despite their insistence on mask-wearing), got my $10 for the 3 items they took, and decided I will never be returning here again. So, in short, if you want to sell old t-shirts and old styles from forever 21, absolutely sell your stuff here or buy their clothing. If you legitimately want your old but really nice clothes to get a new life, donate them somewhere else or find another selling option. read more

Buffalo exchange continues to impress me with the stuff they have. Today I found a great sterling silver ring with a real pearl for $25. I found the ring online, turns out it's still being sold for $125, I'm thrilled! I also got a great pair of Joe's jeans for $30, kate spade earrings for $18, and a madewell top for $18. You really can't beat the prices or the brands at Buffalo Exchange. After shopping here, there's no going back to retail for me. I literally get a high off of the deals I find every time I'm here. Other notable things I saw today were lululemon tops for $18, Prada sunglasses that are still in store for $80, and super funky Celine sunglasses. We stopped in because who doesn't love a good shopping trip??? We are super into thrifting and this was kind of a mix but mainly for clothing, shoes, and accessories. It was so busy! I had to wait for a dressing room but not that long. The place has a great selection of unique pieces. I did think they were a little over priced for my taste but that's kind of what it was. Not so much a thrift shop and more of a second hand clothing place with a little extra flare. Workers were great and friendly. We both picked up a few pieces so that was fun. read more

I really like that idea of Buffalo exchange. The store decoration is really cool and the organization is really spot on. I also really liked the fact that it is a bagless store and they allow the customer to make a donation to a nonprofit with every purchase. With that being said, my problem was the Merchandise available. The pricing is a little excessive considering everything is used. They had shein clothes for 12+ dollars... And I know that The original price probably wasn't even that much. This isn't really a vintage shop, it's more of a quirky Plato's closet. read more

I want to like this place because I like the idea of it, but let me just say this is not the place to sell your clothes. I did my research and looked at a lot of reviews so I thought I had a pretty decent idea of what kind of things they would take. I brought in around 50 items including dresses from Free People and vintage style dresses and skirts from ModCloth that still had the tags on them. I had a few things from places like Target and Old Navy as well, but my haul included things like high waisted jeans and shorts and graphic style shirts in great condition. I knew they weren't going to take everything I brought but I didn't expect them to take NOTHING! I felt like the one employee who looked through my clothes was not even very thorough and rushed through them and all the employees there definitely gave off a snobby attitude. They kind of treated me like I brought in total garbage that no one would want, and I totally understand and respect that it is not what they are looking for in their store right now but most of the stuff I brought in was objectively pretty nice so I didn't appreciate the attitude. I also had to pay almost $5 (with fees) to park on the street. Yes, they do technically have free parking in a garage a little farther back but since I had to make 2 trips to my car to bring all my stuff in (and I wasn't entirely sure where the garage was and if it was free or not because I didn't see any signs) I decided to go with this option but now I wish I didn't because what a waste this experience was. I wish the selling process was a little different, like maybe they even kept your clothes for a day or two and had a designated team of trained people take the time to look through them and get back to you rather than one rushed employee when there is a long line. Another employee literally said "oh my god that's so cute" when she saw one of the dresses I brought in which made me think they would take it. It feels like you are kind of stuck with the biases of whoever is looking at your clothes in the moment and if it isn't their style they will just say no but another employee might have said yes to the same piece. The employee who said they could not take any of my clothes said they were pretty much only taking high waisted jeans and graphic t shirts right now because duh that's what is trendy and I was a little confused because I definitely had some items in my haul that looked like the stuff they described and definitely saw lots of things on the racks that looked similar to the other stuff I brought in. I didn't want to argue with her or anything so I just accepted it and left with all my stuff, but I wish there were clearer descriptions of what they are accepting online. On their website it says they take all brands and lots of things including basics and appears like they would be a lot less picky. In conclusion, I'm not trying to bash this place or their employees because I understand they aren't able to buy items that they don't expect to make money from. My biggest problem was how rushed it felt and the attitude of the people who worked there. I kept seeing in many reviews that the employees are often rude but I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, but when this many reviews are mentioning that issue it's not really a good sign. read more

Mind you I don't live in this state and was only passing by; I went in a few days earlier to sell old clothes I no longer wear. Not sure why they have such a negative look on resellers when 75% of their business is from resellers. Advice if you don't like resellers than you should educate yourself on what products you're selling; I found a pair of pants for $40 that will easily sell for $300+. Stopped by here recently to try and sell some clothes. I had a couple items I'd previously purchased from the store, a few sweaters, new cute fall dresses, etc. and they didn't take a single item out of the huge haul I brought in. I asked if coming back during a different season season with some of my more summery items and they simply told me they take the best of all seasons so that wouldn't be necessary even though I explicitly heard them say, "No, that's the wrong season." as I watched them go through my items.
