The location of this place is great, and we decided to dine here given we could enjoy outside on the street while Broadway was closed. The food however was subpar. The chips and guac needed more salt and the guac itself was very bland. I ordered the ground beef tacos and they tasted pretty awful. Too much filler and I didn't even want to finish one. The presentation of all the food was nice though. The service was not great but it seemed to only be a husband and wife duo who were managing the tables, so I can understand how that would be difficult. My tacos were phenomenal!!! We ordered to go and were given the food within 10 minutes. Inside was clean and fairly empty but well decorated- I love the yellow walls. The steak was well-seasoned and cooked to my taste, the chicken was palatable and tender (I am very picky with chicken), and the pastor was the winner as it was bursting with flavor and melted in my mouth. My only complaints: I wish I had gotten more and when I went to use my lime, I saw it had already been squeezed out. I did not taste any lime in my tacos, so I think I was simply given a used lime on accident. It was a bummer, as I love lime on my tacos. So for this reason alone I have to give 4 stars. Is trying to eat at all the Mexican places in Chicago doable? I think it's a hard thing to complete. So let me get into it! The food at Buena Vista Restaurant was surprisingly good! My friend and I got the nachos as I have to say it's was great. The temperature and the freshness of the dish made you want to have another plate of it. I got the three taco dinner and I was happy that I got that since I normally get it at other places. The services was as expected as it is a small finally owned business so we had to be patient which isn't a problem for me at all. The atmosphere was like you were back in time. It's refreshing since not many places are like that. I like retro places and to me it felt like back in the day. Pretty solid Mexican spot in Lake View. I got the mixed cheese enchiladas with beans and rice & everything was tasty. My personal favorite was the mole enchilada. The service was quick & the workers were friendly. However, I am knocking off one star because, while the flavor was good, the verde and suiza enchiladas could have used more sauce. This little space on Broadway features very good Mexican American food in a low-key environment. They do a bustling to-go business, and also have a handful of tables. The nachos were good, and almost like chili on refried bean-covered chips, served with a corn tortilla cop of sour cream and guacamole. The mole sauce is quite good. Been waking past this place for the last three years and finally got a chance to grab some tacos. We had the pleasure of taking advantage of the Broadway street closure and eating in the streets. High fives to the wait staff. Having a surge of people to wait on after being takeout only is a major change. They did a great job circulating to get people served and checked out. We got the Chile's rellenos which were excellent and the steak and chicken tacos. Not in love with the steak taco but the chicken was really good. Knocking a star because the tacos needed some type of sauce or crema. I asked for hot sauce and only the salsas were offered. While my husband liked the salsas, the green is made with cilantro and the red has parts of cilantro mixed in. I have that gene where cilantro tastes like soap sooo it's a no go for me. Buena Vista is a low-key, well-priced and authentic Mexican restaurant, and would definitely recommend checking it out! I got the burrito with al pastor (just the burrito, not the full meal which comes with sides), and it was really tasty. For only $9, it was more than enough food for one meal, and had a good amount of meat inside along with cheese, tomato, sour cream, lettuce and beans. The restaurant also provides chips and salsa to start. My friend got the taco salad which looked fantastic - it had a great variety of fillings (including guac) inside a delicious looking crunchy bowl. This is my husband's go-to for good Mexican food, and as he's a transplanted Los Angeleno, he's picky! It's a lovely little family-run joint, which means sometimes they do close for a week or two for vacations, but it's small price to pay for having a real family business in the area. The prices have gone up more than seems reasonable, so he doesn't go as often anymore, but the weekday lunch special is a good deal, and again, the food really is terrific. Easily my favorite Mexican restaurant in the city thus far. I've been here multiple times now (more than I can count) and I've enjoyed it every time. The servers are very friendly and the food is outstanding and delicious for the price you pay. I love the BYOB policy - I usually bring some XX or Corona, which is the perfect accompaniment to the food here. My go-to is either the Mini Chimichangas or the Quesadillas - both really good. I also love the Queso Fundido with chorizo as well as the guacamole and fajitas. The placemats are great - you can learn some Spanish while you wait on your food (although not much since the food comes out so quickly!). The actual restaurant is very small though, but I've never had too long of a wait. They take reservations! The outside seating on the sidewalk is my favorite though when the weather is nice. Quite possibly the best thing about meeting my girlfriend is the proximity (and introduction) to Buena Vista. You walk in, and you're hit with the aromas of authentic Mexican flavor and the vibe is spot on. As someone who gets chipotle 5x a week, I feel well positioned to comment on the true spirit of this establishment. Food- We get tacos, and of the 9 times we've eaten here in the last 2 months, they never fail to amaze. Chips & guac are pricey and worth every penny. The chips come out heated, and warm my soul with every crunch. Service- My first meal with BV was our 3rd date, dining in and the service was perfect. You love to eat at a place where the people waiting your table seem genuinely pleased to be at your service. Even in the brief carry out exchanges, no matter who happens to be taking payment on a given day, they are always just as pleasant as the first server I appreciated so much. I am so confused by all the positive reviews for this place. I picked up takeout here and I have to say it was both overpriced and overrated. I ordered the steak fajitas, which also happened to be the most expensive item on the menu. The food was cold, the portions were on the stingy side, the meat was rubbery, the guacamole had a strange slimy texture, and even the rice was hard (and it also seemed to contain partially frozen peas and corn). As someone who has tried nearly every other Mexican restaurant in Lakeview, this place ranks among the worst I have ever experienced.
