The food was amazing and the service was excellent. BYOB as well. Recommend the guac and enchiladas verdes. read more

Outdoor seating when Broadway is pedestrian only is always a plus. Genuine sincere service is also appreciated so is the complimentary chips and salsa. The Asado de puerco was genuinely tasty - good sauce, fair pricing and nice portions. So why the 4 stars? Well I had the Camarones ala Mexicana. The tomato sauce completely overshadowed the shrimps - there is No seafood taste. A good dish but I might as well had chicken with that. Otherwise they still have taco Tuesday those are always good. read more

The location of this place is great, and we decided to dine here given we could enjoy outside on the street while Broadway was closed. The food however was subpar. The chips and guac needed more salt and the guac itself was very bland. I ordered the ground beef tacos and they tasted pretty awful. Too much filler and I didn't even want to finish one. The presentation of all the food was nice though. The service was not great but it seemed to only be a husband and wife duo who were managing the tables, so I can understand how that would be difficult. My sister enjoyed her quesadillas so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. read more

Best enchiladas hands down! The lunch special is very reasonably priced. Nice environment and attentive service.

My company ordered us food from this restaurant. A BIG ORDER! I ordered a tostada dinner. The shells were soft, like I ordered a taco dinner?! The food looks like it was just thrown on the tortilla. The tortillas tasted terrible! A Tostada shell is supposed to be hard! I thought it would still taste good. It did not! Tasted terrible as well!! Would not recommend this place, maybe for the horchata!! read more

Very good food and service :) I love their beans so much, I get an extra order! Would come again. read more

My tacos were phenomenal!!! We ordered to go and were given the food within 10 minutes. Inside was clean and fairly empty but well decorated- I love the yellow walls. The steak was well-seasoned and cooked to my taste, the chicken was palatable and tender (I am very picky with chicken), and the pastor was the winner as it was bursting with flavor and melted in my mouth. My only complaints: I wish I had gotten more and when I went to use my lime, I saw it had already been squeezed out. I did not taste any lime in my tacos, so I think I was simply given a used lime on accident. It was a bummer, as I love lime on my tacos. So for this reason alone I have to give 4 stars. Otherwise, I am eager to return. read more

Is trying to eat at all the Mexican places in Chicago doable? I think it's a hard thing to complete. So let me get into it! The food at Buena Vista Restaurant was surprisingly good! My friend and I got the nachos as I have to say it's was great. The temperature and the freshness of the dish made you want to have another plate of it. I got the three taco dinner and I was happy that I got that since I normally get it at other places. The services was as expected as it is a small finally owned business so we had to be patient which isn't a problem for me at all. The atmosphere was like you were back in time. It's refreshing since not many places are like that. I like retro places and to me it felt like back in the day. Overall, I will say give BVR a try if you want authentic food with a charming wait staff. read more

The best chicken burrito in town! 10/10 I always call for takeout and ask for extra sauce. Staff is super nice and burrito is ready in 10min after I call in. read more

Good Mexican spot in Lakeview! Its more of a casual homey vibe but the food hits the spot and the portions are very large. They have tacos, burritos, fajitas, enchiladas, any Mexican food you are craving. read more

Casual and homey neighborhood spot for some tasty Mexican eats at reasonable prices. I recently moved from Los Angeles to Chicago and was a bit worried that I would struggle to find some good Mexican food in my new neighborhood. I worried for nothing, because Buena Vista is muy bien. Everything we ordered was fresh and tasty. Good portions and good service added to the overall experience and I'll certainly be back soon! read more

Pretty solid Mexican spot in Lake View. I got the mixed cheese enchiladas with beans and rice & everything was tasty. My personal favorite was the mole enchilada. The service was quick & the workers were friendly. However, I am knocking off one star because, while the flavor was good, the verde and suiza enchiladas could have used more sauce. I like my enchiladas drenched in sauce!! read more

For context, I went here on a Sunday double date and it really is the perfect type of environment for that. I got the chicken tostada and the steak taco. I would definitely come back and get the Tostado again because it was incredible. It's a really good deal because so many Mexican restaurants are making you pay extra for rice and beans lately and this place is very affordable. Great service and overall dinner or lunch spot with complimentary chips! read more

This little space on Broadway features very good Mexican American food in a low-key environment. They do a bustling to-go business, and also have a handful of tables. The nachos were good, and almost like chili on refried bean-covered chips, served with a corn tortilla cop of sour cream and guacamole. The mole sauce is quite good. Perhaps our favorite item was the tamale, which was definitely the most authentic Mexican preparation of anything we tried. Food prep is very fast, and service is friendly. It's BYOB. read more

Excellent burritos (and a mole sauce to die for). I love going to Buena Vista during Dine Out on Broadway, but they have a nice, small indoor eating area year round. I find that their burritos are a little smaller than others in the area, but they are absolutely delicious and worth the money. Good service too! read more

Wanted to introduce a friend from another country to authentic Mexican food and only had a short window, no time to travel to the west side. THIS IS THE SPOT. Juicy, perfectly seasoned, delicious. Family owned, will speak to you in Spanish. As good as it can get for authentico in LP/Lakeview area. read more

Been waking past this place for the last three years and finally got a chance to grab some tacos. We had the pleasure of taking advantage of the Broadway street closure and eating in the streets. High fives to the wait staff. Having a surge of people to wait on after being takeout only is a major change. They did a great job circulating to get people served and checked out. We got the Chile's rellenos which were excellent and the steak and chicken tacos. Not in love with the steak taco but the chicken was really good. Knocking a star because the tacos needed some type of sauce or crema. I asked for hot sauce and only the salsas were offered. While my husband liked the salsas, the green is made with cilantro and the red has parts of cilantro mixed in. I have that gene where cilantro tastes like soap sooo it's a no go for me. I love a good refried bean, and theirs were on point. Will definitely be back for those Chile rellenos! read more

Buena Vista is a low-key, well-priced and authentic Mexican restaurant, and would definitely recommend checking it out! I got the burrito with al pastor (just the burrito, not the full meal which comes with sides), and it was really tasty. For only $9, it was more than enough food for one meal, and had a good amount of meat inside along with cheese, tomato, sour cream, lettuce and beans. The restaurant also provides chips and salsa to start. My friend got the taco salad which looked fantastic - it had a great variety of fillings (including guac) inside a delicious looking crunchy bowl. Buena Vista has a good amount of variety on their menu, and I'll definitely be back to try some of their other options! read more

Had to come back to write another amazing review for this place. My fiancé and I took my mom for her first time here - she thought it was delicious. Great food awesome service. Everyone is so polite and kind. Great little spot to pop in and get a quick bite. Super fair prices too.

This is my husband's go-to for good Mexican food, and as he's a transplanted Los Angeleno, he's picky! It's a lovely little family-run joint, which means sometimes they do close for a week or two for vacations, but it's small price to pay for having a real family business in the area. The prices have gone up more than seems reasonable, so he doesn't go as often anymore, but the weekday lunch special is a good deal, and again, the food really is terrific. Warm and welcoming people as well. read more

Our family is from Texas, and we found that Buena Vista satisfies our Mexican food cravings. The mini chimichangas were the perfect appetizer. Easily my favorite Mexican restaurant in the city thus far. I've been here multiple times now (more than I can count) and I've enjoyed it every time. The servers are very friendly and the food is outstanding and delicious for the price you pay. I love the BYOB policy - I usually bring some XX or Corona, which is the perfect accompaniment to the food here. My go-to is either the Mini Chimichangas or the Quesadillas - both really good. I also love the Queso Fundido with chorizo as well as the guacamole and fajitas. The placemats are great - you can learn some Spanish while you wait on your food (although not much since the food comes out so quickly!). The actual restaurant is very small though, but I've never had too long of a wait. They take reservations! The outside seating on the sidewalk is my favorite though when the weather is nice. With the combination of the quality and speed of service, the food, the price, and the BYOB policy, I recommend Buena Vista to everyone! read more

Great small spot for Mexican food. About 8 tables of 4 so good for small to medium sized groups. Ordered al pastor and steak tacos which were great! I also added an order of the elote, which I highly recommend. Would've taken photos of the elote, but it did not last long Portions are great; I like to eat and this was definitely enough to satisfy even me. Can't wait to try out the other foods available but definitely a great place for tacos and friends! Parking: street, paid Seating: 1-4 people per table. 8 tables read more

I am so confused by all the positive reviews for this place. I picked up takeout here and I have to say it was both overpriced and overrated. I ordered the steak fajitas, which also happened to be the most expensive item on the menu. The food was cold, the portions were on the stingy side, the meat was rubbery, the guacamole had a strange slimy texture, and even the rice was hard (and it also seemed to contain partially frozen peas and corn). As someone who has tried nearly every other Mexican restaurant in Lakeview, this place ranks among the worst I have ever experienced. Pictured is the steak fajita meal that I paid around $24 for after taxes and tip. To say it wasn't worth it is an understatement. Maybe it was a fluke? Who knows. I want to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt but what I received was barely edible... read more

Quite possibly the best thing about meeting my girlfriend is the proximity (and introduction) to Buena Vista. You walk in, and you're hit with the aromas of authentic Mexican flavor and the vibe is spot on. As someone who gets chipotle 5x a week, I feel well positioned to comment on the true spirit of this establishment. Food- We get tacos, and of the 9 times we've eaten here in the last 2 months, they never fail to amaze. Chips & guac are pricey and worth every penny. The chips come out heated, and warm my soul with every crunch. Service- My first meal with BV was our 3rd date, dining in and the service was perfect. You love to eat at a place where the people waiting your table seem genuinely pleased to be at your service. Even in the brief carry out exchanges, no matter who happens to be taking payment on a given day, they are always just as pleasant as the first server I appreciated so much. Safe to say I genuinely look forward to seeing their friendly staff when we carry out. Thank you Buena Vista for being our reliable, local, speedy, tasty, and friendly go-to for Mexican! read more

Great atmosphere, and they had AIR CONDITIONING! Ahhhh, the little things ;-)

The staff is great-very welcoming! They have been my go to Mexican restaurant for the past year. While I wish the salsas could be a bit more robust in texture, the entrees are amazing. I highly recommend the garlic shrimp. Ridiculously tasty and a good portion of food. A solid choice if you've got a jones for good Mexican food. read more

Excellent BYOB spot! Very affordable, great tasting Mexican food. The salsa & chips had a kick to them (your first basket is complimentary). Very disappointed. Elote was too watery. They added way too much mayonnaise. Pozole didn't have any flavor. It tasted like it's been sitting for days. Too oily. The burrito was tasteless. Not even the guacamole was good. Never again. read more
