I went to Buehler's to look for a few items I couldn't find in the other stores I went to the register to check out and come to find out Buehlers Company doesn't accept my insurance card for the groceries I can get with it. I would like say how helpful and professional, Gary is in the Meat department. I asked for help to find a product that was not even in his department, he looked it up and stated if it was not there to come back to him. It was exactly where Gary stated it would be. About a week later I was back at the Meat department to make a purchase needed. Gary came up and asked about the product and if I was successful in finding it? Literally a week later! Today we did our usual shopping for the week early in the morning and with a full cart we couldn't find an operating checkout and was told by one of the three employees doing nothing at the time that the cash register lines open at 8:00 (it was 6:30 at the time). In the past, someone always came over to check us out. Today, after 15 minutes and 3 calls to the service desk, we finally got our groceries out of the store. We were told this is the new policy, namely, no help with checkout before 8AM. We are both in our 70's and were always asked if we needed help loading our car, but that practice has also stopped as the bagger was doing other tasks and apologized for the change in policy and that was all the help he offered. The new store down the street is bigger, cleaner, friendlier, more selection and has friendly employees willing to check us out, yes, even at 6:00 in the morning. We support our local businesses, as we have one ourselves, but it only goes so far. Management needs to try harder, not cut corners, with new competition in the area. read more

I love Whole Foods here where I live but in Wooster, this is the best grocery store, hands down. It's a very large grocery store with a nice organic section. I've never seen so many varieties of cream.... Top drawer. read more

This is your average grocery store. For Wooster, OH it is upscale. Your choices in this town is Walmart, or Buehler's. The hot food bar is not the best. The Oriental food is usually overly salty and had been sitting for quite some time. I gave an extra star for the employees. The are nice, and helpful (with the exception of the meat counter manager, the guy is a grump.). read more

Be very careful when purchasing liquor there. My wife asked for a certain brand of liquor and was sold a bottle that was not what she had requested. Upon returning home and opening the package she realized that was not the product she had requested. When she attempted to exchange the bottle for what she actually requested she was informed that that was not possible due to state liquor laws. We will purchase our liquor elsewhere in the future. read more

Best wedding cake ever! My nephew got married in Indy a few weeks ago to his college sweetheart who happens to be from Wooster, OH. The wedding cakes came from Buehler's and were fabulous. The bride's sister hauled 19 round cakes (yes 19!) all the way from Wooster to Indy, as each table at the reception had its own cake. They were decorated simply and elegantly by Dale at Buehler's and she deserves this special shout out for a job well done. And the cakes tasted as good as they looked - moist and absolutely delicious. read more

Economist Paul Krugman has said that Newt Gingrich is what stupid people believe an intelligent man should sound like. Well, Buehler's Milltown is what small-town Ohioans believe a great supermarket should be. Clearly, those who give this place good reviews have never been anywhere else. Amazingly, it has gone downhill since remodeling. The organization is now ridiculous, and many of the departments seem to carry fewer products than before. The deli on the right side is now barely a deli, more a display of some of the most unappetizing foods ever seen. Beyond that, the bakery has the same old boring stuff it's had for twenty years. Soft breads, over-iced cakes; even the muffins have icing. One can buy various brands of pickles, and cheeses, but someone had the wonderful idea to spread these items all over the store. The liquor and beer department is huge. Not surprising, because since moving here I've found that the local Christians drink more than any group that I've found. Hypocrites, anyone? I probably throw away about five percent of what I purchase in this store because it spoils in a day or two. Moreover, I'm always having to settle for something else rather than what I'd really like. Such as today: No raspberry filled jelly donuts. Out of rice and tapioca pudding. Out of, and seemingly no longer carrying, Canada Dry diet ginger ale. No catfish in the fish department. No crab dip. Out of my favorite brand/flavor of ice cream. Out of (or no longer carrying) Tony Roma's packaged spare ribs. Only once, over fifteen years ago, has anyone from the store come through when I've made a personal request for a product. Now they not only don't get the product, but they never follow through and tell me that they can't. I've seen good supermarkets. Wegmen's, which operates in much of New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, is so superior to Buehler's its silly. They have wonderful prepared foods, a terrific bakery with real bagels, and a deli that has everything one would want. Compared to them, Buehler's is a joke. A joke, though, with a near monopoly, given that Walmart is the only remaining competition. read more

While visiting Wooster the other day, we decided to stop into Buehler's Milltown for a quick grocery trip. What a delightful place with some exceptionally fresh and impressive selections. The produce section was bountiful and just brimming with an array of fruits and veggies that not only were fresh, they appeared tantalizing--love this in a grocery store. The bakery was our next spot and we ended up purchasing some store made cupcakes and bread and also 2 dozen cookies to take back home. These cookies were so good and rivaled my homemade ones! Finally, we headed over to prepared foods and left with some soups and salad. The store is impeccably clean and the service is top notch. Very great place in Wooster and makes me happy to know that the college students have a good place to shop with many selections and lots of them being organic. read more

Let me recap my most recent trip to Buehler's. A trip that, unfortunately, is way too typical: 1. Encounter a thoroughly picked over bin of corn sitting among a selection of sorry looking produce. All that remained were emaciated cobs with much of the corn missing. 2. Pick out some unappealingly shrink wrapped zucchini. (Who on earth thinks it's a good idea to shrink wrap produce?) 3. Put a $9 bottle of wine into my cart, only to have the annoying wine man appear out of nowhere (as he always does) to tell me that I really should be buying the $16 bottle. 4. Check out with a woman who can barely give me the time of day, and who then allows my fruit to roll down the conveyor belt. 5. Look up to see a price total that ends up way, way higher than I expected it to be. 6. Wait in a six-minute line to pick up my groceries (because this is one of the few stores in America that doesn't trust you to take your cart out of the store). The rushing and overworked sole employee loading groceries then throws the bags into my car, sending fruit all over the back seat. 7. Arrive home to find three of my five apples badly bruised and a gallon of milk that (why didn't I check it -- I should know better by now) was set to expire in just a day. This place just plain sucks. I avoid it whenever possible, traveling to Akron or Cleveland to stock up. Sometimes I think I'm being too harsh, and I should give it another try. Inevitably, I'm reminded just how sucky Buehler's really is. The people who work here seem overworked, underpaid, and unhappy. The produce is gross. And the prices are through the roof. read more

This is probably as good of a grocery store in Wooster that you're going to get. It's a large store so the selection is excellent. They have both organic and conventional produce, and often have large stickers to identify locally grown produce. They even have some Mediterranean foods that you wouldn't think you could find in a small town, like Greek Gods yogurt and haloumi cheese. If you shop there don't forget to sign up for the Advantage Card. You earn $1 of free groceries for every $50 you spend, which is effectively a 2% cash back. Combined with a 1% cash back credit card you can net 3% cash back by shopping there. On the issue of prices, it seems all over the map. Some of the McCormick spices are outrageously priced for example, as is the Greek Yogurt. In other cities I've seen the prices for those two literally be half of what they are in Buehlers. On the other hand, the Our Family store brand is a huge steal. If you like jarred pasta sauce, the Our Family red sauce is insanely cheap and pretty decent for the price you pay. The folks that work there are also very friendly and I've never had a problem with parking and it never feels too crowded. There is no AT&T wireless signal in the store, at least on my iPhone 3GS. read more

Last time I here was over 5 yrs ago. The remodel is fantastic!! The liquor section is huge along with the produce section. Beautiful! Buehlers is a little more expensive but they are one of the last grocery store chains that doubles coupons. They also have the best meat selection!! Other than friendly staff, a fantastic beer and wine selection, liquor store, and Boar's Head deli items, this grocery store doesn't have much to offer besides overpriced staples that are on the verge of expiration. Many of the items in the store (e.g. yogurt and lettuces), are not fresh, and their "use by date" is either past due, or will be going bad the next day. In addition to overpriced, not-so-fresh items, there isn't much variety so you find yourself having to make basic/simple recipes. Also, the food court that recently opened is a nice concept, but the food is inedible. The buffet is nasty looking/smelling, and it's located in the produce section. The last thing I want to smell while shopping for my fruits and veggies, is burning Chinese food. Unfortunately, I don't see any of this changing since Buehler's is perceived to be a high-end store by the locals who don't want to give their business to Wal-mart. Bottom line, if you consider yourself to be a "foodie", or you enjoy cooking, you'll be disappointed with this store, but you'll continue to shop here because the alternative (W-mart) is worse. The owners know that they have a captive audience, so they will continue with stocking their shelves with boring items that are expired, or on the verge of expiration. read more

High prices. My mom bought an apple pie for $9 at the bakery, which they don't bake there, and the apples were hard. One of the apples from my bite was not cored right and I bit into a hard piece of core. They don't care about the quality of their food. They don't pay their employees good wages or benefits. I have called to ask multiple times about various items in stock and I can never get a straight answer. One person will tell me they do have it, another will tell me they don't. Other times they'll tell me they're ordering it, only for me to call a few months later to get a complete opposite answer. The area's best grocery store hands down. Wide selection, charming interior and always clean. Too bad they can't compete price wise with the Wally World next door. I'd rather see my money stay local anyway... One fun fact that savvy shoppers can take advantage of is that Buehler's employees can't turn down any reasonable request. Say you need a three tier cake shaped like an octopus by days end, they will accommodate. They stock a large selection of high quality meats, seafood, produce and baked goods, a massive wine and beer section not to mentions a large variety of coffee beans that smell outrageously delicious when you pass them. Buehler's also has a restaurant with a very reasonably priced breakfast, PNC bank, FTD florist and a UPS store to meet many if not all of your shopping and culinary requisites. I give a standing ovation to their customer service whom day after day deliver with a smile. I wish more businesses operated under the same standard of operating practices. Buehler's sets the mark of standards by which others strive to emulate. read more

An excellent grocery store that, after a year long remodel, has gotten even better. The food court will be offering several different varieties of food. Try the Cuban sandwich . The wine and beer area has been expanded and now includes a wine bar and beer growler. Buehlers has become more than a grocery store. It's now a destination. I love this store at Christmas! They have beautiful decorations inside and out during the holiday season. I came in on Christmas Eve once and they had carolers! They have a huge selection of beer/wine/liquor, and I love browsing through that section. I found Warsteiner Dunkel here, which is my favorite beer and generally pretty hard to come by. You won't find a better beer expert than the guy that usually runs this department. I think his name is Alan- he's great!! read more

If I was writing this review a year ago, it would have been 5 stars but not since the remodel/ restructuring. I used to get amazing customer service but recently every time I go in I have dealt with RUDE employees. The new "restaurant" is a joke. It is pretty much just a convenient way for their employees to get their lunch now. I don't really want to eat from a buffet that is just in the middle of the store... It seems like the just didn't know where to put it. The buffet is in some what of as high traffic area and i can't put my finger in it but it just seems gross. I had a Cuban from the new sandwich area. I threw half of it away. It was disgusting. I got a foldover from the pizza area. The employees put it in the oven to reheat it but it came out cold. They were more interested in gossiping than service. I used to pay a little more a buehlers because I got service for it. Not anymore. read more

Overpriced, poor selection of items, produce not very fresh, meats marked up, you have to get an arbitrary member's card to see any good discounts (really, why add another step to the transaction?). Since the remodel, I have been disappointed by Buehler's. I do not recommend you buy their meat or produce. I have had to throw out meat on several occasions. In searching for fresh produce, I have found moldy items on their shelves. Your money is better spent downtown where the business owners seem to care more about the quality of their product rather than a bottom line. read more
