Practicar Car & Truck Rentals

Practicar Car & Truck Rentals

***** FIVE STARS *****…read more If you want to save hundreds of dollars for a one week rental, and don't mind not driving a brand new rental car... then PractiCar is an excellent choice! My wife and I visit Victoria about once per year. Before we discovered PractiCar, we would fly into YYJ (Victoria International) - which is up near the town of Sidney on the north Saanich Penninsula. When we landed, we would go to one of the majors (Hertz, Budget, National, etc.) and rent a vehicle. If you've researched this, you most likely found out how expensive it is to rent a car up there. We were paying in the neighborhood of $750 per week. When we planned this trip, we agreed that we'd try to save some money on the car rental. We called about 10 companies, and the best price (by far) was from PractiCar. The manager, Tina, is extremely friendly and accommodating. She met us at the Kenmore Air Sea Plane terminal in Victoria Inner Harbour when we landed. We were greeted as if she was an old friend, and she loaded our luggage into the trunk (refusing my offer to help her). We all hopped in the car, and within five minutes were at the PractiCar World Headquarters, well, Tina's small but efficient office. Filling out the paperwork was a breeze, and Tina then walked us out to the car - about a 30 second walk. We all walked around the car looking for dings, dents, etc. - all of which were marked down. Tina showed us the inside, pointing out where the important things were. She went over everything, even giving us tips on where to park, etc. The price for one week? $242. Now, in order to get this super low price... we utilized (actually, stumbled upon) what we now reer to as, "Dr. Heidi's Super Friendly and Early Booking Discount". Basically, this means: A. We were very friendly (the "friendly discount"), and B. We made this reservation about TWO MONTHS IN ADVANCE. If you are planning a vacation in Victoria (or surrounding) I recommend you do the same. Don't forget to ask for this particular discount. :) On a serious and real note, choosing to rent a car from Tina saved us a very real $500 for our one week vacation. Think about it... that's a lot of "pints", nice restaurants, money toward travel (airfare, gas, hotels), etc. YYJ (Airport) TIP: If you are flying into Victoria International Airport (YYJ), you might consider taking a taxi (unfortunately, no UBER up there yet) to meet Tina at PractiCar. It's about a 25 minute drive. My guess is even after the roundtrip taxi fare, you will still end up saving a few hundred dollars (for a week+ vacation). I know that the next time we are pre-planning a trip up to Victoria, one of the first calls we will make is to Tina. I know she will set us up nicely, and I'm certain that she will do the same for you! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

They were staying at the Fairmont Empress, so I called and spoke to the Avis agent at the airport. She told me Avis had a partnership with Budget, and there would be no problem for them to drop the car at the Budget office/parking at the Fairmont Empress conference centre. I then phoned Budget to confirm this and was assured that if they simply changed their drop off location online, they could simply turn in the car upon arrival and leave it in an allocated Budget parking space when they had checked in. They arrived at 9:00 pm after driving all the way from Tofino. They had called twice during business hours while en route to ensure this arrangement was okay. No one at Budget answered the phone, but they left 2 messages, neither of which was returned. Today, after all this misinformation & unreturned phone calls, they learned that they will have to waste a day of their precious vacation to return the car to the airport 22 miles away, and then have to pay over $50 to take a taxi back into the city. TERRIBLE WAY TO DO BUSINESS - I WILL NEVER BOOK THROUGH AVIS OR BUDGET AND DO NOT RECOMMEND THEIR SERVICES
