We rented a Budget car from Victoria airport and turned it in to the downtown location on Douglas St. The airport counter was super easy to find when we collected our baggage at the airport. The front desk person was very friendly, efficient, and helpful with advice and suggestions when we told him of our plan to drive to Tofino. It was greatly appreciated! The car was a brand new 2025 Prius with low miles. We loved the car. Turning it in was easy, thanks to the detailed instructions we were given by the airport person. The gentleman working the desk downtown was equally efficient and friendly. I'd highly recommend Budget and will use them again, for our next trip up. read more

I would give a zero if I could. Girlfriend rents a car in Victoria for 48 hrs rental. Drops it off at the airport all is good, no one inspects or does walk around. The next day their's a voicemail saying their is a crack on the windshield. They ask for what happened we said we saw no crack on the windshield. They send us a photo of a crack directly on the tinted area where the rear view mirror is. Kind of get how we could have missed it when we picked it up, I guess. But in working automotive for over a decade I know that a crack doesn't travel like that in under 48 hours unless there is a massive spider crack. This windshield was cracked / chipped when I got it, and now they are charging me to replace their already damaged windshield. Anyway, hear nothing for just about a month then get a voicemail that my credit card is being charged $1150 for a windshield on a base Corolla. $1010 for the windshield, a $75 admin fee you know to take the time to charge me, and loss of use of $65. I called around and got quotes from multiple shops for under $400 installed. So long story short highly avoid Budget rental car at Victoria airport. They obviously are poor at inspecting their cars, then will pin the damage on the next innocent customer at absolutely ridiculously inflated repair prices. The previous time I rented a Budget vehicle was an okay customer experience. They sometimes have limited inventory of different types of vehicles. The face to face customer service interaction was no issue. I required only a small car to drive myself around and they were out of that class of vehicles. They offered a full sized sedan and that was too much car for my needs. They then told me the other vehicles that had were work trucks and was definitely too much vehicle for my needs. They then told me the only other vehicles they had were moving cube trucks of different sizes. This was not going to fully my needs. I ended up renting the full sized sedan that looked like some sort of undercover police sedan car and it really was thirsty for fuel consumption. I did not want to waste time travelling to another Budget rental location. The cost of the car rental was about the same level as any other car rental company. read more

I was booked a car through the dealership Feb 14 2023. The customer service guy Amol was very helpful but was only one in the place so did not have enough time to walk me through complete console and Bluetooth set uo..no worries. The next day though I went out- I guess I hit the trunk button! I'm driving- thus warning light comes on console. I'm having WORST DAY EVER . I pull over. OH WHERE are the hazards..ok. got it..I Google budget..call them..I'm so freaking..the guy answers..I'm trying to take a picture of the light so I can just send him what I'm looking at- traffic is driving around me- honking- pissed off- I'm talking to him- I said something like "wtf going on"! She's telling me to calm down..I tell her I don't need her young ass to tell me to calm down (I'm 60)...I'm having the WORST day- OMG- yes car is fine thankyou..goodbye..click..I get in..carry on.....ok..later I'm driving home..the same earlier guy calls back..something about Budget reservations received a call about the car breaking down BS...I say. POORLY ORGANIZED: I needed a car to make the long drive up to the interior for a medical emergency. I called a day ahead to ensure I could pick up a car in time to make an early ferry and was assured that someone would open up the tiny office on Douglas. No one showed up. It was half an hour later that an attendant drove in with apparently no clue about the rental. NON-EXISTENT COMMUNICATION; During the time I was waiting I was calling the Budget number which apparently goes to the airport location which is linked to this location. No one answered because no one was there either, but the message makes it sound like you will be served asap. My stress levels were then rising. POOR VALUE FOR EXPENSE The car I requested was not available and the completely unapologetic attendant only had a gas guzzling Lincoln SUV to rent out. Comfy, but doubled(at the least) my fuel bill. REPEAT "POOR COMMUNICATION" I never did get a call-back on my messages from that morning, so you can say I was concerned when I needed to extended the rental. I finally got through to someone at the end of the return day with assurances that the extension was OK'd for a reasonable daily fee and a guarantee that a manager would call back to respond to my concerns regarding the rental. I did get a callback, thankfully, and I was assured that the extension would be a fixed amount with a complimentary day. BEWARE HIDDEN CHARGES; Upon returning the vehicle, I realized that there was no complimentary day and the receipt which apparently is optional held a additional charges that I was not expecting. I should have reviewed the OPTIONAL receipt with the manager but by this time I was exhausted from my trip and ordeal with this company and walked away. I will never book a vehicle from Budget Victoria ever again. read more

But what a surprise comparing to reality. So be aware and read on: Stay away from Budget Car Rental in Victoria BC! This company doesn't honor their online reservation at all. Charges more than double of their own quote. I booked a car from Victoria Budget Car Rental's own website, for my wife to pick up at Victoria airport on Dec 4, 2015. Budget formally quotes CAN$214.61 for 1 week, with all the details and a confirmation # 21609197CA1. When my wife arrived on time and went to pick up the booked car, Budget changes her more than $400. She tried to argue by showing them the printed reservation. Well, that is useless and the Budget employees don't care their company's own quotes. What a bunch of con artists! read more

My experience at Budget was not as it should have been. The car itself was fine, ran well enough (tires needed aligning) but I have other complaints. When I booked the car I was promised one rate, but upon return and final signing, I was surprised to learn that the price I was promised (and had confirmed in person, face to face, more than once) was a lie, hidden charges brought my rate up almost double. The manager was incredibly rude over the phone. This has also happened to one of my Colleagues in the past. We have both learned that we will never risk booking with Budget again. I would highly recommend that you dont go with Budget, stick with one of the other and more trust worthy car rental places in the city. read more

I'd recommend the Douglas Street Budget to rent a car . . . . I've rented twice now in the past six months and both times they exceeded my expectations for service and choice of vehicle. The staff are friendly and efficient, they know you want to get on your way and they deliver. They even pick up and drop off if you phone ahead. They have Prius hybrids if you want to super-save on gas and try electric. The last vehicle was a Subaru Crosstrek AWD which would get you up to Mt. Washington or other out of the way place. Both vehicles were new looking, cleaned and smelled "new car" fresh inside. Dealing with a lost key on the Crosstrek they were compassionate and helpful on the phone, willing to find the master key from another location and come rescue me. Luckily the key was found by Good Samaritan and I didn't have to worry. Shows you can count on them if you are in a pinch. read more

We spontaneously decided to rent a car to go hiking in East Sooke, and the nearest rental place was here. Had a special too for the day rate. Cheapest car was a Toyota. Heated seats and clean. We were happy with it and returned it before end of day. No troubles at all. Very happy with customer service and rental experience. read more

Really? We drive three hours to return our car and: 1. There is no bathroom?? 2. There are multiple steps to schlepp luggage up/down with no ramp?? 3. The person checking us in offers no help w luggage/stairs (I'm 70!!) and sends us two blocks to a convention center to find a bathroom??? I rent cars monthly for my job and this was hands down the worst I've ever been treated by someone greeting me. The car was in perfect shape so there was no issue there. My girlfriend and I wanted to drive up to Buchart Gardens and check out some of the local wineries, so we stopped by here to see how much trouble it would be to rent a car. Turns out that it's no trouble at all. A drivers license and $40 gets you a Prius hybrid for 24 hours, no muss no fuss. The staff were very friendly and helpful, heck, they even mailed me my receipt when I left it sitting in the car. What service, eh? read more

Rented a vehicle this past week in the pouring rain. Did a quick check and all seemed fair enough. Drove to our cottage where the car stayed parked for most of the week. Returned the rental only to get a phone call a few hours later accusing me of damage to bottom of passenger door. There was no damage and so I didn't take pictures because there was nothing to take a picture of. Already sent to claims department before I had a chance to refute the accusation. THey have completely scammed me. If damage occurred it happened after I parked it in their parking lot and turned in the keys... but again, of course I have no proof. Recently I rented a vehicle from the Victoria International Airport. While the experience with the car itself was fine, my experience at checkout was less than that. In particular I am referring to the significant upsell attempts by the female agent who served us. Upon confirming our reservation for pick up the individual asked me a number of questions including what vehicle I drive at home (a van) and then suggested I might prefer a SUV even though only two of us would be using the car and what I had reserved was more than adequate. When I declined saying it wasn't necessary I discovered she wasn't suggesting I would be upgraded as has occurred with rentals from other companies, but rather she suggested I should get a larger vehicle which was totally unnecessary and obviously more expensive. When it was clear this would not be an option she then went about trying to sell me additional coverage such as the Loss Damage Waiver, Personal Accident Insurance, Personal Effects Insurance, Roadside Safety Net, Excess Automobile Liability Insurance. My wife was listening nearby and she was shocked at the brazen attempt to scare me into buying additional coverage so I would be "safe". Unfortunately for the agent I had coverage through my own personal vehicle insurance as well as through my credit card. And so I left feel quite upset that such an extreme approach was taken by a staff member. I thought this was probably just an overzealous agent but upon returning the vehicle for checkout I noticed a different agent, a male, doing the same thing to another client but this time with success. This has been my first and I anticipate last time I will rent a vehicle with Budget Victoria and perhaps Budget Car and Truck Rental as my experience has been much less than appreciated. And It doesn't say anything about it when you book. So we called enterprise! They gladly take the money from an "N" driver. But, because we booked it last minute it cost us more. Thank you budget! I reserved a hybrid but didnt get one. They then tried to tell me it was similar...its wasnt electric at all....i specifally asked for a hybrid so i could budget my trip as efficiently as i could afford...i ended up paying twice the amount i wanted too in gas (the car i payed for and wanted does around 20 more miles to the gallon) i was then told to wait and see if the right car turns up, which i couldnt as i had to catch a ferry and obviously chose that pick up time for reason. During the trip i noticed trash and a bottle of water which had been left in there from the previous user, they clearly arent following strict COVID cleaning procedures. When i dropped off the car i was promised some compensation for the mix up...i looked at my statement today, still no refund and they have charged me $30!!!! Like seriously budget?? Get your s**t together. I always use to use you guys...im going to use another company from now on. Your customer service and standards suck. read more

My husband and I travel often and it was by far the worst car rental experience ever. We were supposed to be entitled for work discount, and the staff said OK. However later through checking our credit card record, we figured that she didn't give us the discount we were entitled to, also the payment was messy and was charging extra. We then spent a couple hours speaking to the administrator, who ended up was not helpful. Then we had to run back to the Budget car rental shop to clarify the situation with their staff. They seemed understanding and said that they'll correct their mistake on our payment. They said that everything will be straightened out when we checkout at the Victoria airport's Budget car rental shop before our flight. Next morning we got to the Budget car rental at the Victoria airport, the payment is STILL not corrected. The staff said she has No authority to change anything anything for us. We wasted so much time dealing with mistakeS they made and we were almost late for our flight. People make mistakes and there's OK, but continuously avoid correcting mistake and put their customers in such frustrating situation is absolutely unacceptable. read more
