I wanted to believe that all the YELP reviews were wrong. Why did I think 100+ 1.5 star reviews were all wrong? Ugh. The check out wasn't bad. The lady wasn't friendly but customer service wasn't something she excelled in. She charged me $258 in "incidentals", when I inquired why so high, she said "You'll get it back when you return the car." Budget and Avis are the only 2 rentals places at Burbank that open at 5:30a. I came at 5am to get in line to return car. 6 cars in line. I'm 2nd. They took first car and fourth car. Did I mention I was 2nd? What the heck? I asked if there was a reason he took the car 2 cars behind me and he just looked at me. It was 5:25a. I asked him if he could inspect my car. He said inspections start at 5:30am. So I asked him what he did with the cars at 5:10am (cars 1 and 4) and he said "Check them in." I said "So basically, they're turned in?" and he said "Yes." So not sure what's the difference between "Turned in" and "Inspected" so I just left my keys on the dash and left and while I was walking to the airport it got notification that my car was turned in. While waiting for said guy to come back and turn in/inspect my car, the 3rd car guy and I were chatting and told me next time ask for a hybrid so I don't waste much gas (I was given a Jeep Compass). I flew from Austin to Los Angeles to help my ailing 92-year-old mother who is nearly blind has severe arthritis and mobility issues. - At the airport, the Budget/Avis agent assured me that the Ford Mustang Mach-E I had confirmed was not available and it says "or similar" - He offered two smaller EVs, either a Kia or a Hyundai with no price adjustment. The listed rate of the Mach-E was $140. - In the lot, I notice near the smaller EVs that there were two Mach-Es - After a haggle the agent relented and allowed me to drive the Mach-E, I had confirmed and paid for ahead of time for 7 days. - Found out it was very difficult to charge an EV in the areas near my hotel or near where my mom lived. Spent hours searching online, finding broken chargers, very long waiting lines or private chargers. - Called Budget to switch to a gas vehicle and was told no problem and no extra charge, return the EV and pick up a similar ICE SUV. - When I returned the Mach-E, the agent, Evelyn decided to rent me a small SUV listed for $70 on their website at that time. - I asked for a similar car with a similar rate. Evelyn refused and became dismissive. She offered me a Mazda CX5, again listed on their website at $70 not the $140 rate of the one I returned. - With no choice or options, I drove the Mazda for the next 5 days. It did not have navigation and made my drives with my mom around LA a lot more difficult and time consuming. - Once back home, I called Budget so-called "customer service". I first talked to Andrea, she refused to allow me to speak to a supervisor. After asking several questions she put me on hold for over 12 mins. She came back and claimed that the rates change often. When I told her that I showed Evelyn the rates using my laptop, she promptly hang-up on me in mid-sentence. - I called back and got agent Valencia. She said she could see that my earlier call was disconnected. She wanted to hear all of it from the start. Again, as I was explaining the rate difference, she also hang-up on me in mid-sentence. I should add that I am an AARP member and used the AARP link to reserve on Budget's website. It also says that I am eligible for a free upgrade. What I got was a down-grade and no charge adjustment.   As many before me have recommended, do not rentle. from Budget/Avis since they are shameless dishonest scammers. NB. Offered "Fastbreak" to skip the lines at pickup. They asked for all my info including DL and Credit Card. As soon as I entered the info, they charged me for the week's rental without asking. Do not rent from here! When I was given a car, it was filthy! All sorts of dirt and debris on the floor, car was not washed, stains on the seats, and interior panels. You've got to be kidding me. I complained, and instead of giving me a replacement vehicle, they make me wait 30 minutes, give me the same vehicle cleaned half ass, still stains on the seats and interior panels, just vacuumed poorly. The SUV we rented was perfect for our cross-country 16-day trip! We drove it 3,500 miles!! It was almost new, had very low mileage, was clean, had no mechanical problems at all, had wireless connectivity and was so comfortable! It also got better expected gas mileage. Budget Car Rental- If 0 stars were an option I would rate 0. They are unable to guarantee cars with a reservation because Burbank location is sold out. They also are charging cancellation fees with more than 24 hours notice even though the reservation says no cancellation fee unless it is under 24 hours. I rented from this location and dropped off my rental at the long beach location. Full tank no damage etc. A week has passed and they sent me an email stating they are charging me 450 dollars for excessive cleaning because of some sand on the floor mats. Not excessive just what would come off your shoes at the beach. Scam! Don't rent from this company if you have an alternative. Their representative also didn't give me a name and just said my rental agreement covers "excessive cleaning". Which is completely subjective. Vehicle was perfect, clean and drove us around. The problem is that Budget has a kiosk with a huge BUDGET company sign with no sign telling you the line for a reserved BUDGET car is over at the AVIS rental booth. We waited and waited and waited. Asked for help at another booth lo and behold a man appears at Budget. Does he assist us? No. Is he friendly? No. Does he enjoy his job? Doesn't appear so. He tells us to go to the Avis line!. This is sad and unfortunately because we need the rental car, and he knows that, he can behave like he doesn't care because he does not care. The young lady at the AVIS counter was helpful and sweet. I am not blaming the employee, I believe that they were just doing their job. But this predatory practice from budget is unacceptable. This is definitely one of the worst budget locations I've ever been to two people working the desks for budget Avis, and I think one other car rental company moving at a snails pace and when I get up there, the employees says I can move as slow as I want & Told me he doesn't have to help me if he doesn't want to so I canceled my reservation and went over to enterprise. I paid a little bit more money, but you know what the customer service was excellent and I was in and out in less than five minutes and been waiting in line for 17 minutes, and dealing with poor customer service from budget...never again and I can't believe you hire lazy employees who talk to customers like this. read more

TERRIBLE COMPANY! If I could give this 0 stars, I would. My sisters & I unfortunately couldn't control the delay that we had from Las Vegas to Burbank, but we didn't think anything of it. We came all this way from Houston to this small airport and the fact that Budget was CLOSED by the time we got there (mind you, we put we'd pick up the car by 10:30 but didn't arrive til after 11 PM, but obviously we can't control that)...we were and still are PISSED about this situation. We had to spend money on a Lyft when we shouldn't have had to do so! How dare y'all put time frames from 10:30-11:30 PM IF NO ONE IS GOING TO BE THERE? And then an Enterprise employee told us that you guys do this ALL THE TIME? That's a shame. DO BETTER. Terrible service and unethical company at this location. 1. Reserved a Tesla long range for the road trip and it was not a long range 2. It was dirty inside 3. It didn't have an adapter inside in case if I need to use it. 4. Staff didn't have correct passcode for the glove box and told me to just not to use it. When persisted it took them a long time to find out. So I waited an hour for both getting a passcode and an adapter. 5. The charges were not itemized on the app at the end. When called to asked for an itemized items, I got the same confusing bill I can see on the account on the app. 6. Almost 3 months the alter, they charged my credit card over $333 with no bill or itemized items sent to me. Very shady practices. Stay away from this place. When I called the budget Burbank customer service and talked to Dhillon on 4/21 around 4:20pm PST, he claimed that Budget doesn't charge me but Tesla charged me and to call Tesla. They won't give any itemized bills they got from Tesla and can't explain why it's being charged after 3 months later. He hanged up when I asked to speak to his supervisor. I also called and talked to a customer service and she agreed to send me the receipt. However, the receipt I received is the one I already got. Nobody was able to produce the so called charges for supposedly from the Tesla charging stations. Very unethical company. I'll be calling my lawyer about this shady business. read more

I reserved an economy car but when I arrived to pick up my car, I was told none were available. In fact, the person said he has not had an economy car or anything like that for months! I even called the previous day to make sure my car would be available and was told this will not be a problem! I do not like to be lied to. Why does a company list a car on the website when they have no intention of honoring the request. This feels like fraud. If they had no intention of honoring the reservation, I would then have the opportunity to look elsewhere for the care I actually do want. There is a reason why this place has a 2 star rating. I have been here a couple times before. The first time to return a vehicle. I had so much trouble finding where to leave it, no signs or staff anywhere. When I finally saw someone, the staff was super rude. The second time picking up was great, returning was same without the rude staff- it's just difficult finding where to leave the vehicle if nobody is there to help you- no signs! This third time again picking up was OK. Returning was challenging- but get this, they charged us $250 because the mats on the car had some sand and crackers lol. I have returned cars far dirtier than this, this was just wear and tear, easily cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. But again, this is crappy and nasty staff that doesn't know how to clean floor mats or use a vacuum and we have to pay for their laziness! So beware, make sure you detail the car before returning or you'll get charged $250. I guess they must be trying to recoup their 25% off rentals lol. read more

***Update*** They went ahead and adjusted the charge to reflect, which I definitely appreciate. Cheers to them adjusting and getting it right, while taking ownership. Same thing with a few that have already commented. I declined fuel coverage for the vehicle and filled up the tank around the corner from this location. When I turned it in, I received a charge for $75 for fuel. I was confused and reached out to customer support the next day to resolve. Since I don't have a receipt of me getting gas that amounted to $16 I paid, or a card charge/statement (paid in cash) they are not honoring it. Even though when I checked out the car they put in their system that it is full lol. What a joke. Avoiding Budget in the future for sure, I have rented from just about every big other car rental place and have not dealt with this issue. read more

Hour and a half wait to be told in line they did not have the car we reserved months ago. Was offered an alternative, sure that's fine, but currently waiting outside to be given the car now. No clue how long this will be but they're already to a solid less than one star. They explained to us that the long wait was because they had to "find the cars". Their explanation was that someone outside has to go around the lot and find each car and communicate via walkie talkie to the staff inside... This guy out here is literally grabbing one car at a time... Taking it through a car wash which must be a fair distance, then bringing it to the drop off point... We just yelled at him to please not take the car to wash it and just drop it off. Anyway, still waiting. Edit: Whole time to pick up the car took over 3 hours, tank was at 3/4 full despite their ticket claiming it was full, we reported this, but still they tried to charge us $160 for gas despite the fact we returned it more full that we got it. We mentioned this and showed them photos of the tank gauge and the mileage and they took that charge off while acting like they were doing us a huge favor.... 3 months later received a bill in the mail claiming the vehicle received tire damage while we had it. No way. We called and they quickly took that charge off, but still, waste of our time and sleazy untrustworthy practices. read more

Do not rent a car here EVER! The desk attendants are the worst. They are the slowest I've ever seen and they do not care about expediting customers. It's almost as if they are moving slower than normal knowing everyone in line must wait for them to get vehicles. They bunch multiple car rental places into one line and you cannot access the counters separately. What a joke of efficiency and waste of time. Ridiculous and unnecessary. If I could give this place negative stars I would. I experienced the worst customer service after being sent to Bob Hope Burbank airport because the North Hollywood location where I was originally supposed to pick my car up at credit card machine was down so they offered to drive me to Burbank to complete the process and pick up a car from there. When I got there the black girl at the desk told me I would have to pay 30% extra in airport fees and I was surprised because nobody told me this and none of this was my fault. I stepped away and spoke to customer service on the phone where they made note on my account that they would honor the original price I paid for. They told me to go back to the desk and tell the girl to see the note and proceed to give me a rental. When I got back in line she was short with me even after telling her to look at the note customer service left and said "I don't know what to tell you. I'm not giving you a rental. You have to pay that price." I asked to speak to a manager and she sent me to the 3rd floor where I told them the same thing. I spoke with a Hispanic lady who asked for my reservation number. I told her how I was sent to this location because the other wasn't able to run my credit card because the credit card machine was down. I then was interrupted by an Asian man ..I don't know if he was her head or he just decided to bud in but he was evil as hell for no reason. I kept insisting that they call the other location for proof that their machine was down and that they told me to complete the process and pick up a car at this location. The Asian man and the Hispanic woman refused and kept asking for my reservation number saying it didn't exist. Finally the Asian man stepped away and was using his phone then a short while later came to me and LIED TO MY FACE telling me that he called and that the other locations machine was not down. I said "what are you calling me a liar?" He said "no I'm not calling you a liar but that's what they said." ??? I started crying in frustration because at this point I had been there for an hour and a half and now my phone was dying. I knew he was lying and didn't even call the location. To top it all off he then tells me that they are out of cars. Now my phone is almost dead and I'm stranded over there and none of this is my fault. I've never experienced this type of treatment before. The Asian man was very much racist towards me. I ended up having to catch a bus back to the original location and told the man there what happened. He confirmed that nobody from that location actually called them! Finally their machine was back up and I got my car. I cannot emphasize enough how cruel and dismissive everybody at that location was including the black girl at the main counter. Very unfriendly and unprofessional how they dealt with me in comparison to everybody else renting cars from them that day. Also, the guy from the original location said the Asian man was lying about them not having cars available. By the way my original checkin time for my car was supposed to be 9:30 and after this whole thing I ended up getting a car at 1pm. Totally unacceptable! The inconvenience it caused for what I had planned originally for that day. Nobody should ever have to go through this. Just found out that the man put me on the "Do Not Rent" list. Which further supports this is a case of discrimination. read more

Their early check in system is broken, there's 50-60 people in my line, and there was ONE person at the counter moving slowly. Now there's two. I guess getting a bite to eat before the wedding we're attending is now out. About an hour-long experience IF they move along a little quicker. I'm still in line. Might be late for the wedding at this rate. Still in line. Arrived with 2 hours to spare and a 15 minute drive once we get the car. My son stood in three other rental car lines to see if they had cars available. None. Looks like I'm stuck here for at least 20 more minutes. They should give me the car for half price. My legs are going numb from standing here so long. It's not the two employees at the front who are nice. Looks like I may be calling Uber if I want to get to the wedding. So I called corporate, and was told to go bvk. I got there and no one knew anything about it. So Rodent out to the fleet of rentals & and found my car, the items were still there in the car. I didn't realize it until a day later when I looked at the receipt that the attendant gave me when I returned the car but I was charged for 1.5 gallons of gas. I filled the car less than 3 miles from the airport. I filled the car until the pump shut off, I then added more gas until the pump stopped a second time to ensure the tank was completely filled. This practice of padding the bill is completely dishonest. In the future I will rent from a company that does not intentionally cheat their customers. read more

**Thank you Budget!!** I have rented from Budget at Burbank Airport about 3 times and had a great experience all those times. Most recently, I rented a standard SUV for a decent price. I needed to travel back home to the Bay Area for a funeral and I needed a rental that can hold enough luggage and still be spacious for 4 passengers. I had the Ford Edge in mind and I was hopeful that I would have a chance to choose that if it was an option... Having been a frequent renter with Budget and being a RapizRez/FastBreak member, I was able to go directly to the Fastbreak counter upstairs and pick up my rental. Originally I was assigned a Mistubishi Outlander but was able to easily change it to a Ford Edge. I was glad they could accommodate my request. The rental was great and it made for a comfortable ride up to the Bay. But the most impressive part about my rental experience came after I returned the SUV. I got a call the next morning from Sherry saying they found Ray Ban sunglasses in the rental. They were my mother's sunglasses. I remember going through the car before returning it and again when I got to the rental car facility with my small flashlight to check if I had forgotten anything. But despite that, I still missed it... We are so grateful to Sherry and the staff at Budget/Avis for finding the sunglasses, contacting me and turning them in to lost and found so I could pick them up. These actions reinforce my decision to rent with them in the future. I know things get forgotten and they are sometimes lost causes but it wasnt the case with us. Thank you Budget. I reserved a Budget car and go to the counter to pick up the keys. Only one person ahead of me. A sign was posted for Budget and another for Avis/Payless in different lines. Only one person ahead of me. 5 people waiting in the Avis line. After 10 min waiting one of the Avis counter people tells me there is only one line for all 3 companies and sends me to the back of the Avis line. Now there are 12 people ahead of me! How inconsiderate! The counter person at Budget noticed me but never said a word. If there's only one line for all then why have separate signs and 2 lines? I should have been told when I walked up. Or at least given a better place in line since more than half walked up while I was waiting in the wrongly marked line. What has happened to customer service these days? read more

I honestly have never had a worse consumer experience in my life and that includes cable companies. We were given a down grade, charged the same price, when we got to the car it reaked of pot. Not just a little bit but to an extreme degree. You got a huge wave of it when you opened the door or the trunk. I have two young kids and one started crying when she smelled it (she doesn't know what it is, just that the car was ripe). The manager flat out refused to attempt to find me a new car or even book for tomorrow. He said the car was perfectly usable and literally walked out on me to never come back, right before saying maybe he can find me another car in a few days. I called the Avis/Budget hotline and they threatened to CHARGE ME if it left the car because they would have to tow it (it was in a secure Budget parking lot). They said if I want a car I have to go in the next day and hope there is one available and they are not willing to connect me it a replacement. I had to cart my two crying children (now three hours past bed time) all the way back to the taxis and pay for the ride to the hotel out of my pocket because Avis was too incompetent to handle basic customer service. Put another way: customer service for a car rental company, is unable to address issues with their car rentals.
