I've never seen Alan Optical behind schedule by much and have always been in and out on time. The people at the front desk work closely with me and my family on finding the right options for lenses and frames.

We were told the person handing out the glasses didn't know which case these went with. If not sure, they should provide any generic case that would hold the glasses in. They shouldn't make others make another trip just for the case. Or they should advise no one is available to hand out a new pair of glasses. So, I am disappointed. I love to go there for an eye exam, but not buying a pair of glasses. When calling back, I was told my insurance didn't cover the case. The total price of the glasses was a bit over $500. A portion of it was paid by insurance, the rest by me. Anyone selling glasses at that price should have a case to go with it, even a generic one. Imagine a kid getting his first pair of glasses and not be given a case with it, but have it wrapped in a foil. The manager was contacted. They apologized. She is shipping the case to us. It makes one wonder how much does one need to spend on a pair of glasses to have the case go with it.

I only have left reviews for places/people/businesses that are horrifying or that are outstanding. This Buffalo Grove Walgreens Optical Team is outstanding and deserve recognition for their excellent service. First, I had an appointment with Dr. Snezhana Sabo (my childhood through my twenties I saw an optometrist Dr. Tabak in Barrington, IL, however he was too expensive for my budget. So, I went to Pearle Vision for a while- I honestly only went there for convenience. I did not particularly like or remember any of the optimists I saw there). I love Walgreens and when I saw they had a new Optical Team available at a Walgreens near my home; I decided to try it out. Let's just say, I will NEVER have to find another eye doctor again! Dr. Sabo was unbelievable! She was kind, friendly and made me feel comfortable the entire appointment. She was very well-educated and she had very useful knowledge on different brands of contacts (which was the main reason for my appointment)- that was extremely helpful! The appointment was very thorough, but not time-consuming. I'm very excited about finding a new eye doctor, Dr. Sabo! I have not found an eye doctor that I wanted to go back to (besides my childhood optometrist)...however; I enjoyed, trusted and liked Dr. Sabo so much that I will not being seeing another eye doctor from now on. Another compliment that I really need emphasize is on the Optical Manager, Julie Simmons! I think she is the #1 reason why this Optical Team is so amazing! It is SO hard to find good customer service, and especially good managers these days. It's extremely frustrating! Well, when you meet Julie...it will bring hope back that there still are sincerely friendly, caring, kind and helpful managers out there! Along with the hope that there are still good people in this world. I mean, I can't say enough good things about this wonderful woman! When I first came in, she was so friendly and nice that I couldn't help but feel comfortable around her immediately. I'm a shy person, but she made it so easy to talk to her- I didn't even feel shy at all. I loved it! I had the best conversations with her that I have in a long time. Oh, it was so refreshing! It felt so good to know people like Julie still exist in this world- because she is a rarity. I hope your Optical Team holds on to her because you can't replace people like her. She made me feel like I had known her for years. It was a such a good feeling. Plus, it was very unexpected; which was such a pleasant surprise. Since, my first visit I have been back there twice to pick up contacts-- and I both times I felt like I was seeing old friends or family I hadn't seen in a while. It was so awesome! I can't even explain it because I've never experienced such excellent service like this before- and it's hard to describe how great it feltl. And, believe me I have experienced excellent service before, but NOTHING like this! For real, I can't even compare it to anything- it was really that good! Especially, Julie Simmons! She is so fun, nice and easy to talk to that I seriously want to go back- just to hang out and talk to Julie!:-) I love her! I love her personality so much- she is a good soul and an invaluable employee. Ok, I better stop myself now because I literally could go on and on writing about this ONE-OF-A-KIND Optical Team! Thank you so much Julie Simmons and Dr. Sabo! You are the kind of people that make this world a better place.:-)

At other places I've been to the technology seemed a little out dated but here everything is digital. It is such a nicely put together optical center with a great doctor and optical technician. I am currently recommending anyone and everyone I know to head over there. I have never felt so confident, comfortable and well taken care at any other optometrist. Before you think about driving to the emergency room give them a call for minor and moderate eye issues. They might be able to see you quickly. Phoropters and slit lamps are original early 2000s installs very well maintained and kept with pristine lenses. Staff are caring and nice and handle exams quickly. Dilation waiting area was in the center but was told to go to main waiting which was a slight workflow deficiency, I will not deduct stars for workflow deficiency. Points will be deducted Appearance 90 (some corners of exam chairs have peeled paint and could use a repaint and refresh. The leather as well has cracked on some seats making a reupholstery job a favorable management decision in addition to light repainting and updating the overall offices decor. It feels like it's stuck in 2004) Staff 100 (absolute gems of staff here. Very caring and patient even with rather sketchy eye control in cerebral palsy exam. A CP exam can take up to 70% more time than a standard exam. Here a CP exam takes averaged across five exams approximately 20% longer than a standard persons exam which is impressive efficiency with high complexity care.) Equipment 100 (while cosmetic issues exist such as peeling paint actual equipment is kept in pristine condition and works as expected. In fact the auto diagnostic machine was so clean I plopped my head down and they said "hang on hang on I haven't even wiped it yet!" Your fault for it looking perfectly ready!) Workflow 85 (this one was the hardest to deduct for. They had a central interior waiting room with no windows for dilating patients. Instead they had everyone waiting in main today. Not sure if this was due to the water issue in the building or if this was a workflow defect. Will follow up next exam and remind them of proper use of the dilation room to avoid over irritation of patient eyes during the wait and to improve COVID-19 distancing for patients by keeping dilating patients away from the main waiting to protect them while eyes are in a more vulnerable state.) The "mojo" of this office, relative to the Vernon Hills site, was completely different in the most positive respect. An actual receptionist heartily greeted me on arrival with a warm smile and focused demeanor, all but absent, unfortunately, at the Vernon Hills site, which seemed understaffed and in some respect unwelcoming. The Mundelein site's optometrist, whose name I did not request, unfortunately, was the paragon of kindness, warmth and acumen. Her personality was warm, her procedural concern extremely capable and her general attentiveness exemplary. Frankly I was not accustomed to this standard of care from the other location, capable though all staff seemed to be. The site's general manager, Tai, was also very personable, sociable and proud of his operation. Here was a gentleman who takes great pride in his work and team and he is highly commended as one who strives to run not only a tight ship, but a humanistic one. I cannot recall any visit to the Vernon Hills shop that in any manner possessed and/or offered the confluence of "feel good" factors that I experienced in Mundelein this morning. In summary, I have long had affinity for the ABC&E offerings. Having visited and experienced the Mundelein paradigm today, there is no going back to Vernon Hills in light of my exposure to a much enhanced, and appreciated, customer service approach and experience. This location is fantastic and highly recommended.
