Be prepared to go back in time. This charming hotel was built in the late-1920s. Except for the updated bathroom - which was really nice in and of itself - the room is classy antique. The bed was wonderful; linens were great; and the shower was great; Staff couldn't have been nicer. There are great restaurants across the street, plus the Hotel's own "Swamp Fox" Restaurant for dinner. A wonderful experience minus one thing. The continental breakfast left much to be desired. It would be nice to have had yogurt in the 'frig; and more than one type of juice. Microwaved Jimmy Dean's Breakfast Croissant Sandwiches did not fit the ambiance of this old lovely hotel. Biscuits and gravy would be a nice touch. Otherwise, our stay was lovely.

While the outside of the building looks like a smaller and less bedazzled building, it's in good shape and well maintained. The same is true for the rooms. Everything is plenty fine, clean, orderly, and not in any kind of state of disrepair. Staff is very nice and the hallways are clean and free of smells. It's a quiet place despite being right next to the interstate. The breakfast area is small, but it does a great job with what they have. They have folded egg omelets, Jimmy Dean sausage, make-your-own waffles, cereals, juices, fruits, carbs, etc. There is a small workout room as well. Next door is a Subway and gas station with typical convenience store items, and across the street is a home cooking' restaurant that locals seem to like. Driving south 4 miles or so will take you into Marion where there are many restaurants, Walmart, and other stores common in small towns. This motel is also about 4 miles from the Mount Rogers Recreation Headquarters and access to the Appalachian Trail. Bottom line, there is a lot to like about this model and they do the most they can with it.

He had been driving for 19 hrs due to having issues with his U-Haul truck and needed a place to sleep for a few hours. The hotel owner said $100.00 plus tax. I signed the receipt, and left. The next day I looked at my bank account and the hotel owner charged my account another $200.00 totaling $313.00!!! He said the driver smoked in the room, the driver is a NON SMOKER! I know this due to my family hosting a dinner for him. DO NOT STAY HERE!! I WAS DEFINATLY TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF...He promised a refund and never stood true to his word. ***EDIT****The owner has since refunded the amount back to me.

No customer service which is fine, I just wanted a clean room and bed. The beds are comfortable but after finding a tick looking bug crawling on the bed (see picture) I am just sitting up while my family sleeps. Don't look under the mattresses....you will for sure not sleep. We are too tired from driving to leave. I wouldn't use their blankets as there is hair and cigarette burns on it. I really wanted to be positive on here but if you don't like dirty rooms or a bug in the bed will make you itch all night, keep driving. The hotel is pretty dated which is fine, it's the yellow water stains on the ceiling and gunk on walls that bothers me. The AC is working great and not as noisy as you expect in a minimalist hotel room.

Pretty sure a child did the paint on the walls as it was not pretty. The comforter on the beds had holes all over it and I'm pretty sure that along with the sheets and pillows were from the 80's. If you want a non smoking room, don't bother as the room next to you is a smoking room and you can smell the smoke. Last but not least, we opened the door and their were 2 stink bugs chilling on the bed.
