Needed an evaluation for intermittent transmission codes before taking the vehicle on a family trip…read moreto North Carolina. Terry's Transmission read the codes, put the vehicle on a lift, and took it for test drives, but said they could not recreate the issue. I asked directly whether the vehicle was safe to drive on the trip. I was told, verbatim, "Absolutely. If this was my car and my family trip, I wouldn't have any hesitation at all." Unfortunately, more than 700 miles from home, the transmission failed. The vehicle would not shift out of reverse until it eventually did. We had to get it to a dealer out of state. The dealer was able to diagnose the issue quickly. The required repair involved a part inside the transmission, which meant the transmission had to be taken apart, repaired, and reassembled. The repair itself is covered under warranty, but most of the rental costs and travel disruption are not. I understand that I made the final decision to drive the vehicle out of state. That part is on me. However, the end result was being stranded more than 700 miles from home without a usable vehicle, followed by additional rental costs and another trip just to retrieve the car once the repair is complete. I relied on this shop to competently evaluate the problem and give me a sound recommendation before a long trip. Based on what happened afterward, I do not believe that evaluation or recommendation was reliable. I will not be using this business again.

From that time is was 35 minutes to arrival, but shortly after the 20 - 50 minute estimate, the provider called me to give me a more precise time which exactly matched their actual arrival time. The provider was fast, efficient, friendly and the service call was free with the Subaru new car warranty coverage. So my cost was $0 plus the optional tip (which I was able to do seamlessly on Venmo). So, in total, this was an equal or better experience than any other service call I have previously utilized with other vehicles.

Tony was our hero, he called multiple places just to get us in and helped. When we didn't know the tires sizes Tony didn't hesitate to come look at the car and help. He lined up the tow truck and the garage to get the tires changed. He also got us estimates, good prices, and drove us to the tire place. This father and son duo know their stuff and get the work done right in a relatively short amount of time. Definitely recommended. Update: 3/28/2023 This shop came through for me again, diagnosing and fixing a problem that was causing sensors in the ECU not to even become available, which prevented three other shops from even thinking about what the cause of the issue was, so they just sent me on my way with a failed NYS inspection. After finding a rare part that was needed, Tim was able to fix the car, saving it from the scrap pile once again. I don't know of any other mechanic who could have solved this puzzle. The most interesting aspect of the process was the fact that Tim authenically seemed to care about getting the Celica back on the road, keeping me appraised of the progress, and then even personally calling me back to make sure the Toyota was able to legally pass a NYS inspection. Tim may initially sound gruff, possibly from years of dealing with the general public whose cars need transmission work, but I believe he actually takes pride in his work and possesses what I would call integrity. I have not yet found another mechanic in Syracuse with his experience, problem-solving ability, and honesty. If your vehicle has a transmission-related problem and you want it to actually be fixed, this is the shop you should take it to. Even if other mechanics cannot diagnose or perform a certain repair, take it to Tim. Time is definitely money for him, so leave any frustration-related attitude you may feel about the automotive issue outside, be concise, respectfully listen to what he says, and you will likely have your vehicle back on the road surprisingly quickly. Again, highly recommended.

All I wanted to do was give my baby a bath. I hopped in my car and it wouldn't start! I cranked the ignition a few more times and got it jumped, twice. Still no go. My landlord (and also my first trusted friend in Syracuse) recommended Butch's as he gets his pickup truck serviced there. I called Butch to let him know what the problem was and that my car was getting towed there. He asked if I was a student and I said yes, I'd just moved here and all I wanted to do was give my car a good cleaning. The next day, I get a call from Butch saying that the car was ready and all it really needed was a good battery charge. WHEW!!! They checked out the alternator and a few possible other culprits and drove my car around to make sure it wasn't anything else. He explained that he's seen it happen before - a car on the back of one of those carrier trucks with its alarm going off the whole way during transit, maybe from all the bumps on the road, thus causing it to drain the battery. I absolutely hate car problems, no matter how big or small. Why the 5 star rating for something so simple? When I went to pick up my baby, she was shiny and spotless. I can't tell you how great it felt when I saw my clean car, ready to be driven to help me discover this new place. I was almost emotional. Butch not only eased my worries about the mechanical aspect of it all, but he went above and beyond to welcome me into a new city by taking extra care of my car. He didn't bullshit me or give me the run around. Butch's just earned themselves a loyal customer. I'll be back for my tune-up due soon.
