I really liked the bull dog behind the counter, I'm sure he must have smelled my pug on me and started wagging his tail like crazy. The Saybrook Country Barn is a pretty nice place. Not cheap, but nice…read more I normally come here for furniture but they sell all kinds of stuff for your home like rugs, curtains, bedding and countless smaller items (some lame, some nice). It's definitely got a "country" feel so if you were expecting modern or contemporary things this probably isn't the place for you. It's a pretty big place and actually in two separate buildings. In one building they actually have a small selection of fairly upscale clothing items (now for men and women) and a restaurant, though I haven't eaten there so I can't comment on it. They have probably the best selection of furniture around from several different brands. Some people think it's expensive but I guess it's all relative. If you were comparing this place to Bob's Discount Furniture then yeah it's expensive. But most of it is made domestically and you can order specific types of wood, finishes, hardware, fabrics, etc. just the way you want it. So I put SCB in the "you get what you pay for" category. The people who work there are friendly and helpful. I'm guessing based on the way I'm treated that they don't work on commission but I guess I could be wrong. It can get busy on weekends so it may be hard to get help if it's really busy. But you can usually eventually find someone to take your money. Overall it's a pretty good place if it fits your style.

I described what I had and then met him there with 2 workers. After taking a look at my items he made what I considered a very fair cash offer for everything I didn't want. His workers emptied out the units, loaded what I want to keep into my truck and the rest into theirs, and then swept the units out so they were ready to turn back over to the storage unit management. I drove away relieved to have a huge weight off my mind with cash in hand....Call John - you will be so glad you did!

The next day it was on my credit card bill for $18.10, one day and then the next day Esty changed it to $32.94. This is ridiculous for a tiny 1/2 inch wooden heart. The service was nice, the worker at the front greeted my party and was friendly. The selection however was less antiques as it was small artists selling their goods. They do NOT have a restroom so you have to drive a mile either way if you have to use it. If it was an emergency she said you can go out to the bushes. Yes. This was said. This may be important if you're drinking a lot of tea. If you just want a cup of tea they will serve it in a to go paper cup. They use plastic silverware and paper plates. But if you can spent more on a pot of tea then you can get the nice china. So I ordered the pot of tea for more money because the my mother was having a different tea. So I only had 1 cup of tea and a big pot that I didn't want. I was told that they usually serve "Starbucks" style where you go to the counter and they give you a cup of tea to go ( even if the whole point is not to go to Starbucks but have lovely afternoon with my mother) The only way you get served is if you get the pot of tea. The treats ( cookies and such- no scones in this day) are individually wrapped in ziplock bags) Again if you don't mind a different type of afternoon tea experience and you are just there maybe for the atmosphere and don't need a restroom ( sorry I keep bringing that up but I still can't believe it) then you can indulge in these teas and the company of the lovely owner. It just not our cup of tea.
