My carpet/vinyl installation kept getting put off with no communication to me. This is an empty…read morehouse that I am renovating. The complete interior of the house was freshly painted a few days before they got here. During the installation, they scratched and scuffed-up numerous walls, baseboards, and doors that I am going to need to re-paint. They also smoked in the house when they were here and the place reeks of smoke now. Cigarette butts and ashes were left in the kitchen and bathroom sinks. They are also on the patio, driveway, and lawn. When you spend money on carpet, one of the great things is having that 'new carpet smell' in the house. There is certainly none of that here, just smoke that I'm going to have to fumigate from the house. In addition to the cigarette butts, they did not clean up after themselves. There are tons of carpet shavings and vinyl trimmings all over the house. Of course trash was left behind, too, in addition to the cigarette butts. I did not ask the owner for any sort of refund or discount, but I did ask that they send someone out to clean up the messes they left behind. He said that he was going to have someone do that, and that did not happen. No further response from the owner. I had just used Lowe's for a similar size home a couple of months ago and the prices at this place were only marginally better, certainly not worth the headache. I am going to go back to Lowe's for the flooring in my home renovations from now on, and would recommend that everyone stay away from this place.

BUYER BEWARE! Charlie A installed carpet on our upper level and seams were noticeable everywhere…read more We communicated with Charlie and it took many months before someone showed up to redo the seams. The installers noticed carpet worn near the seams and said there appeared to be fiber damage (from the factory) and carpet should be replaced. We are now entering nearly 6 months of hearing we will reorder and replace, and we discussed we do not want the same carpet - too many red flags on the poor quality of the carpet that we were led to believe had a good 10+ years of life. Lie after lie, Charlies disappears when there is complaints, throws off on someone else. We finally asked for full refund knowing Shaw Carpets will refund Charlie A, and again he does not respond to our calls. Next step is filing a complaint with the Ohio AG and BBB

Be forewarned, neither company will stand behind their flooring and the "lifetime warranty" they sell you is meaningless. We purchased an Armstrong vinyl plank floor (A6899 Luxe Plank) from them for our kitchen. It was supposed to be their top-of-the-line floor and was sold with a lifetime warranty. We recently started a remodel of the kitchen with plans to keep the flooring in place. However, during construction, our contractor noticed that the vinyl planks were separating at the joints. We called McSwain, who in turn sent someone to the house (Paul I believe) and he was extremely rude and condescending. He basically said our issue was "an environmental" issue and they would not honor the warranty claim. With this news we opened a claim with Armstrong in the hopes that they would stand behind their product. Fast forward 5 months later and today they rejected the claim stating, " issue you are having with your flooring is not a warranted issue". No other information provided. Our kitchen is no different from any other kitchen, so their excuse of it being an "environmental" issue does not hold water. Especially given that they can't/won't explain what that even means. Steer clear of both McSwain's and Armstrong!
