In the restaurant business, we all have a switch: once the doors open, it flips. Until then, you're seeing people exactly as they are. This team is genuine. Hands down. Yes, I know, I'm technically here for a king cake. Standing in line for a king cake from a famous fried chicken company almost feels satirical. But watching the entire team sit down together for a meal an hour before service told me everything I needed to know about the leadership and the values of this company. People matter here. You can see why the sandwiches are as good as they are. You can feel why the king cake is worth the wait. This team operates like a family; kind to one another, intentional, and connected. The food is made with care because the people are cared for. I'm not here to review the food (which is phenomenal) or the king cake. I'm here to review the brand. This is the kind of business we should be proud to support as a community. Keep it up.

I also like that they feature a daily special that isn't on the regular menu--it adds a nice element of variety. Everything is cooked to order, which is definitely a plus. Just keep in mind that most of the menu is fried, so this isn't the place to go if you're looking for a particularly healthy meal.

This is perfectly reasonable for peak meal-time at a popular restaurant. However, the hostess also said we could seat ourselves at the bar and dine there if we wished. We did this and it was a great option. The food was good. The service was wonderful. The atmosphere was casual and bright and welcoming. There were many large family groups, lots of kids, and all of the staff I saw were very friendly. Overall we really enjoyed it and were glad we stopped.

It has been a long time since we have had dinner here since the food was not good the last two times we had visited. We used to go all the time but the food just wasn't that good. We were greeted with a warm welcome and our waitress was wonderful. They were know for their thin catfish unfortunately they have lost their mojo. The fish tasted of just batter. Our waitress handled our party of 14 like a pro. Most of the food came out in a timely manner they were not busy. Our fish came out but the rest of the seafood platter was absent. When it did come out it was cool. Missing hush puppies which we had to ask for. The seafood platter came with two pieces of fish 6 shrimp 4 oysters , large stuff crab , fries and coleslaw. The fish was mushy, the shrimp and oysters were ok the stuff crab was very large but with lots of bread crumbs and green onions. Not our favorite. The place is beautiful. The owners have really worked hard and the decor is very nice. The focus is not on the food like the family that had opened the place. If you are on I55 stop in you will enjoy the beauty of the drive and their dock is great.

When I found myself in the area again this week, I decided to give it a shot and relive that experience. What a change. Guess they were right. I remember a delicious crawfish étouffée that I had when I went the first time which is no longer on the menu. It's mostly just fried food and hamburgers. I ordered the overstuffed shrimp Poboy that the woman said was the most popular item on the menu. It was overstuffed all right, but the shrimp were hard as rubber and tasted like they had been cooked in week old oil. It was an hour before closing so maybe that was it but that is not an excuse. I'll still think about that delicious crawfish étouffée that I had years and years ago, and try my hardest to forget this terrible meal. The Poboy itself was around $15 and the fries were two dollars extra. To their credit, they were crinkly fries, which are always my favorite and they were delicious. I wish I would've never went back and kept my memories, but I did. Perhaps I'll give it another shot one day. I hear the gumbo is good, which was the special of the day, but it was too hot for that all the day I went. Lots of interesting things inside, it looks like a roadside attraction almost. I can't understand why there's not more restaurants in this area as they are several plantations that people most likely go to visit and would likely decide to have lunch somewhere. Almost anything would blow this one out the water. I still dig the ambience. The alligator dressed in a chef suit, the interesting painting on the bathroom wall, the old country/Cajun feel but aside from that, what happened, B & C Seafood?

N 2.99 pork rinds which tasted old. Cool folks here. Would dine in next time for other foods.

Once we pulled up to an empty parking lot during lunchtime, we questioned how it had 4 stars. Boutte's Bayou is located towards the back of a river barge. It has a riverish diner feel inside, with maximum river bayou decor. The kitchen is hidden away in the middle by a curtain or sheet; we couldn't tell. There was only one person working, taking orders, and cooking food. The menus are handwritten; each is a little different, but as of the date, the same menu as the Yelp photos. None of the food was fresh, all fried on site behind the curtained kitchen. It also all tasted like something we could buy from Costco or Sam's Club and fry ourselves. Drinks were provided via pop/soda cans. Plastic wear is provided for eating via a large bin on the table. The Cook/Server/checkout person running our credit card for payment had an issue; there was no wifi, then Wi-Fi, some system error, some square event, then some Venmo issue... this felt very sketchy, with the number of times the cards were scanned, and then the owner was called, who asked for the card over the phone. It was a very weird experience. We ended up paying in what little cash we did have.

As part of the Restaurant Impossible episode the previous building had undergone a renovation and menu revamp all of which was lost in the hurricane. The current location is operating out of a "floating structure" with the restaurant downstairs while the upstairs has hotel rooms for rent along with a bar area with a pool table. They have a smaller menu and no longer serve alcohol as of my last visit. I'm not sure if they are using this floating structure as the new preeminent location or if they intend to rebuild a new building where the old restaurant was. Overall they still have some good seafood options here while having a VERY limited beverage selection. My video review of Bouttee's Bayou Kitchen is here: https://youtu.be/7n9wgaeUXU4
