Chicken Cashew Pineapple and fried rice

Grabbed carryout with the fam. Small restaurant in Sayler Park. Wouldn't ever drive by unless you were intentionally going here but the food is great. Chicken cashew pineapple delicious and a huge portion , could easily feed 2. As good as any Asian food I've had in Cincy!

Service is great. Food is amazing. Price is reasonable. Cute little hidden gem in Sayler Park.

This was definitely a fun restaurant to drive to, as it means windy steep roads soooo characteristic of the West Side and the Sayler Park area. Finally you arrive at the small strip mall where Buddha Barn resides. The restaurant name is a little challenging to find -- it's written on the window glass, not the wide green awning above. But once inside, you find a cozy, clean comfortable environment with great service. BTW, I loved their menu, which seemed creative and quirky, with a few unusual offerings. For example, I ordered the C.O.P. curry (meaning Choose Your Protein), with shrimp. The veggies were huge, coated with a wonderful curry sauce. But it was the RaMa pork I was impressed with. I got take-out, and was surprised to find that this dish required some assembly. I received a box full of attractive-looking freshly cut-and-cooked veggies, a box of cooked rice, and two small containers of sauce. Way to keep everything fresh for me, B.B.!! I was equally impressed with the lemon Thai tea -- it had that great Thai taste, but there was a little kick of spice to it that was unusual -- and delicious! There were even a few special touches -- cardboard straws, chopsticks, and even some complimentary Hershey's kisses thrown in the bag. Yes, the food was wonderful -- fresh authentic Thai fare. But what made this place even more special was the thoughtful hospitality!

This one I was really hesitant on. First, it's one of those places where the menu says to ask your server about vegan or gluten-free options, which to me raises the question of not just whether they'll have any good such options, but whether the server on the day will be able to understand the request. Second, it's a smaller building that was a fair diversion for me from the city. Third, when I got there it was packed and I didn't want to wait. However, when I did enter towards the end of the day, there was suddenly no one eating in, and the building on the inside was fantastically decorated with even the bathrooms looking great, and my dietary concerns were allayed by them saying they could do just about any dish vegan. The steady stream of people getting takeout also had many specific requests for their dishes; it seemed this was the sort of place where that gets paid attention to. On top of that, they were friendly people (American, with some ties to Thailand apparently) who were checking in on me constantly. Ordering an apple tea to start didn't blow me away. It was fine; not overly sweet like apple juice but just a mild flavor. There are a lot of great Thai dishes, but the holy basil and chili stir fry is my favorite, and they produced a wondrous rendition. My dish had a large amount of tofu, which was thick in character and seemed a higher quality tofu than most places use (it made me think of Hodo soy). Delivered on a banana leaf with a fresh lemon to squeeze on top, it exploded with a bright mix of tropical flavors. Ordering Thai hot gave a comfortable warmth but nothing scary (I suspect that on the 1-10 scale they offer, Thai hot is no more than a 7). I was a bit insulted at the small portion of rice, but they offered to refill that and my tea for no extra charge, and it ended up encouraging me to limit my carbs with no harm done. I wished they'd had an appetizer or salad that was smaller and fit my dietary needs, but as to what I got, I couldn't have been much happier.

Little late in posting this review but Buddha Barn is one of my favorites on west side. Food is absolutely delicious with lots of vegetarian options as most of the items could be prepared with tofu instead of meat. Staff is friendly and service is great! They have limited seating space but carry out is always an option, highly recommend this place.

The Buddha Barn serves the best Thai food I've had in Cincinnati . Located right across from the park in Sayler Park it's an inconspicuous gem for wonderfully prepared Thai offerings. Seems like they do a lot of carry out but my wife and I dined in. It's not fancy, but it was clean and the server was very friendly and attentive. The food is prepared fresh and beautifully presented. The spice levels are selectable 1 to 10. I ordered the Roasted Duck Curry. It was made with a red coconut curry that was really good. My wife said her Pad Thai was probably the best she has ever had. ( and she orders it a lot) . We highly recommend this hidden gem.

My fiancé and I stopped in here for the first time tonight and we're blown away! For an appetizer we shared the crispy spring rolls ( not pictured ). The sweet and spicy chili sauce it comes with was so delicious! The rolls themselves were obviously made with such quality and fresh ingredients it really sticks out against competitors . For dinner we both had the crispy chicken ( level 3 hot ) and we absolutely loved it ! Paired with the jasmine rice it comes with we had enough to eat and take some home as well. Paid 45$ for two of us which I feel is normal these days for quality food . I didn't catch our servers name but he was very knowledgeable about menu options and gave us good advice when ordering . Although there aren't many places to sit, the ambiance here is quaint and lovely ! Definitely recommend this place to others , and we will be back soon for sure !

Great Thai food in the area. It's worth the drive for me. Nice atmosphere setting, food was solid with the spice numbers I enjoyed.

All seats at the bar were open, but we hoped to sit at a regular (not high-top) table. As it turned out there were a few options in the back. That said, it wasn't long before the place was packed. Our server Tyra was fantastic. Down to earth and helpful with recommendations. She made us feel welcome and comfortable. We started with Jumbo Ebi Shumai. Tyra asked if we wanted a fourth (the dish comes with three) so we wouldn't have to rock-paper-scissors for the third dumpling. I thought they were delicious. I loved the spicy mustard that came with them. I admit they had a slight fishy flavor. I mean it was shrimp and I enjoyed it. Mark is less of a fish fan in general. The dumplings didn't really hit the mark for him. If you like seafood and you like shrimp you should enjoy the Shumai. I opted for Tonkatsu Ramen - Ramen and thick creamy pork broth with roast pork, soft boiled egg, bamboo, wood ear mushroom, ginger and green onion. I added black garlic oil and did not go spicy at all. I thought it was very good and I ate literally every drop. Mark had Spicy Miso Ramen - Ramen and spicy creamy soybean paste pork broth with roast pork, soft boiled egg, bamboo, wood ear mushroom, and green onion. He said it was spicy, which was perfect for him. He also enjoyed his meal and finished every drop. We still had time to kill before the show so we opted for dessert. There were two options - Green Tea or Red Bean Ice Creams. Tyra recommended Red Bean and I'm glad she did. It was sweet with just the slightest crunch from the beans. It was a good size serving, hand dipped by Tyra. The proximity of Zundo to Memorial Hall or Music Hall makes it the perfect pre-show stop for dinner. We will definitely be back.

We ordered the Twice-Cooked Pork Lunch, Fish with Chili Bean Sauce Lunch, and the Birthday Noodles. With lunch, we were allowed to select an egg roll, egg drop soup, or hot and sour soup. We both opted for the hot and sour soup. Even without the complimentary noodles, this meal was incredibly well-priced at $10.99 per lunch special. High quality dishes with plenty of meat and fresh vegetables. The noodles were simple but larger than expected, well-cooked, and delicious. My mom raved about this place. She hasn't had quality Chinese food at that price in a long time, and is telling all of our family members that we should go back when they're in town. We ordered a variety of entrees, but the highlight was definitely the pho. The broth tasted very close to what you'd find in California and even Vietnam, which was a pleasant surprise. Really rich, balanced, and comforting. The only downside was the lack of fresh herbs on the side. It only came with a dish of bean sprouts, so it felt like it was missing that extra freshness that usually completes a bowl of pho. Service was amazing, mostly students from UC.
