Awesome Spring Rolls... 1st time drive from Cheviot to pick up. Relatives usually go to panda express but I wanted to show them the difference in quality! Wonton soup was large and good. I've driven past Buddha Barn 100 times but since it's one block off US-50 I never knew it was there. It seemed like a local hot spot. The server knew about every other party that came in. They were out of Spring Rolls and Kite so that was a little disappointing. I started with the Coconut Soup with Shrimp instead. I don't remember if they mentioned celery on the menu but the bowl was pretty loaded with it. I'm not a fan so I pulled them off to the side no big deal. The flavor of the soup was good. It was light with a hint of sweetness. I also had the Red Curry with Chicken Medium spice. I'm not one of those people that likes my mouth on fire during my meal and medium was just right. My nose got a little runny but 5 min after I finished the tingling was gone. The portion size was pretty large so that's always a plus. Hidden tiny gem in Cincinnati 's westside Saylor Park Area. Local Thai cuisine at it's finest. You can immediately tell fresh ingredients are used in every dish. We Started out with their potstickers. They were cooked to perfection. A little spicy, but I like it hot. I had to the big green curry. It had a different spin to the green curry I'm used too. Served up with giant shrimp pieces and fresh mangos. This dish was absolutely delicious!! This place is BYOB or wine, so if you want to enjoy a nice beverage, you are on your own. If you are coming during peak times be prepared to wait. Inside is new and nicely done , but only have 9 or 10 tables. Look for the big red roof next to UDF, because this place doesn't have a sign. My wife and I have been meaning to try this restaurant for months. The only reason we haven't been here before, is how far away it is from us. We found the food great and are likely to return despite the trek for us. Food: My wife and I shared the kite fried wontons as an appetizer. They are extremely light, crunchy and were delicious. This was a very nice departure from the typical crab rangoons. I had the pad phuktong, while my wife had the pad kra pow. Both dishes were delicious; the vegetables were very crisp and crunchy, and everything was extremely fresh. The only complaint my wife had, was that she wanted more of a sauce with her dish. Service: We came for dinner during a weeknight. We were greeted the moment we open the door, and quickly seated with our drinks and appetizer orders taken. The food came out very quickly. Our server was very friendly, and helpful with making our selections. During the time that we were there, we saw lots of people coming in and picking up orders to go. Facilities: Buddha Barn is a very nondescript looking building, which is somewhat hard to find given the small sign on the building. This is our go-to for birthdays, date night, any excuse to go out really because we've never had a meal that was less than exceptional. Its BYOB which is really ideal. We've tried something different every time we've been and can't come up with a favorite because it's all so good. Highly recommend the Kite and Meatballs for appetizers and the Ra Ma may be, if I had to choose, my favorite because the peanut sauce is gold. Love that it's such a small space and fairly quiet. I've tried to give Buddha Barn several chances. I have waves of being quietly disappointed while at others- relishing in what potential they could have. It seems that this place has gotten praise- as their website likes to boast two random articles made about them almost 4 years ago. Word of advice, don't wear local journalism like a badge. Most modern journalism is pretty devoid of any substance- and I tend to find a lot of it relatively laughable when people with moderate competency in writing- try to give their opinions about food. Prove it by being humble- even if it is a smaller and local place. I do like their Kite on a random day when it isn't overloaded with mango and pineapple, their crispy chicken can be quite good, and their fried rice- as easy as it is to make at home- can be delicious. At times it can be incredibly underwhelming- or others, it is so saturated in grease and I have had boxes completely fall apart from the bottom because of it. It's hard to be forgiving when I have tried to give this place so many chances- coupled with their high price for essentially- slightly above average fast food Asian take out. Tonight was probably my last night going there, as sad as it will be as I live just around the corner from this little restaurant in the business district of Sayler Park. I got a 6/10 spicy Pad Thai Noodles and it was so overbearingly hot when taking my first bite out of it. I'd like to think that I have a pretty strong resistance to heat, as there were other instances where I have, unironically, ordered 11s and 12s from this same place and felt very underwhelmed from it being not seasoned or conditioned properly. There seems to be a lack of consistency- and generally speaking, when asked for their spice levels- you might want to give a reference of when there is a cut off of it being spicy- and it just being impossible to eat. I called and asked if I could maybe take it back- not exactly expecting it to be remade, but to at least offer a piece of criticism from a bad meal. I didn't mind it as it was a small walk, but I am always open to getting the food remade- unfortunately it only got worse. Their famous "thai noodles" was nearly mush, the beef and pork were chewy and incredibly overcooked, and the entire thing was nearly soaked in liquid and grease. I took a single bite, and I instantly knew- that even a remake- it wasn't worth a stomach ache. At least the sweet tea was good. read more

We came on a snowy, cold Sunday and the restaurant was busy with dine in and takeout orders, but our waiter was super attentive and tried to get us our food as soon as possible because he knew we wanted to be home soon. We waited a bit to order, and the food came out very quickly!!! We ordered the steamed dumplings, chicken pad thai, beef drunken noodles, and pork garlic fried rice and everything was DELICIOUS!!!! We ordered take out for four and I'm not even sure what we got. We ordered off of the atypical menu. Yes they have a non traditional section. The food was yummy but it didn't remind me of Thai or Thailand. Not even close to food in Thailand but I will say the flavor and texture combos were awesome. I ordered a "7" spice level and could have totally done a 10. Again, in Thailand there is only one spice level (volcano) so it always bothers me how places cater to the American palate. I'd try other menu items here because they seem to push the bar beyond your typical pad Thai and Singapore noodles. Buddah Barn is ment to be a dine in experience. Patrons are to sit, relax, and enjoy. That being said, we placed an order for takeout. We were looking for something to enjoy for dinner while checking out nearby 13 Below Brewery. Both establishments have been on my list of places to try for some time, and this seemed like a way to check both out, on a time crunch. After perusing the Buddha Barn menu online, I called ahead with our order. Pad Thai with chicken, Gaga Gangpa with beef, cashew pineapple with chicken, pineapple fried rice, and meatball skewers were our order. (The Gaga and pineapple cashew chicken both came with steamed jasmine rice.) When they ask what spice level you want they are not playing around. Most of the people in our party love spicy food. We were pleasantly surprised to find this is truly the type of spice one expects from Thai food. The spiciest level we tried was an eight. (We ordered items between two and eight.) The eight was spicy. Half an hour after eating my tounge was still burning. It was a good burn. The kind of burn you know you will crave again later. My favorite was the pad Thai. There was a great balance of flavor. I enjoyed the tofu used. It was firm, and held up well. A spritz from the fresh lemon really brightened up the dish. Adding a bit of cilantro would have made the dish perfect. The mix of vegetables in the Gaga were delicious. I particularly liked the array of squashes. As the menu states, the dish is unique. We loved that the cashew pineapple chicken was made with real pineapple. None of that fake syrup here. In fact, all of the dishes are made with fresh and quality ingredients. All meats were tender. The only dish people in our group were not particularly keen on was the pineapple fried rice. They found it to just sort of be there. read more

A new addition to the westside and what a gem it is! This is by far the best Thai that I have experienced on this side of town. I'm not exactly sure when Buddha Barn opened, I do know that it hasn't been but a few months. I recently seen a review for it by another Yelper. My girlfriend and I decided to give it a try this cold afternoon and we fell in love instantly. Let me first by saying that the outside does this place zero justice, the inside decor is phenomenal. We were both really really impressed. It reminds you of something that should be secluded in the Forrest, It was such a great place to soak in the atmosphere. The service was top notch. We were greeted, seated and treated like royalty. It was very impressive. Let's get to the important part, the food was delicious. It was beyond expectations, I had the cashew pineapple stir fry and my girlfriend had the drunken noodle and both of us were in awe. They have a separate lunch menu and dinner menu. So naturally I have to do back and try the dinner one out. I hope whoever is reading this will go and give it a try because it is well worth the westside drive. I saved the best for last, it is BYOB. Hot damn! My husband and I were told by a well-traveled pilot friend that this was the best Thai he has ever had in the USA...and he was right! This place is amazing Make sure to put this in your GPS and look for a little unassuming gray building with a red awning. Wowwwwww! We had the kite appetizer-which was an incredible twist on crab ragoon. It was so fresh and the filling was light and full of flavor. My husband had drunken noodles (he wanted crazy curry but that wasnt offered on the lunch menu). He ate every bite of the Drunken Noodles and kept saying how fresh and light the noodles were. He was in heaven. I usually go for pad thai but decided to try the Basil Rice because the peppers and eggs sounded refreshing. Again WOWWWWWW, i was in love. I dont think my husband and I talked through our entire lunch because we were savoring every bite. Excellent!! I love finding places that are authentic and this is nothing less than that. We ordered a whole bunch if food for dinner and it only came out to 70$. We left very full and satisfied and also with some leftovers. I feel like you cant go wrong with anything you order there. From the apps, we got the meteorites, kites, meatballs, and the kalanga coconut soup. OMG! Just eating that filled us up. We also ordered the drunken noodles (homemade noodles were amazing) and the pineapple curry rice. Both were so amazing and packed with flavor. I will recommend this place to anyone and everyone. I'm embarrassed it's taken us so long to finally get food from Buddha Barn given how close we live to this restaurant and how often I've heard such wonderful reviews. I'll chalk it up to always wanting it on Mondays when they are closed... lol! Wow, words really can't describe how mouth-wateringly delectable our food was... and I don't think it's just because we were hungry! We got the eggplant ginger, crispy chicken, chicken pad Thai and chicken fried rice and every single item really hit the spot! Portions are huge, prices are reasonable for Thai food takeout. The only downside was they didn't have any appetizers left when we ordered, but next time I'll just make sure to order earlier! They are definitely doing some amazing business and are super busy which I think speaks to the yumminess and authenticity of the food here! The presentation was almost as good as the food. I throughly enjoyed the Drunken Noodle. Who could resist this name? The delicious crisp vegetables were there lending support to the transparent wide rice noodles. The Pineapple Cashew chicken had the perfect amount of sweet and spicy.
