My husband and I came to this place yesterday 9/11 hoping to enjoy some music. As we were about to walk in, I couldn't believe what I heard, they were chanting "Go back to Mexico." We hadn't even stepped inside yet, but that was enough for us to turn around and leave. This was extremely disappointing and unacceptable. Fun bar with a little bit of everything...drinking, dancing, karoke, bull riding and pool tables. The crowd was mixed, both over and under 21 with ladies getting in free. Three tries at the bullride are $5. The staff were all friendly. The dj was great playing a variety of country slow music, line dancing and a few pop songs sprinkled in. It was very casual and unpretentious with most in jean shorts or jeans and cowboy boots of course. The dance floor was the perfect size. There was no pressure to know all the dances as people were teaching eachother or learning from others. And everyone danced with eachother so no one was left out. The party starts to get going around 1100pm and ends at 2am. The only downside is they are only open Thurs, Fri and Sat. So much fun...my favorite was the Footloose line dancing!! If you want a great night out with true Texas dancing, this is the place in Galveston. Loved it!!! read more

Very cool place with a lot of space, dance floor room, karaoke, games, and a mechanical bull. Great DJ as well. The bartenders however, were rude and very inattentive, and we were pretty much the only ones there at the time. The female bartenders were nice, it was the guys. Karaoke was fun but not well organized and the karaoke DJ wasn't cool at all or helpful. Bathrooms were ok and fairly clean. It's a bar, so of course the music was loud, but it got quite a bit louder as the evening went on. I'd go back again, but I wasn't fond of the service there at all. read more

My night at BuckShot Saloon got hazier and hazier as the night progressed as I was there for a friend's birthday. Birthday parties are too much for me to handle. I don't often hit up Galveston but I'm always happy while I'm here as I love being on the water. Country bars aren't my favorite either but the birthday girl gets what the birthday girl wants. We stopped by on a Friday night around 11. There was a cover which is always gross in my book. When you walk in, they have a large dance floor for some country dancing. I'm no expert but I participated for a dance. They also had some drink specials on a Friday night which was nice to see. Other than that, there's a somewhat hidden area where they had karaoke. I don't sing but it was entertaining to witness. All in all, a decent country bar. read more

Came here on a Thursday night around 10:30pm. From the outside the place seemed pretty dead, but we figured we'd pop in for a beer and then take off if it was too boring. They tried to charge us a $5 cover... on a weekday, when they are dead... turned around and walked out. Owner, you only charge a cover if you have a high number of customers. Otherwise you're loosing out on precious alcohol sales, and potential return customers. read more

The DJ always keeps the party going with a mix of new and old music. location is easy to find it's a pretty straight shot from 45th. I will say the bouncers/front door people are not always in the greatest mood, I mean I understand cause my dads a bouncer but they still don't have to be rude. Although I haven't spent time upstairs it is nice up there good spot to get away from the party downstairs but still overlooks everything including the oh so famous karaoke room. The staff was rude unmarked and thought it was OK to manhandle us and our party for no apparent reason. I'm giving buckshot 3 stars based on the one and only occasion I've had there. We were in Galveston for a few nights and looked on yelp for karaoke bars and places that had music and dancing. The reviews for buckshot made it seem as though there were both. And I guess that was true however the band and dancing on the Friday night that we visited was mariachi. Let me start with how much I admire this bar. 1 star? Admire? That doesn't make sense. I assure you, dear reader, that by the end of my tale the understanding will not only be poignant but direct. The GM also publicly humiliated me, see below. Buckshot, nicknamed Buck's, is a hidden "country" bar off the very pedestrian friendly strand of Galveston. I used quotations because this bar plays a mixture of tunes that draw in all kinds of crowds. You will find everyone hitting the dance floor, including the one eyed one horned flying purple people eaters, which makes for a night to wear the taps of your shoes out. Bartenders, bar backs, bouncers, djs.... All of them are A++. Most of them have worked here for eons and their love for the bar is shown in the love they put into their work. Take a Buckshot, the bars cocktail signature... It's dangerous enough to keep you coming back every weekend. The dancefloor is large enough to accommodate the masses while keeping you on your toes for that two step or wobble. The mechanical bull just adds to the allure of this establishment, making it a go to if you either vacation or live on the island. Many bachlorette parties are thrown here because of the karaoke room and fun loving bachelors. Let's get to the reason for the one star, shall we? I've never been humiliated and made to cry publicly-much less by a stranger, even more less by a general manager. This past weekend my boyfriend and I were entertaining a friend from California. Dancing. Something that 1. The bar has a dedicated floor for 2. Friends do; is apparently condoned by the GM. The (female) GM approached me after dancing with our guest for 3 songs to tell me that my behavior was inappropriate and offensive to my boyfriend, who you know well. I was made to feel like I had done something wrong prior to consent from my SO and encouraged to entertain the said guest. My message to the GM, as a nightlife professional, you should have more tactful approaches if you feel morally indifferent. It's unfortunate that because of your behavior that I feel it necessary to not recommend this bar to friends, family, and coworkers as I have done for 4 months now. I'm a single mother who gets few nights out. Between my full time job, school and daycare schedules, and nights in with my boyfriend, who you feel I wronged, I am appalled at how you discerned my night out. I am astonished that you would shame me for the very thing that your bar encourages- dancing. I deserve an apology. My boyfriend deserves an apology. The friend and all the people you may have spread an ugly rumor to, they deserve an apology. I enjoy patroning this highlight of Galveston, but will refrain my recommendation of 5 stars until the above is acknowledged. read more

We ended up here on St Patricks Day after visiting many other bars and we had a lot of fun here. There was a pub crawl going on and this was the place where the after-party was. I will just set the record straight and will say that I am not country. I'm not from Texas and I'm not big into country music or Wranglers. I will tell you that the bartenders here were extremely friendly and fun. They have Buckhunter, pool tables, darts, jukebox, huge dance floor, and a stage for live bands. I'm 20 years old right now (4 months til 21!!!). Bucks was my very first bar at 18; needless to say I was extremely nervous but since then it has had, and always will have a real sentimental value to me. My friends and I have had many great times here and there a surely many more to come within the next few years. :) P.S. Don't let the Kereoke guy get to you. Texas country two stepping is definitely not my thing, but I love this place. Lots of people are always there on a Saturday night. Huge dance floor, and karaoke in a separate room when you first walk in. Bartenders are not from Galveston. You can tell that this is not really so much a local bar. But it's nice. Only thing is it is SO hard to walk in and out of this place! You have maybe 4 feet width from the dance floor and the bar. People trying to order drinks or just standing there is so annoying when you're trying to walk through the club. I really feel like I'm bothering people just by walking. Oh well. What can I say this is a cool place to visit in Galveston !!!! It's owned by an officer who is absolutely very cool. The bar is patriotic and amazing with a very nice size dance floor and two full bars. The music and ambience is Country mainly but they do through the rap and hip hop in there. The staff and bartenders are nothing short of cool and outstanding with the flaring and quick service even in a crowded situation. Upon visiting the establishment I had an amazing time and really enjoyed myself. They have very clean bathrooms, the bar is taken car of, there's an extra upstairs room for karaoke and sing alongs, they have a few pool tables and a Mechincal bull to ride. There's ways to post your pics of the bar and be tagged and viewed right then and there . It's just and excited atmosphere all the way around and definitely a place I'm gonna go dancing again at !!! read more
