Hung out here on Saturday and there's been much improvement in the service, hence the star upgrade. I think we had about three different cocktail waitresses serve us during our stay - which lasted well past sunset. They were all speedy and friendly, helpful when it came to selecting cocktails and food. Chocolate martinis are still delicious, as are the fruity frou-frou drinks - but not that strong. And each time I got bubbly or a mimosa, it was warm. I still drank it, but meh. Drinks are still more than you'd want to pay for a not-so-stiff drink, but what hotel bar isn't pricey? I spent probs more than $100 just on myself, so I rec just buying a bottle. You have to have a wristband to access the pool and get towel service; not sure how to get a band if you're not staying at the hotel. I guess you could always rent a cabana. Which are pretty pimp. Flat screen TV, couches, fresh fruit, bottled water and of course, poolside view and VIP service. Cabanas sell out fast, so book early (weeks ahead, not days) if you're gonna drop in on a weekend. The crowd here is an even mix of families, hotties and regular Joes, which I like. I did, however, notice a lot of hot moms with their kiddos. Great idea for those moms looking for a quick getaway that can entertain both adults and youngsters. Potties: Please use them. Don't go in the pool. As added persuasion, the restroom inside the main lobby has a tub of fragrant salt scrub that's complimentary. They also have foot showers, a mojito bar, wet bar, hot tub, kiddie slide with a grotto. There's a no-smoking rule here. I'm not a smoker, but I wanted to enjoy my Hight Cigar and feel all baller like. Ah well, I'll save it for another day. read more

This is a review of the pool, not the bar. Make sure you get a towel card from the front desk. You will need one card per towel. If you don't return the towel, they will add $25 to your bill. This is important to do before you go to the pool. We stayed at the hotel for several days during April. We visited the pool several times and enjoyed it, but it seems to have a bit of a split personality. The pool has a large amount of lounge chairs with big cushions lined up at both sides of the pool. Surrounding the pool are cabanas available for rent. At the rear of the pool is a hot tub and large slide and waterfall. Kids love the waterfall and slide, but the pool seems to be more of an adult designed space. I felt a little out of place with small kids. Make sure kids don't run while climbing the stairs for the slide, as it is slippery, and the stairs have sharp edges (I know from experience). As a bar/party space this pool would be great, but as a hotel pool that is family friendly, it isn't the best. read more

This review is for the pool which is AWESOME!! The most "resort-like" feel at a hotel in Galveston for sure! Towels provided, and get there early to get an umbrella. I was showing coworkers pictures of the pool and gulf and they thought I was in Mexico or the Caribbean! Drinks and food are WAY overpriced with lackluster/apathetic/slow service from what I observed, but If you're creative you can get around buying their drinks! (See McDonalds cup). You must be a hotel guest to use the pool, but I lucked out with an amazing mid-week rate on Priceline App, and they don't charge for parking if you self-park in the rear lot. read more

Thank goodness, I read John's review and realized that I was supposed to have a bracelet and a towel card...of course, it was off season so I'm not really sure how strict they were being. Or maybe since we checked in with a conference they figured we didn't need them. I spent some time pool adjacent my first morning in town but after that I was mostly in the bar area. The setup is very attractive and all of the servers I experienced were lovely. The bartenders were sort of hit or miss with a very frat-bro vibe so plan accordingly. The drinks are pricey but it's a hotel bar. If you drink beer those are a bit more affordable. I had a couple of their specialty cocktails and they were meh. But the comfy couches and the firepit were great for continuing the conversations with friends. So high points there. Plus you could order food if you wanted. Again I could see this area being a bit much during high season, but it was great for us. read more

Terrible service! Can't bring any outside alcohol or ice chests or containers! You pay $500 a night and my grandson thru a potato chip off the balcony and not even 5mins later security was there reprimanding him! He's only nine years old! And then if you hang your towels off the balcony or any swimsuits on the chairs, it's a $500 room charge! The bars were over serving people. My daughter had to tackle a man in parking lot because he had his GF in a chock hold! She held him down till police showed up! Hotel did not give a damn! Good thing my daughter got involved or they would have probably found that girl the next day in the bushes!!! Very overpriced on everything! Worst vacation ever!!!!! Never again! read more

The pool is heated in December, it was lovely and the staff is super friendly and attentive. Can't wait to go back.

For my birthday, I decided to mix it up a little and celebrate in where else but a place that offers swimming, yummy food, dancing and lots of lots of drinks! This upscale renovated pool and bar is located smack dab in the front of the San Luis Resort. This pool and bar concept has finally hit Galveston after being popular in other cities such as Miami and Vegas. This place is very posh with cabanas filled with LCD TVs, couches and your own bottle of bubbly. They have the oh so cool lounging pool side beds and plenty of lounge chairs around. The bar is conveniently located in the pool, so a swim up bar always gets a thumbs up in my book! The bartenders here are really nice, but that comes with the sticker tag because drinks here are expensive. They even have a sushi bar, which you can eat by the pool! Awesome! They usually have a DJ at night, but the night of my birthday celebration there was no DJ to be found. Oh well. This place is definitely a unique way to throw down a couple of drinks with cool people or to celebrate a birthday lounging in a cabana sipping on a frosty pina colada. They are even open till 2 in the morning on the weekends. There are usually more people during the day (early afternoon), so there will be plenty of eye candy to be found. Overall I will definitely be heading back here for some fun in the sun. read more

Remember those sexy MTV Spring Break parties from the mid 90s? Impromptu dance parties, gyrating, boozing...? Good news. The gang got back together and they're goin' to town at San Luis' recently revamped H2O Pool + Bar. Here's the thing... The Ed Hardy tees, overly-tanned bods and 35-40 something crowd might be a turn off for some people. Truth is, I have a good time just about anywhere I go, plus it's a gold mine for people watching, so you'll have some free built-in entertainment. Plus, I'll hand it to the property for doing a nice job on the reno. The color choices and decor were well executed and a fresh update for folks wanting to be in the Galveston party scene. Drink prices are steep, but it's a resort and a pool bar, so that's to be expected. Will say that the sushi prices seemed to be surprising reasonable, although I can't speak to the quality. I opted for a chicken taco instead and holy mother, it was ah-mazing. WHAT a lovely surprise! All in all, would I recommend a 45 minute drive to Galveston JUST to play at H2O? Probably not. BUT, if you're in town and want to venture away from the beach, it's probably not the worst way you could spend an afternoon... read more

Beautiful pool. The swim up bar is great! It's heated as well so it's inviting to stay in for a long period of time at night. Can't wait to go back! Staff was super nice and got our wristbands for us so we didn't have to get out of the water. The grotto is cute if your wanting to tuck away from anyone else as well. I like this place. Sure, the drinks are expensive, but that is too be expected. Don't order a margarita! And you gotta look like you are staying at the hotel, or else they may not be too happy with you. Overall the bar staff is attentive, the water is nice, and the view is lovely. Finally got a chance to check this out on Labor Day weekend. The weather wasn't so great but we managed to have a nice time. Service was great but I thought their prices were a little high. First off, this place is gross. The only "eye candy" to be found is what appears to be what crawled out of a local trailer park. The crowd is far from upscale. It looked like these people just stumbled out of a taping of Jerry Springer. The music is bad top 40, there is not a live DJ and it there should be during the day. We ordered a wrap from the menu and it had way too much mayo and was falling apart. Not what I would consider 4 star fare. The water in the pool was so murky that you can't even see your feet which is pretty nasty. There is a very small swim up bar with limited seating. They do have cocktail waitresses but you have to flag them down, they are not very attentive. When I asked for a menu the waitress disappeared and when she came back she threw it at me. Then she never came back to take to my order, I had to order from the bar and the bar didn't want to take my order either. They have some LCD screens above the bar which you would think they would utilize by putting some cool videos to add to the ambiance or even show Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Miami with the swimsuit shows. But, instead they had it on the freakin' golf channel!!!!! Who wants to watch golf at the pool? Certainly not the tatted up, disheveled biker types that were hanging out in the pool. The drinks and food are overpriced for what you get and the staff and service needs some serious work. It was a bad experience all the way around. Spent the weekend with the wifey for Mardi Gras. After a long night spent the next day at the pool which was the happening place to be on the island. Great waitress service so you are never without a fresh drink because the swim up bar can get awfully crowded. Fresh beats being played by the DJ all day made it feel like a day pool party Vegas style. Did I mention the heated pool? Great time highly recommend spending the weekend there to get away and have a great time. Next time we plan to rent the cabanas hat are offered for the day. read more

I thought my friends and I were going to look BLINDINGLY glamorous swimdrinking at this very beautiful and popular vampire bar. When we arrived, we were promptly escorted back down the stairs and told that we weren't hot enough to join the undead orgy and sacrifice. So I must say that I am a HUGE fan of drinking in the pool, and this bar was awesome when it first opened. I have been here twice now, and the first time we went was amazing. The second time was only alright because now you need a wristband to drink in the pool. If you do not have a wristband, they will find you, and ask you to get out of the pool. Now you can only obtain a wristband by actually staying at the San Louis. My friends and I managed to avoid these people for a while, but it is annoying, especially when you pay so much for drinks in the first place. H2O bar is fun, expensive, and if you want to drink in the pool, you better find a wristband. Otherwise you will drink on the sidelines, and then, why not just stay in Houston? If anything, I wouldnt mind paying for a wristband. Maybe they could offer that? read more

I truly wish I could be posting a positive review. The pool and the entire pool area is awesome. It's very well maintained and we were definitely impressed by the aesthetic. The service however, what a bummer!!! The pool bar was not busy, at least not by my standards and I was a bartender for years. It really felt like amateur hour at the bar. Even another guest said to me, what does it take to get a drink at this place?! I wanted to place a food order and it seriously took at least if not more than 20 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge me. Unacceptable especially considering that the bar was practically empty. Then as if that wasn't enough, we waited forever for the chicken sliders and crab cakes. I'm talking like 45 minutes. We sat in our cabana for over an hour before any of the girls came around to take our order. We watched one girl in particular shoot the shit with what appeared to be her friends for an hour. It was SO bad that it was almost funny. My husband joked this morning that if we order our dinner now (9:30 AM) we might actually have it on time. The only reason why I am giving 2 stars is because the pool was really nice. I would highly recommend getting rid of the bartenders and hiring some people who actually want to make some money. H2O is a hidden gem. You wouldn't know about this place unless you stayed at the San Luis hotel that it's connected to or if someone introduced it to you. The martini's are amazin. The white chocolate is a fave of mine as well as the blue bikini, neither of those are on the menu but please ask and try one! The food is good but it doesn't come with much, just enough to cushion your drinks. Go for a swim while you're at it or lounge in one of the covered cabanas. In the cooler months and at night, they light the torches so enjoy the mood. The waitresses are cordail and sweet but if it's crowded expect t wait a little longer. read more

We spent 3 days at the San Luis resort over memorial day weekend and 2 of those days we were at the San Luis Pool / H20 Bar. I'd give it a toss up between 3 and 4 stars. There are a couple standout cocktail servers that definitely deserved 4, maybe 5 stars as individuals, but a few things keep from H20 4+ stars overall. First, their mixed drinks are inconsistent at best. While my wife and I were there there was young lady passing out samples of a mixed drink to promote the Deep Eddy brand of vodka. My wife loved it! So we ordered a full drink from our cocktail waitress next time she came by (it was a drink listed on their cocktail menu.) Well, the drink she received tasted nothing like the drink the Deep Eddy girl was passing out and my wife didn't love it. We wanted to send it back, but the server was MIA for a while, and while I continued to sample it to see what was wrong with it, I finally gave in and drank the whole thing (since I had run out of beer.) Their Margaritas (which should be considered a bar staple in Texas) were nothing to rave about. It appeared to have a light pour of Patron tequila...but rather than send it back, our friends ordered additional shots to add to their drinks to make up for it. A nice lady (a condo owner) heard us discussing it, and she went to get the bar manager for us, and he apologized and brought another shot, this time on the house. We didn't order any more margaritas. The pina coladas were pretty good, with a decent amount of Rum. We didn't try any other mixed drinks, and pretty much stuck with beer for me and champagne for my wife. The servers work their tails off. I don't think I ever saw them standing around like you sometimes just happen to notice when you're really wanting a drink. I don't know if they were understaffed or just backed up at the bar, but service did however seem pretty slow at times...but then sometimes it was over the top when you already had fresh drinks in your hands! Two girls are definite stand outs though: Roxy and Kara H. Both went above and beyond to help make sure my wife and I and our new acquaintances we met that day had cold drinks at all times! (Thank you both.) Over all, it was fun place to hang out with friends and/or your significant other. read more

My husband and 11 month old son drove in from Houston for Mother's Day and rented a cabana. Our experience was great because Camille (the pool concierge) was extremely helpful and accommodating to our needs. We had a minor hiccup with our cabana rental but she swooped in and saved the day! Stayed at the Resort for 2 nights so we frequented the H20 Bar. I had totally mixed experiences. The girls there late night were nice, they day time ones were super rude. I ordered 2 virgin Pina Coladas for my pregnant friends and they made them with alcohol. When I tried to get new ones they made me 2 orders then we're super sassy about it. Of course my bill was messed up later but that girl was very nice about it. Also, there are some very random smells... Some like tasty fried chicken but others of garbage. The cabanas are nice and the cabana servers were very helpful. read more

After paying $300 a night to stay at the San Luis where there is a nice pool, this place pretty much ruined it for us. The patrons are loud, drunk and obnoxious, and the music is blaring. Hope it closes and the management reconsiders their decision to turn what is supposed to be a family friendly pool into bar. read more

If I could give ZERO stars I would. Employees here could not be more rude! I ordered one drink on happy hour and then the next before happy hour ended and when my card was charged it was more than 3 times the happy hour price. When I told the bartender I didn't want the drink at that price he along with a short asain/mexican waitress ( with glasses and extremely long hair) without a name tag argued hotel policy with me about not accepting returned beverages! The bartender, the waitress and the manager/supervisor were all so extremely rude when I explained what happened. I work in the service industry and I know they could have easily made this a good experience for me as I was a guest and not in the wrong. All the while that same manager/supervisor openly discussed and accepted a guests offer to treat the manager and his family to something free if the manager provided free drinks!
