Plenty of seating mid-week....not certain about weekends tho.....

This review is for the pool which is AWESOME!! The most "resort-like" feel at a hotel in Galveston for sure! Towels provided, and get there early to get an umbrella. I was showing coworkers pictures of the pool and gulf and they thought I was in Mexico or the Caribbean! Drinks and food are WAY overpriced with lackluster/apathetic/slow service from what I observed, but If you're creative you can get around buying their drinks! (See McDonalds cup). You must be a hotel guest to use the pool, but I lucked out with an amazing mid-week rate on Priceline App, and they don't charge for parking if you self-park in the rear lot.

For my birthday, I decided to mix it up a little and celebrate in where else but a place that offers swimming, yummy food, dancing and lots of lots of drinks! This upscale renovated pool and bar is located smack dab in the front of the San Luis Resort. This pool and bar concept has finally hit Galveston after being popular in other cities such as Miami and Vegas. This place is very posh with cabanas filled with LCD TVs, couches and your own bottle of bubbly. They have the oh so cool lounging pool side beds and plenty of lounge chairs around. The bar is conveniently located in the pool, so a swim up bar always gets a thumbs up in my book! The bartenders here are really nice, but that comes with the sticker tag because drinks here are expensive. They even have a sushi bar, which you can eat by the pool! Awesome! They usually have a DJ at night, but the night of my birthday celebration there was no DJ to be found. Oh well. This place is definitely a unique way to throw down a couple of drinks with cool people or to celebrate a birthday lounging in a cabana sipping on a frosty pina colada. They are even open till 2 in the morning on the weekends. There are usually more people during the day (early afternoon), so there will be plenty of eye candy to be found. Overall I will definitely be heading back here for some fun in the sun.

Beautiful pool. The swim up bar is great! It's heated as well so it's inviting to stay in for a long period of time at night. Can't wait to go back! Staff was super nice and got our wristbands for us so we didn't have to get out of the water. The grotto is cute if your wanting to tuck away from anyone else as well. I will have to rent a cabana next time!! So beautiful!

This place I would not recommend the drinks are over priced for a small solo cup. The service was not good.

Great waitress service so you are never without a fresh drink because the swim up bar can get awfully crowded.

I have stayed in nicer hotels in Mexico. Also, when we tried getting someone to wait on us at the pool and the Blake Restaurant, they basically ignored us until we said something. He was a great part of my morning routine while staying at the San Luis for a conference recently. The hotel itself was definitely a resort - 5 star looking amenities, a gorgeous pool with a swim up bar, extravagant looking restaurants and beautiful decor. While here for a conference many people received their room keys as wristbands, but I was given the option to have a regular room key. The front desk guys were very nice though and were a great first impression. Our conference arranged to have a shuttle system at the hotel which was great. My bed was comfortable, the view was great and I felt very safe here! My time here was great - I'd definitely recommend!

I unfortunately cannot recommend The San Luis Resort for overnight stays prior to a cruise. While…read morethe rooms themselves were nice and had great views, our experience overall did not meet expectations given the price. During our stay, we encountered several issues. We had requested that our luggage be divided between two rooms, but all items were delivered to one room, and we needed to move them ourselves to another floor. At check-in, we were informed that a discounted rate could not be applied to one of the rooms due to hotel policy, despite the occupant qualifying. We were also charged a resort fee that included access to amenities such as the outdoor pool and lounge area, which were not available during our stay due to a private event, as well as Wi-Fi service that we experienced as intermittent. We requested a pack-and-play at check-in, but it was not delivered until several hours later and only after a follow-up call. Food pricing was also higher than expected. For example, we were charged $10 for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with fries for a child, which felt high for what was provided. At checkout, while managing luggage with toddlers and a disabled member of our party, we did not receive assistance from staff in transporting bags to the shuttle area. We had confirmed a cruise shuttle pickup time of 11:25 am at both check-in and check-out; however, by 11:45 am the shuttle had still not arrived, and it did not show up until closer to 12:00 pm despite multiple calls to the front desk. Finally, we were told that a manager would follow up regarding these concerns, but we did not receive a call. Given this experience, I also informed our travel agent so they are aware when making future recommendations. Based on our experience, we would choose to stay elsewhere in the future.
