By Golly's used to be the place where you left wondering if you'd just pulled off a heist...huge portions, real flavor, actual value. Now it feels like the new management has flipped the model to: charge more, deliver less, hope nobody notices. We noticed. Prices are premium, but the experience is bargain-bin. One overworked employee juggling the entire floor on a half-full Sunday isn't service...it's triage. And the food? Bacon so undercooked it practically squeals, burgers and buns burnt like they lost a bet, and somewhere under the carbon you can taste what used to be a pretty good patty. If you eat in, they have those fancy new platters for improved presentation...I'd rather have good food than a sexy plate. The milkshake is the real magic trick...almost $7 for a "large" that's one-third whipped cream, two-thirds regret (looked like 8-10 ounces of shake). Across the street, you get about 3X more, better, faster, and cheaper. That's not competition...that's a tutorial. To-go order? No napkins, no utensils. Fast food places get that right...and for a third of the price. But hey, nice paper boxes. Really elevates the disappointment. At this point, it's not a restaurant with a bar...it's a bar where food is an afterthought. Fancier plates, sure, but that's lipstick on a burger that used to matter. They might be making money for now, (although I've not seen the Milford parking lot packed since the old management) but this is how places lose the room...families fade out, regulars disappear (except for the bargain beer drinkers...heck I may come for $3 Miller Lites in March, but I'll eat elsewhere), and suddenly "pretty good" becomes "why are we here?" I wondered by their reviews have tanked. It didn't used to be like this. That's a problem...and yet with all the locations it's as if they think they're worthy of franchising. I could go to a big chain, buy a much better couple of burgers, fries and a shake and afford new platters and still get a better meal and reusable utensils and plates, for much less. I give em 2 years. What private equity firm would even look at such a mediocre product. I used to be one of their biggest fans. :-( In accordance with Yelp standards, no specific competitors were mentioned in this review. Only the general state of the competitive market.

A Very Disappointing Experience at By Golly's Bar & Grill in Milford…read more I had a very disappointing dining experience at By Golly's Bar & Grill in Milford. After we ordered our drinks and spent about 25 minutes looking over the menu, we were finally informed that the restaurant was out of French fries, chicken tenders, and several other sides and menu items. By that point, we had already been waiting and were disappointed to learn how limited the menu actually was. We ended up ordering hamburgers, which unfortunately were overcooked, and there were very few options available to accompany them. My biggest frustration was that we were not informed about the extensive shortages until well after we had been seated, ordered drinks, and spent considerable time reviewing the menu. In my opinion, customers should be made aware of major menu shortages when they are seated or given the menu, rather than discovering them after ordering. I hope the owner and management take this feedback seriously. A simple notice at the entrance or a clear explanation when customers are seated would have saved us a lot of time and frustration. Based on this experience, I won't be returning. I hope the restaurant can address these issues so future customers have a better experience.

Not complaining and definitely an added bonus to come back. Lots of pictures showed the mozz sticks (and says homemade) but honestly, tasted like frozen sticks and the marinara tasted burnt. Again, I think of Arthur's in Hyde park when I think of homemade mozz sticks and these weren't those. But.... Let's get to main items. The $3/rib were legit. Little Smokey with the charred grill taste. Little salty, little peppery. Perfect. Bonus, their bbq sauce on the side is awesome. Definitely would come back just for the ribs and draft beer. Next, the wings. They are HUGE. Like one single is equal to 3-4 BW wings. Again...a little Smokey but solid charcoal grill taste. U can smell the charcoal grill from the wings. Bonus is the sauces. Everything comes in a 6pack of squeeze bottles. So choose your own adventure! Oh. They have a REAL dart board, pool table, golden tee and TVs covering every inch of wall save place outside area to sit. #hiddengem. Cannot wait to go back!!!

I am not so happy with my experience today and I was definitely looking forward to coming here…read more I ordered 8 traditional wings, and 8 bonus with two different sauces. The first time the order came out the sauce for the boneless wings was on the traditional wings and vice versa. Then after 15-20 mins the order came out wrong again so I had to send my food back. There was no I'm sorry your order was made wrong/ keep these while we work on your order or compensation for the fact it took 2 times for my order to get sent back to come out correctly the 3rd time. Each time the bartender kept asking me (with an attitude) what was made verse what should have been made. I don't know anymore shoot all I'm trying to figure out is why I don't have 8 Caribbean jerk wings in my face right now. When I first ordered the food it was only 3 other people there with me so I'm not sure why the order kept being messed up and why it took so long to get the food. After the 2nd send back it was maybe a total of 10 people there and I seen a few people send food back to the kitchen. Unfortunately I think I will have to take another break from visiting this restaurant.

If you're looking for a great non pretentious burger, the Mound is where you should be. Friday nights, they have fish, not just during Lent, and some of the best gumbo in town. Get there early to make sure it doesn't sell out. Did I mention the wings? Forget those corporate places. The Mound has the best in town. While it is a bar and grill, it truly is a family place, too. When you go, order the burger of the month with onion rings and chili or the soup of the day with an ice-cold draft. Tell them Eric & Stephanie sent you. They'll get a good laugh.

I always have some sauce left over on the bottom of the tray. Not an over powering amount but just enough. The flavors are just out of this world. I get Hot Buffalo and Teriyaki. The Teriyaki is incredibly sweet, and the Hot Buffalo is the perfect combination of both. The Wings: Uniform in size. Nothing too big or too little. Easy to cut with a fork. Perhaps more breading on the outer layer but doesn't bother me. They hire high schoolers to cook these in the back so they don't always get the temperature right but rarely an occurrence for me. The Ranch: a great compliment, it's not wing stop ranch but it's damn close. The Waffle Fries & Cheese: pretty unique combo. I love the idea of using waffle fries instead of your standard French fry. Unfortunately the cheese hardens up and doesn't fill up a full layer on top, for both reasons I would stick to a standard size of these instead of a basket of them. Plenty of excellent beers on tap. Inside is a great atmosphere and surround sound is some of the best I've heard in a sports bar. The patio area is pretty underwhelming. The TVs are all on one half of the room so depending on your seating you may be turn around the whole game. Otherwise there isn't anything they can do about it.
