This is hands down my favorite food truck I have ever been to. Their service is amazing. Their ambience is a food truck court yard, but I'm all about that! I can't wait until I go to Astoria again and I will likely drive out there soon just to get some of their amazing food. I drove past too many times initially, but my time in England told me that a pasty is not something to pass up lightly when done well. And they exceeded anything I tried and was fond of in England by far. The first time I came here, I ordered for myself... then I ordered one of everything on their menu so I could drive it back to my family in Vancouver. My wife and I came down to Astoria to visit for the weekend from Olympia Washington, my family is Cornish, so I have grown up eating pasties, my family can never know I said this, the Uncle oogie with the roast beef gravy is fantastic!! We tried 3 varieties Uncle Oggie, Slater and Tail Gater, Pipeiline and Stampmill Gravy and I forget the name of the other one. We were so impressed with this business! I thought I remembered how mind-glowingly good this food truck was, but I had forgotten that their hand pies and sweet pastries are the actual long-lost cure for whatever ails your heart. Blame it on said heart: The first time I tasted Bucket Bites, I was in the glow of new love and on the hunt for a cinnamon roll. I ordered an apple dumpling instead, which I shared with my very special travel buddy on the river walk. It had the perfect amount of cinnamon spice, and was as gooey as the sweet couple who run the truck and had shared with us their love of British-style "pasties." The next morning, we tucked into the savory pies and when I tell you this was the first time in my life my 96 percent plant-based heart exploded over gravy, I am using the appropriate verb. The flavors were perfect, but even better was the mix of textures. These people know their way around a pie crust -- how to make sure the inside is just chewy enough while the outside holds a perfect firm crust with the exact right amount of flake. When I went back today, my heart was a lot heavier. That relationship had ended with spectacular sadness. Here I was on another road trip with a different lover, a little weary from the logistical challenges of travel and wary of what the future holds upon our return. It was one of those days when you go looking for familiar nourishing foods to get you through a difficult feeling, but you're so -- well, whatever the depressed version of "hangry" is for to be excited about ordering anything, so I reluctantly picked up a blackberry galette, certain I wouldn't feel anything but pretty sure we would both need a pick-me-up on the journey home. Then I made a fatal mistake: I tasted it. And I remembered. The burst of a giant juicy blackberry on my tongue, in its own syrup; that same chewy, flaky crust baked to perfection; the evident quality in every ingredient, down to the satisfyingly crunchy sugar crystals around the edge. Very high recommendation. Fantastic pasties (meat pies you can hold as you eat). Some menu items are always there like my fave the savory "Uncle Oogie" with roast beef and potatoes, or the "Slater" with beef and pork, potatoes, bacon, and cheddar jack. There's always a savory vegetarian pastie, too. Menu changes daily, so you can mix it up and enjoy different flavors. You can also add sides and gravies if you want, but the pasties themselves are exceptional on their own. Each pastie is spiced in unique ways that really make the flavors pop, and it's really pleasing to hold the warm pie in your hand while you eat it. On the sweet side, there's always a sweet pastie (like the recent offerings blueberry with lemon glaze or mango/peach with Irish cream glaze, both are top-notch) based on the season, and a killer Apple Dumpling that's always available. I've had them all, and they're delightful. The dough, the fresh ingredients, and the warmth of the proprietors really shines here. The prices are good, too. Going through Astoria, I'll always stop at this food truck, and sometimes it's worth a special trip just to get some! Check their Facebook or Instagram to find daily offerings. When they sell out, they're done for the day. Look for the black and white "Pasties" wagon on the right side of the road when you're headed south on Highway 101, just south of the Astoria bridge. We stopped on the way out of town and I'm SO GLAD. We bought two Uncle Oggie pasties, one strawberry rhubarb hand pie, one whoopie pie, and two CC puffs (cinnamon sugar muffin-like things) and every speck of this food is delicious. Since we are driving I didn't get the gravy, and even though the pastie was amazing and moist even without it, I really wish I had!! It sounded so good. The pastry on the Uncle Oggie is strong (as in it held together) but soft and flavorful, and the filling is chunks of juicy meat and potatoes with lovely seasoning. Super nice lady running the cart, super nice guy who ran the food out to us. A must when we go to Astoria from now on, oh my goodness. read more

Gorgeous AND delicious pasties. You must try them. If your choose roast or ground beef, you must also choose the gravy made with red wine and bone broth. My husband grew up eating pasties in Scotland, and I ate them while visiting my father in Butte years ago. Both of us thought the quality was excellent. Owners are super friendly and knowledgeable, their crust is tender and delicious, and they offer dog treats...which got a very high rating when dipped in the aforementioned gravy! read more
