I like this place because it's a family-owned restaurant. Nothing magical, but nice people serving decent food.

We went for breakfast before the Arboretum opened. The place is so cute and homey. The server was very nice and attentive as she was the only one covering all the tables. They were busy, but she was on top of it. She brought our coffee out very fast and it was good and fresh! I had the ham omelet with hash browns and sourdough toast. My husband got the breakfast burrito. Both were delicious. I liked the way the ham was cooked into the egg whites, the cheese was folded into the middle. Cooked to perfection and very tasty. My husband loved the breakfast burrito and it was so big he couldn't finish. I was too hungry and dug right in before I could get a picture, but it was so good. Afterwards, we looked at the World's Smallest Museum. Very cute and some really great memorabilia and blasts from past. We will definitely stop in, next time we're in town. read more

The place looked interesting from the outside. Inside however could use a makeover. The service was slow despite it not being busy with 2 other tables. The food was average. They are open limited hours for breakfast and lunch. The "world's smallest museum" always looks closed. Better choices in Superior are Porter's or Bella's in my opinion for better service, ambience and food quality. read more

Went in for breakfast with my granddaughter and ordered the kids pancakes and egg. I got the potatoes and gravy with an egg. Service was ok but the bill was $37 for those items! She did not let me see the bill first then charged me a 50 cent surcharge on the kids meal which comes with an egg! Then my surcharge for my one egg was $5.50!! Wow! I know eggs went up but a surcharge of $5.50 come on man. Then she tried to say the charge went in as cash and wanted to charge me again. I said no because the bill had my credit card on it. We had a great breakfast here while staying in Superior, AZ. The service friendly and attentive, food delicious and reasonably priced, menu selection good and resturant clean and nice. They even have a tiny museum outside on the premises. Will definately return next time we visit the area. read more

This was a fun stop family owned and operated. Great people. Many of them are bilingual. Spanish and English at least. We stopped after hiking. She said lots of people do. Not an extensive menu. But kind of unique. Mostly focused on breakfast foods. Even the bacon cheeseburger omelet. The food was good. Comes out piping hot. Cuz there is one guy back there cooking and it comes out immediately after completion. Staff are friendly and attentive. The waitress talked to us some about the people who hike this area. They actually have 2 "trail angels" that live nearby. And she has called them for people before. She said a lot of hikers will spend 6 or more hours here resting. She is so kind. This morning after our stay in Superior, we went to the Buckboard City Cafe for breakfast. My wife had the two eggs with bacon and I had a half order of biscuits and gravy with two scrambled eggs. I had read reviews about the super tasty gravy. The quality of their gravy was right on. We shared a cinnamon bun for our breakfast dessert. It was good, but I have had better. Stopped in for lunch while we were on a motorcycle ride. Cute place, but the SLOWEST service I've ever seen. We sat for 10 minutes before the waitress even acknowledged us, and that was only because I asked for a menu. We ordered a couple cheeseburgers which took a half hour to arrive. My boyfriend and I were staying in Superior for a music festival nearby, decided to check Buckboard out for breakfast our first morning in town. So glad we did, our waitress, Rachel, was so sweet and attentive and the food was fantastic! I got the huevos rancheros, my boyfriend got the chicken fried steak. Of course had to get the famous cinnamon roll! Everything was delicious and the owner, John, came out and chatted with us about the town and the history here and also made us a great Bloody Mary! So good, we came back today on our second morning in town! Can't wait to try the breakfast burritos we ordered! I got the taco burrito and my boyfriend got the spicy everything! First of all this place provides the best service with amazing food. I highly recommend the chicken fried steak along with their amazing Cinnamon roll. Currently from out of town and definitely needed to stop here again and end up getting the spicy everything burrito the following day that completely knocks it out if the park. A special 5-stars goes out to John and his signature Bloody Mary. Our waitress couldn't be even more of a sweetheart and helpful. read more

We made our first visit here after a lovely time at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum 3 miles west of Superior. There are some negative reviews from many years ago, but I've got to tell you this will be our go-to whenever we're within range. The menu is pretty standard fare (not what's currently posted here (Feb 24), with excellent burgers and frys, but I opted for the Tortilla soup as a side. It was breathtakingly delicious! The chef offered hot sauce (his own creation) and a bit of lime to go with it. Offered every day and made fresh twice a week, loaded with vegetables and chicken. I may not bother with the burger next time. Closed Monday and Tuesday, open 7-2. read more

This place is a nice cafe style place. Had the hamburger steak breakfast.. Everything on the plate was Luke warm to cold. Even though the eggs and hash browns were cold they where actually good. Wonder what they would taste like hot. The Hamburger steak was a flipping joke!! Maybe it was 1/8 inch thick. I'm probably being generous. The patty was like a McDonald's hamburger. The waitress wasn't very interested in doing her job. She wasn't rude but very disinterested in her job. The food was bland. I ordered the "spicy" everything burrito, it wasn't spicy, it was bland. The salsa they have is was old, as was the sour cream. Prices are high for what you get. read more

We headed out to Boyce Thompson Arboretum over the weekend to spend some time outside and enjoying the weather. The arboretum is close to the town of Superior so we thought we would hit up a local restaurant while in the area. The options were somewhat limited for a couple of reasons, it was Sunday and Superior is not a large town. We chose to go to the Buckboard for lunch as it was open and was not super crowded. Service - The hostess/waitress was very nice, super attentive and fun. Her daughter happened to be working that day and she was great as well. The service we received was very good. Atmosphere - As you walk in you see your standard small townish diner. Many tables set up and decor on the walls related to the area. I had a feeling things had not been updated for a little while, and while I am cool with rustic and antique this seemed a bit different than that. Value - When you sit down you are presented with chips and salsa on the house. This was a good touch, the chips were fine and the salsa was not bad. Our whole party of four ordered the exact same thing for lunch....the BBQ chicken plate. This consisted of boneless, skinless chicken breast, and fries. When it arrived the chicken breast was huge, that was a plus, however, it was covered in far too much BBQ sauce for my taste, it almost seemed like they were using the sauce to make up for something with the chicken, it turned out they likely were. The chicken was overcooked, it was dry...very dry...and somewhat stringy due to this. Trying to cut the chicken breast was a bit of a challenge with the table knives we had. The fries were okay, not great. Overall the value was not there for me. I would have liked to have more juicy chicken, less BBQ sauce and maybe some seasoning on the chicken so the BBQ would not be needed so much. Location - Located off of Hwy 60 just outside of the town of Superior. They are hard to miss....big sign right outside. Rating - I am going to use a rating of 1 to 5 covered wagons in honor of the name - Buckboard. I will give them 3 covered wagons. There is potential and the people are very nice, the food execution was not great. Typically I have photos for my food, but in this circumstance, I was not able to snap one. read more

My coworker and I had lunch at the Buckboard Cafe. Upon entering, we were impressed by the cute decor (see photos). It is very clean and cute. The service is friendly and prompt. I tried going here for a late dinner on a recent Saturday night because the hours were listed as being open until 2:00 AM. Turns out that was a typo and their menu actually states that they close at 2 PM. Moral is it never hurts to call ahead. (I've asked Yelp to make the correction) So, undaunted, we tried again the next morning for breakfast. Actually, we were on our way to an event and only wanted something light. That's a shame because they have a very complete breakfast menu at reasonable prices. The only two other reviews raved about the cinnamon roll so we had to try it. Yes, by comparison it's a little pricey but there are two things you should know ... they bake it fresh on site and it is HUGE. Oh, and it comes with a ton of butter. The roll was so big we actually split it and ordered a couple of sides of bacon and sausage. It was an excellent choice. The coffee is quite good as well. The restaurant is clean, relatively large and very busy. The servers are friendly and efficient and the service is fast. Lots of parking too. This is on my list now as a go-to place for breakfast. They also serve lunch but not dinner. read more

There's easy parking in a dirt lot out front. The building is 'old fashioned western" styled outside, but inside it's very clean and airy with nice seating and good views out of a window to the back. Folks don't normally go all the way out to Superior just for breakfast. One more reason that I'm not normal. I love the Buckboard Cafe. We come sporadically. The restaurant also has the World's Smallest Museum on the side of the building. Not super maintained or exciting, but that's a review for a different time. The restaurant is busier during snowbird season, with all the travelers. Thankfully, when Mr. P took me for Step-mother's day, we were it in there for the first 30 minutes or so, and then folks slowly trickled in. The interior is clean and countrified. Minimal decor and basic tables and chairs. The server was relatively new, and was a huge Eeyore the whole time. Refills? Sure, but she'll forget. Splenda, be right back. She'll forget that too. But I know how miffed she is to be working today, and how off-season she should only have to work 3 days. I digress. I had a pancake combo. Scrambled eggs, bacon, and a pancake. The cake was perfect in the middle, but a tad rubbery around the edges. Mr. P had the corner beef hash and enjoyed it. The coffee was mediocre. I had hot tea, but couldn't get more hot water to enjoy a second cup. This place is usually super consistent, with everything on the menu done well. This visit missed the mark a bit, but we will still go for the drive every now and then for breakfast. read more

Best breakfast hands down! I really enjoy Huevos Rancheros and have tried it at other restaurants in area of Mesa & Apache Junction, and none come close to this dish here!!! Hubby likes their omelettes a lot. We always clean our plates. Decor is rustic hodge podge, kind of hokey, but we don't come for the decor, we come for the food. Waitress/hostess is always pleasant and attentive. There are tables lined up by the windows that overlook a large tree with bird feeders.
