Like everyone else that loves Bucharest, I was thrilled when I found out there's one right by me that delivers via door dash! Yes, it is life changing moment for some of us, but the honeymoon phase is over and the cracks in our Bucharest relationship are starting to show. To mend my tastebud wounds, I hope Bucharest will look at opportunities to improve the quality of some ingredients and create consistent 5 star product. Shawarmas are always....mostly always....on point. Stuffed with meat and garlic goodness from top to bottom it's simply a masterpiece. Bucharest shawarma is their signature item and my personal go-to. Get one every time as well as a lamb or beef shawarma for added variety and to snack on later. Bucharest's garlic spread is usually pretty strong which I don't mind, but there was an order within the last month where they went little over heavy on the garlic as the spread was much more powerful than usual. The taste of garlic went from savory to overwhelming and the garlic aroma/taste singed like warm shot of fireball, not in a good way. The vegetables for their salad needs to be cut up a lot better. The cucumbers, tomatoes, and green peppers were like GIANT chunks. Each piece of vegetable took up almost all the real estate in my mouth and I felt like I was taking bites right out of a cucumbers & green peppers. Need bite size vegetables: thinner and smaller cucumbers, smaller green peppers, tomatoes are ok because they bleed too much. I know it's just a one-off issue but I had a tomato that tasted rancid today. Can't fully complain because it looked perfectly red and normal. We tried this location last night for dinner and the food was delicious. We went to one of their locations in Detroit a couple years ago because we heard they had "the best shawarma in Detroit," and that was proven true based on our experience. This location in Royal Oak definitely upheld their reputation because the Bucharest shawarma sandwich that I had last night was outstanding. It cost $5.95 and it came with plenty of fresh ingredients-cabbage, tomato, fries, pickles, & garlic spread and it was bursting with deliciously marinated chicken. We purchased two orders of curly fries and those were delicious as well. My wife enjoyed her chicken shawarma sandwich, but it wasn't the best that she has ever had. Your best bet is to just stick with the Bucharest shawarma sandwich. We got cheese quesadillas for our kids and I thought they were good, but the combination of feta, asiago & Muenster cheeses weren't a good fit for children. They had a nice crust on the pita bread and there was plenty of flavor for my liking. We picked up our carry out order around 5:30 PM and it was ready when we arrived. I tried Bucharest for the very first time about a week after this location opened. We had family in town and didn't feel like cooking, so we decided to try it out. We ordered 3 shawarmas (1 chicken, 1 beef, 1 lamb), 3 shawarma sticks (1 chicken, 1 beef, 1 lamb), 4 sides of hummus, 2 orders of pita, and a fattoush salad. The shawarmas were so delicious and had a generous serving of meat in them. The shawarma sticks were also good and again had a good serving of meat in them. They were basically like a shawarma but just without lettuce. The fattoush salad was nothing special at all, it was kind of a waste and I wouldn't order it again. The sides of pita came with 2 whole pieces of pita each, and their hummus was great. Less than a week later I got takeout again for dinner and got all sticks, and fries. The fries were great and a good portion size. I also got a side of garlic sauce because it is super cheap and delicious! My only complaint is both times I have ordered pickup from them, they have mislabeled my items. The first time I ordered, every single shawarma was mislabeled. We could obviously tell which was the chicken, but had a hard time telling the beef apart from the lamb (the lamb is MUCH tastier!). The second time, I asked for no tomatoes on one of the sticks. It was not labeled, so I had to unwrap each stick, and surprise surprise, each one had tomatoes on it. Both times, I placed my orders via their app and picked up in store. The first time I did not have to wait and just grabbed it. The second time I had to wait about 5 minutes for my fries, but it wasn't bad. I am a big Bucharest fan so I was super happy to hear about this location as it is 5 minutes from my house. Our first order was a Door Dash delivery. My wife had the Bucharest Shawarma and and I had the lamb shawarma. Both were very good. We shared a hummus and it too was very good. They also have great salads. Unfortunately, the one we ordered wasn't in the bag. Going to chalk it off as early mismanagement. We will be ordering more here so I will update as we go.
