What's the wurst that could happen? Well if the toddler doesn't approve, I suppose he might throw the meat on the floor. Oh wait... he's going to do that no matter what. Regardless of whether it ends up on the floor or not, I know I will find some of the best quality of meat you can get in Red Wing at Meatheads. In need of a raw meat treat? Friendly staff and butchers are on hand to help you choose between peppered tenderloin steaks, sirloin, pot roast, bbq ribs, bacon, sausage (cheese-stuffed, andouii, and more) or stuffed pork chops. Fire up the grill! Here's the scoop from the coop: The butcher's counter also boasts huge chicken breasts in several varieties, listed in pecking order starting with my fav: tortilla with pepperjack cheese, parmesan crusted, pecan crusted, and Cordon Bleu. Mercury levels getting low? Holy shrimp, you should see their frozen section--scallops, salmon (farmed, unfortunately), sun fish, tilapia, halibut, lobster tails, and JUMBO JUMBO JUMBO shrimp abound. You won't be disappointed, but your wallet might. This is Minnesota, so you're going to need some potatoes with all that protein! Ask if they have any garlic mashed potatoes available. They are smooth, creamy, and spiked with the perfect amount of garlic. But don't count your chickens before they hatch! These 'tatoes are a big hit, and the store runs out of them at times. And don't neglect your dessert stomach! Your dinner mates will break out in udder chaos if you don't bring back some Raspberry Fudge Torte Bridgeman's Ice Cream or some Sweet Martha's Gourmet Chocolate Chip cookie dough. *chmpgrlfzpfymmm* (that's me eating the cookie dough raw). For the lunch crowd there is limited seating, and daily sandwich and sub specials (try the wild meatball sub). There's also more deli meat and sausage material than even Grampa Gustafson could make graphic verbal use of in "Grumpier Old Men." Hunters will be delighted and "amoosed" to know that Meatheads also provides game and venison processing. Need some frozen hot dishes or soups to bring with on your hunting expeditions out west or to pass out at noon during deer hunting season? Meatheads has tater tot hotdish, wild rice soup, and chili hearty enough to recharge your hunting party. I would suggest not going hog wild with how often you visit this butcher as you will have to empty your nest egg and piggy bank to afford it. You might even look at your receipt and say to yourself, "This scampi happening!" You'll get more cluck for your buck at one of the local grocery stores, but the quality of the meat at Meatheads is worth the stop now and then. Several in town wrap there chicken with bacon and it's a good pound or two of chicken, but the outside wrap and inside stuffing leaves a lot to be desired. These are fully wrapped and bursting with fresh, gourmet ingredients. Personally I love the family tips from the elder woman in the back, the kindness of the owner or manager (not sure?) helping seniors by walking the groceries around the counter and neatly handing back change, and the atmosphere of a small business.
