Depends entirely on who you get.
I'm sure people say that about lots of salons, but at $12 a pop, this seems like the first stop out of beauty school for a lot of stylists.
Pluses - they do walk ins, which are almost always available. and yes, it's 12 bucks.
Minuses - they never do a full job of washing my hair. I have long thick hair and they always miss the back near my neck.
Middlin' - My first cut here was atrocious. I decided to give another go, and got Frankie, who actually talked me into a different style and it came out amazing. Went to her a few more times and she is consistently great.
Just got home from here and had the WORST cut of my life by a woman named Tram. First bad sign should have been that she brushed my wet hair instead of combed it. Big NONO!
Not only was she the only stylist in the packed place not bothering at any convo with me (which I actually appreciate I hate the idle chit chat of hair cutters, but others might like it) but she first did my fringe half an inch too long. I dried it to see if it would pop up any but it didn't.
She was already into her next wash but had that client wait while she took the scissors to my now dry hair (any stylist worth their salt would never do this) and took the scissors in a straight line across my forehead.
Feeling uncomfortable at this point for keeping someone else waiting, I went home.
When I had the time to examine the cut in my own mirror, I saw that it was totally unsymmetrical.
I don't have a difficult cut, it's long hair with bangs, with a bit of face framing layers down the front.
She cut virtually no layers in the rest of it so it falls at boring and dull as Carole Kings hair in the back, and there isn't a single cut on one side that matches other. There was a huge chunk of my bangs that was so dramatically out of whack I actually had to go back to her chair for a third time.
I was upset to find that Frankie was in the reception seat and in spite of the salon being virtually empty, she had me wait 20 minutes to go back to Tram (who was now only one of 2 people cutting) rather than even bother to apologize and offer to have someone else (like herself sitting there doing nothing) fix it.
Tram asked me what was wrong. I showed her. She still didn't see it. After 20 minutes of trying to show her, and having her continue to totally screw it up (how hard are bangs, seriously??) I gave up.
She kept asking me if I thought it was even. I kept showing her, no, all you have to do is look at it.
If she needed me to explain rather than see it for herself, all hope was lost.
An hour and half later, I am home in tears, with a haircut that has compelled me to write my first salon review ever.
Yes, you get what you pay for. The only reason I am giving this place 2 stars is because I had one good stylist out of 3.
My recommendation: Ask a friend who has been here and is happy who they go to, and/or look for a stylist who's hair style you like. And stay away from Tram. read more
